Marine South – Quantico Tactical / Vortex Optics

April 11th, 2016

Another interesting item I saw in the Quantico Tactical booth was this scope cap insert from Vortex Optics. These Dope Disks were announced awhile ago but I hadn’t seen any in the wild. They are designed to fit into the Vortex Defender Flip Caps which are offered in 44mm, 50mm and 56mm so they will fit a wide variety of optics. The Defender Flip Caps have two stop positions; 45 and 90 degrees. What’s really cool is that the removable Dope Disks can be custom ordered for different ammunition.

This and other weapon accessories are available via Quantico Tactical.

Marine South – Streamlight TLR-6

April 11th, 2016

Streamlight’s TLR-6 is designed specifically for use with subcompact semiauto pistols such as the Glock 26, 27, 33, 42, 43; M&P Shield 9 amd 40; Kimber Micro; SIG P238 and P938 as well as the wide variety of Kahr subcompact pistols. The way they do this is through a variety of housings that use the same light/laser module.  As you can see, the idea was to conform to these smaller frames as much as possible by connecting to the trigger guard.

The activation button of the 100 lumen pistol light is on either side of the TLR-6 and could be a reach for those with short fingers. To change modes from light to laser, you must push both buttons at once. However, the two 3v CR-1/3N lithium batteries provide one hour of dual 100 lumen light and laser mode. They can be swapped out without removing the light from the pistol. It is IPX4 water resistant to 1 meter.

Marine South – Darley Offers HSP D3CR Rig and Mission Spec Rigit

April 11th, 2016

Darley Defense is a contract holder for the Defense Logistics Agency’s Special Operations Tailored Logistics Program. TLS offers government organizations, including military units, to purchase commercial Organizational Clothing and Individual Equipment via interagency funding transfer mechanisms. The various companies on TLS are under contract to DLA and the customer buys the items from DLA. As far as the unit is concerned, they are buying from the supply system but getting the latest and greatest from industry.

One of the items I noticed Darley had available was the Disruptive Environments Chest Rig from Haley Strategic Partners. This rig was designed for HSP by Darin Talbot aka Eggroll, and is quite popular. It’s adaptive to different loads and is Berry compliant. The D3CR can be worn via its H-harness or, using SwiftClips attached directly to an armor vest.

The D3CR will accept AR type magazines as well as AK 7.62 x39mm and 5.45 x 39 magazines. The Multi-Mission Pouches accept 1911, Glock, Sig, M&P, XD and other standard double or single stack pistol magazines, as well as many handheld lights and multi-tools.  There are also two flapped GP pouches in either side but something you won’t see on any other chest rigs out there is the STUFFIT pouch which accepts a wide variety of odd-sized loads.

They’ve paired it with the Rigit from Mission Spec, a PALS adapter for armor carriers which offers SwiftClip QD mount points for rigs like the D3CR and others such as those offered by Mayflower.

This video gives you an idea of how the Rigit works.

While I know units have ordered a lot of different items over the years, this one hadn’t crossed my mind as something a unit might purchase via TLS. It serves as a great example and just goes to show how responsive TLS to the needs of its customers.

Programs Director

Tom Austin’s passion for the outdoors runs deep. His father, an avid outdoorsman, instilled the love of hunting, fishing, camping and sport shooting in Tom at an early age. His childhood was filled with high adventure. Barely a day passed by when Tom didn’t have a fishing rod or firearm in his hands enjoying Gods creations with friends and family.

In his early twenties, Tom entered the Utah State Peace Officers and Training program, graduating with honors, producing a perfect score at every pistol qualification earning him the award of Top Shot at the academy.

Upon graduating, Tom was quickly recruited as a Police Officer where he served the citizens proudly as he climbed the chain of command from patrol to investigations. There he was assigned to operate as an Under-Cover Agent of an elite unit of the department known as the Narcotics Strikeforce. The unit trained for and performed high-risk operations and no-knock warrants with the SWAT Team, FBI, ATF, ICE, and DEA. During his tenure as a Police Officer, he received several Mayor’s Awards, a Distinguished Unit award for outstanding teamwork in hostile situations, two Life Saving awards, and the rank of Expert Marksman. He’s certified in several NRA disciplines and enjoys sharing his knowledge and experiences about firearms and his love for the second amendment.

After nearly a decade, Tom resigned from the police force to pursue his dream as a Professional Hunter. His goal was to not only do things differently, but to up-the-ante by guiding hunters that wanted the ultimate challenge coupled with the ultimate thrill. Nothing is more exciting or daunting than hunting another hunter. As a result, Tom opened his “predators only” guide service aptly called Predator Strikeforce. He literally hunts predators from Canada to Mexico and every hilltop and valley floor in between. As an added challenge, Tom films the hunt for his clients using broadcast quality equipment giving the hunter an opportunity to relive the hunt though the footage he captures. His footage has been seen on The Outdoor Channel, Sportsman’s Channel, Weather Channel, and Wild TV.

When Tom isn’t traveling the country for Predator Strikeforce, he is writing editorials for Predator Xtreme magazine, Outdoor Life, AR Guns & Hunting, Trapper & Predator Caller, Petersen’s Hunting and Hunting Illustrated just to name a few. He’s been awarded “writer of the year” and “column of the year” for three consecutive years. He serves as Pro Staff and Field Staff for several cutting edge companies in the outdoor industry where he conducts predator hunting seminars and serves as a guest lecturer for hunting events around the globe.

For Tom, hunting, firearms and the outdoors aren’t just an obsession, but a way of life.

April 11th, 2016

Merch EDIT_187

SilencerCo’s new Spring clothing line was designed to promote the new millennial shift and consumer in the firearms industry. Through this new line, SilencerCo is pairing Marvel characters and other iconic images with their #FightTheNoise campaign, as well as placing special focus on their upcoming Maxim 9 integrally-suppressed 9mm pistol.

Below is a quote from SilencerCo CEO Josh Waldron regarding the direction they’re taking with their new lifestyle line:

“SilencerCo is able to reach the younger millennial audience because that’s actually a large portion of the people who make up our company. We can understand and market to that group because we are that group. My advice to companies looking to reach a younger demographic would be to consider hiring professionals from that particular demographic to run your marketing division; that way, you produce content that speaks to your desired market and really hits the mark.”
