Recently, we shared information about several technologies being examined by the US and British Armies during the Advanced Expeditionary Warfighting Experiment at Fort Benning, Georgia. MG McMaster narrates this video by the US Army’s Maneuver Battle Lab, discussing this year’s AEWA, TRADOC’s live, prototype experimentation campaign. AEWE addresses live, prototype experimentation requirements with a primary focus on the Soldier and Small Unit, examining concepts and capabilities for the current and future force across all warfighting functions.

Experts from Cohort company SEA will explain how the soldier of the future can be more effective when they present at the Future Soldier Technology conference in London on March 13-14.
The focus on soldier modernisation will include a presentation by SEA’s Laurence Bedford, Senior Principal Consultant Ground Close Combat, and Giles Verwey, Senior Principal Consultant, that will outline some of the technology developed in SEA’s recent Delivering Dismounted Effect Programme (DDE) carried out for the UK Ministry of Defence. In particular, they will look at how to develop the research from technology into capability.
SEA was prime contractor to the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (DSTL) on the DDE Research project and headed a team from industry and academia delivering integrated dismounted soldier systems research to the UK MoD.
The new systems considered included technologies for the weapon, helmet, torso and night vision systems using each element to develop an integrated soldier system.
In particular, the DDE research investigated the technical feasibility, benefits and costs associated with integrating power and data onto the weapon and helmet. All the systems were designed to meet the challenges required by an adaptable and flexible force dealing with evolving threats and it is envisaged will be part of the equipment and design of the future soldier.
Laurence Bedford has spent the past five years working on soldier systems research and was DDE programme manager. This was preceded by 20 years military experience as an Infantry Officer with significant operational and training experience.
Giles Verwey has considerable experience in defence research. Before DDE, this included work on a range of projects including soldier systems, radar, Electronic Warfare and sonar systems and ranged from concept modelling through development to trials and assessment. He was SEA’s technical lead for DDE.
The presentation will be at 1130 on day one of the conference, March 13.
Tasmanian Tiger displayed several news items including the TT Plate Carrier LP and TT Plate Carrier SK.
Manufactured from T-Stretch and T-Square Ripstop, the TT Plate Carrier LP is a lightweight carrier which weighs just 375 g and is designed to be worn under outer garments for low viz operations. Consequently, the materials are elastic for a snug fit, yet incorporates air permeable mesh on yhe interior so you don’t overheat. Additionally, there is a small pocket with Velcro closure at the front for flat items and Velcro panels at the front and rear for ID. The shoulder straps are adjustable for length and the cummerbund offers waist adjustment. The Vest fits all standard Schutzklasse (SK) 4 panels up to 30 x 25 cm.
Offered in Black, Coyote Brown and Olive.
The skeletonized design of the TT Plate Carrier SK is manufactured from TPU Cordura 700D with generous PALS compatible Velcro fields at the front and rear. It weighs 490 g and will integrate the TT FL Chest Rig. The waist strap is a simple bungee-style affair with side release buckle attachment. Finally, the vest comes with two elastic plate pockets which will accept most any SK4 plates from 30 x 25 cm up to 33 x 27 cm. This design allows the carrier to cradle the plates which are contained within the pockets.
Offered in Coyote Brown and Olive.
Holon, Israel, 7th March 2017-The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has announced the selection of Agilite’s Axis™ tactical knee pads for standard issue to all IDF combat troops from March 2017 onwards.
A 2017 adaptation of an old industrial design, Axis’s primary advantage is that unlike regular knee pads, they do not fall down. Whilst rather unusual in appearance (they are nicknamed “Robocop Knee Pads” in Israel), they outperformed every other type of knee pads in extensive IDF trials that spanned several months.
Agilite worked with IDF SF units to perfect the design which provides over 180 degrees of polymer, hard protection as well as internal closed-cell memory foam for comfort even over extended periods. They are also exceptionally light, weighing in at just 9oz (255g).
“Anyone who has spent five minutes in the military knows that with regular knee pads you spend all your time picking them up from your ankles. You put Axis on your knees and forget about them,” said Eric M, a five year veteran of Israel’s Navy SEALS (Shayetet 13) and Head of International sales at Agilite. “The look of them takes some getting used to but they outperform every other tactical knee pad by miles” said Marks. They are also preferential over internal pant knee pads as they provide exponentially more protection, surface coverage and comfort.
The IDF was looking for a new knee pad with increased durability and performance that does not fall down in order to increase combat awareness and the Agilite Axis was selected after an extended period in IDF SOF.
Agilite is now beginning trials of the Axis knee pads in SOF groups across Europe and North America.
Axis are available in Ranger Green, Flat Dark Earth (FDE) and Black from www.agilitegear.com or authorized Agilite dealers and retail at just $32.90.
