FirstSpear Six-Pack

Friday, May 4th, 2012

First-Spear has a new modular LBE pouch they call the First Spear ‘Six-Pack’. It’s designed to carry six (6) forty mike-mike rounds in two tiers of three (3) rounds each, one above the other. The Six-Pack, designed to occupy a minimal amount of real estate on your load out, buckles closed and drops open to access all six 40mm. Watch for it on the First-Spear website.

DR wrote this article but I have to tell you that I handled a prototype about two months ago and when I saw it I was like, “genius.” As you can see, it pops open and there they are, two trays of rounds. It was originally designed for users of the Mk14 Milkor USA grenade launcher, because they have to get at so many rounds at one time, but it looks great for any grenadier.

FirstSpear – The Walt Torso Holster

Monday, April 30th, 2012

Every once in awhile I take one look at a product and say to myself, “THAT is freakin’ awesome.” Before SHOT I got to see some sneak peeks of FirstSpear’s new products and the Walt was in amongst the others they were unveiling. And while, pretty much everything FirstSpear does has been quality, the Walt really stuck out for me.

I can’t say that I’m much of a fan of Tanker-style holsters. They have traditionally been the territory of US Army Mech and Armor officers who are channeling Patton and for some reason Marine Officers (maybe it’s a Chesty Puller thing). Either way, not exactly my vision of cool. But then, I see the Walt. It’s like something out of a 1930 adventure serial. A traditional design, but fully modernized. Take for example, the materials. The Walt Torso Holster features a body of waterproof material lined with Cordura and an adjustable shoulder strap made from a combination of nylon webbing and mesh. The strap is wide enough to be comfortable, yet not get in the way. There is also a removable quick-release belt anchor attachment but we removed it for these photos. Additionally, a bungee makes quick work of keeping your pistol in the holster. Just remember to remove it from the grip of your weapon before you attempt to draw it.

Everybody should have a Walt. It doesn’t matter if you are out on the back 40 mending fences or trotting around the FOB, the Walt will be your new best friend. This isn’t a quick draw holster but rather a working rig. Not only does it perform well, but it looks cool.

And now, the Walt is available in Black as well as Coyote. Either way, it features FirstSpear’s baddass skull logo laser engraved into the material. It fits the 1911, M9, 226, Glock, M&P, XD and other pistols of similar size. However, it does not fit a pistol equipped with a light or optic. Right or left hand draw.

Specialized Tactical Systems

Monday, April 9th, 2012

We were initially introduced to Specialized Tactical Systems at SHOT Show 2011 by Crye. For the past several years STS has produced weapons that are literally functional works of art on both engineering and aesthetic levels for Crye Precision sponsored fundraisers. This year’s gun (see below) with the desert digital finish raised $16,000 for the Wounded Warrior Foundation, Unit Scholarship Fund, and Navy Seal Fund.

At this year’s SHOT Show we renewed our acquaintance with STS and got a chance to take a closer look at their wares. We gotta tell you, Specialized Tactical Systems can build a gun. And you want to know how we know? We didn’t just take a look at what they are doing, but also at their customers. Turns out, they hand build rifles for several high end outfits including Craft International. In fact, they’ve been Craft International’s exclusive OEM manufacturer of AR15 and M16 weapons for a few years now.

Craft approached STS in 2009 at TTPOA in San Antonio looking for a high end manufacturer of weapons to do some OEM rifles for them. They didn’t want the standard “builder” of weapons but rather were looking for a Tier 1 weapons manufactured by a company with a record. Since then STS OEMs almost every Piston rifle they offer for Craft to include: Titan E, Titan SF, Titan 300, Titan I and Titan B.

You may have seen photos of Craft’s Chris Kyle carrying a black rifle in the press or in his book, “American Sniper.” That’s right. It’s a Specialized Tactical Systems carbine.

STS also produces custom lowers for certain customers. For more information on the full line of STS TiTAN weapons visit www.specializedtactical.com.

Tactical Floatation Support System

Thursday, April 5th, 2012

PECI Flotation LLC has introduced new armor compatible form factors of their highly popular Tactical Floatation Support System. Available with Overt (yellow) or Covert (black) bladders, TFSS provides 45 pounds of positive floatation in seawater at 33 feet, 57 pounds at 15 feet and 80 pounds on the surface. Additionally, TFSS has a safety confirmation for both staticline and MFF parachute operations from the US Army Developmental Test Command.

TFSS has been integrated into several armor designs including those by FirstSpear. In fact, FirstSpear is an early adopter. They immediately saw the lifesaving potential and went right to work on adapting their systems to accommodate TFSS. TFSS is not only a great way to provide emergency buoyancy it’s also low weight and volume compared to alternatives. FirstSpear’s integration is seamless and you won’t even know it’s there.

As you can see, Renegade Armor is offering TFSS as a stand alone system or integrated into any one of a variety of armor carriers.
