SOFIC – Pelican Introduces Pelican Air Line of Cases

May 26th, 2016

Pelican introduce a new line of cases called Pelican Air. Although up to 40% lighter than other Pelican cases, they still protect your valuables during storage and transit. That’s because they are molded from the use of their new HPX resin which rebounds without breaking as well as the use of honeycomb structural elements.

The design has been tested by dropping on concrete with loads from a height of six feet on all sides and corners as well as sustaining a 28lbs steel dart dropped on all sides from three feet. Additionally, the case is capable of being submerged for 30 mins at a depth of one meter.

SOFIC – Torraka Snow Camo Cold Weather Clothing System

May 26th, 2016

Known in Europe as Taiga, the Swedish brand uses the name Torraka in North America. As you’d imagine, they’ve got some interesting cold weather clothing, although it’s a little different than what we are used to.

Designed for conditions between 5 deg and -45 deg Celsius, the Torraka system starts with fishnet top and boxer base layer as well a level two long underwear.

When you need more insulation, they offer a fleece jacket and knicker length pant which can be donned and doffed even while wearing boots.

This is their cold weather combat uniform which constructed with a Gore-Tex membrane rather than offering an additional Gore-Tex outer layer.

For even colder condistions, they offer a reversible (Torraka Multi Terrain Pattern to Torraka Snow UV Pattern) insulation level which can be quickly dried. You may also notice that the trousers are boot height rather than full length. With the addition of this level, you can go down to -45 Degrees Celsius.

Torraka also offers a variety of head, hand and footwear to help you deal with these extreme conditions.  The loft insulation throughout was referred to as Thermalight.

Ops-Core Issues Product Advisory Information for FAST Base Jump Helmet

May 26th, 2016

Last week we shared a press release from TNVC regarding the availability of Ops-Core’s FAST Base Jump Helmet. Earlier today, I followed up with Ops-Core at SOFIC and they issued this press release. They found the issue on their own, conducted testing, and once they found a fix, have been forthcoming with me about the situation. It’s important to note that this issue does not pertain to any other Ops-Core or Gentex products.

Product Advisory Information for FAST Base Jump Helmet
(Now known as FAST Bump)*

Ops-Core, Inc. announced today that it is offering an impact liner upgrade kit for previously purchased FAST Base Jump Helmets (now known as FAST Bump) to ensure the helmet satisfies the blunt impact protection specification in ACH Specification CO/PD-05-04:2007. The FAST Bump Helmet will continue to be available for purchase according to the revised product specification which is available on the updated FAST Bump Helmet product page.

Testing confirmed that the FAST Bump Helmet meets the BS EN 1385 blunt impact test specification, but not the ACH blunt impact specification. While no customers or users have reported any issues, Ops-Core is offering the upgrade kit to ensure conformance with the ACH specification.

It is anticipated that the upgrade kit will be available in the 3rd quarter 2016. The upgrade kit will be provided and installed free of cost to customers requesting the upgrade. Customers should visit the website for details, which will be posted soon.

For questions regarding the upgrade process, or if you have a current order for the FAST Bump Helmet, please contact Patrick Stallings at 617-603-2433 or support@ops-core.com between the hours of 9:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. ET Monday to Friday.

To learn more about the FAST Bump Helmet upgrade, read the FAQs. (Available through the announcement on the website).

Ops-Core is continuing to test and evaluate the FAST Bump Helmet and encourages customers to visit www.ops-core.com, which will be updated as additional information becomes available.
