Haley Strategic Partners – Disruptive Industries Day Three

Thursday, June 14th, 2012

Disruptive Industries is a unique, invitation-only event bringing together industry, military, and law enforcement. It is designed to teach, inspire, build relationships, open communications and create new channels for innovation in the defense sector. Every experience has been devised to accomplish each of these tasks in one way or another, from training classes to meals as well as other organized social events.

We’ve already experienced two days of shooting, physical conditioning, and associated tactical training. Oddly enough, day 3 kicked off much like day 2, with another ass kicking from former Russian Spetznaz operator Saulius “Sonny” Puzikas. Except, this time, he really did kick our asses. During the various demonstrations of Systema hand to hand, pretty much every one of us got a chance to take a blow or two from Sonny. Naturally, we got to knock each other around a little as well. The training was no nonsense and focused on staying out of a grapple and incapacitating your aggressor. All in all, it was fantastic.

Next up were classes on surreptitious entry and restraint escape by Bryan Black of ITS Tactical. After lunch we ran through various room clearing drills. Scenarios focused on PSD work but the lessons could be applied to multiple scenarios.

As I mentioned earlier, D1 is very much about fostering innovation and relationships. One of the best things about Disruptive Industries is the opportunity to network and cross-talk. This includes all participants. Everyone has learned from our esteemed instructors and I’d hazard to guess that they have picked up a few things from us as well. Additionally, Mil and LE have been able to compare notes and share experiences with each other as well as interact with the industry reps. For the industry folks, this experience has been invaluable. In some cases, different companies have been able to discuss collaborations and, in every case, industry has gained knowledge from the interaction with military and LE attendees.

It’s been great working with the military and LE members as well as HSP’s industry partners HSGI, G-Code Holsters, Impact Weapons Components, Arc’teryx LEAF, Outdoor Research, US Palm, B5 Systems, Emissive Energy/Inforce, UTM, Rifle Dynamics, Dark Mountain Research, PNW Ammunition and Kill Cliff as well as media reps from ITS Tactical.

Don’t forget, ITS Tactical is also on hand so make sure you visit their site for additional photos. Look for the simultaneous release of an AAR from both of us soon. Until then, enjoy our serialized look at HSP’s Disruptive Industries.

ITS Tactical EDC Trauma Kit

Thursday, February 2nd, 2012

ITS Tactical has introduced an Every Day Carry Trauma Kit. It’s a great idea. Second only to training, I’d say that kit and ease of carry size is the biggest hurdle to getting folks to have medical supplies on hand when needed.

As you can see, it’s compact enough to always have close at hand. The EDC Trauma Kit is designed to stop the bleeding and is the size of an average wallet and weighs a mere 6 ounces.

The contents are latex-fee and all are Made in USA! except the gloves. Contents have a 3-Year Shelf Life.

-Combat Gauze LE (1)
-SWAT-T Tourniquet / Pressure Bandage (1)
-Pair of OD Nitrile Gloves (1)
-Pouch (1)

The Combat Gauze LE is a great product to use to start getting hemorrhaging under control. It is a soft, white, sterile, nonwoven 3” by 4 yds z-folded gauze impregnated with kaolin, an inert mineral that does not contain animal or human proteins or botanicals. It is recommended as the number one hemostatic agent by the COTCCC (Committee on Tactical Combat Casualty Care).

Additionally, I am a big fan of the SWAT-T which is an occlusive bandage that can be used as a tourniquet. Think of it as the product of the crossbreeding of an ace bandage and a bicycle innertube.

Naturally, we urge EVERYONE to seek out basic first-aid training and to train with the equipment you will be using. On top of that, gather the supplies you will need, based on your mission and have them available. Whether it’s from this kit, another brand, or something you put together yourself, do it.

You can get your ITS EDC Trauma Kit at www.itstactical.com. It is available with a Coyote or Black protective pouch.

Note: Due to Z-Medica policy ITS cannot ship QuikClot Combat Gauze outside the US to non APO/FPO addresses. Any International non APO/FPO orders are not allowed on ETA Kits.

New Medical Bags

Thursday, November 17th, 2011

It seems as if we got hit with a quadruple whammy this week on medic bags (five if you count Mayflower’s Back Panel). We already covered the Low Profile Medical Kit from Phokus Research Group but there are a few other new models as well.

First up is the new ETA Trauma Kit Pouch from ITS Tactical. Developed in conjunction with ZULU Nylon Gear, the ETA Trauma Kit Pouch was designed to carry their Vacuum Sealed ETA Trauma Kit (designed to TCCC standards) as well as any other items the user needs to get at quickly. It is a compartmented design that is rapidly opened with the pull of a single loop connected to dual zippers. In addition to the main, rearmost pocket, there are two rear wing pockets large enough to store Decompression Needles and NPAs or other Airway devices. Additionally, the main flap panel design features the ITS Med Insert design. Finally, there is a channel between the pouch and MALICE clip webbing that will accommodate trauma shears, tourniquet pouch, or rescue hook.

Learn more at www.itstactical.com.

Next is the SPECOPS IPMED or Indywidualny Pakiet Medyczny or Individual Medical Packet. As you may recall, SPECOPS.PL is a Polish company. As you can see, the IPMED is a multi-component pouch designed to be worn drop leg style and consists of four parts including a removable, tethered envelope for medical supplies. Interestingly, it made from 770D Cordura (common in Europe) in Coyote Brown. It comes filled with a medical kit built to TCCC standards. Read the whole review at equipped.pl.

Finally, many of us are outdoorsmen but unfortunately, we don’t have the same level of medical gear for our outdoor pursuits that troops carry on the battlefield. Let’s face it, accidents happen in the woods. And if you’re hunting, trapping, or fishing, the results of an injury can be life threatening. That’s why our friends at Blackheart International developed the Sportsman Trauma Kit. Designed to fit in a cargo pocket, the was assembled by a former SF 18D and will feel very familiar to military personnel.

The kit Includes:
1 Custom bag, BDU Pocket Size
2 Krinkle Guaze
1 Emergency Bandage, 4″
1 Cravats
1 Casualty Cards (Triage Tags)
1 Asherman Chest Seal
1 Tourniquet, CAT one handed

There’s lots of great kit out there, and this is just the newest stuff. Make sure you take care of yourself and get the medical gear you need to keep yourself in the fight.

ITS Tactical Blow Out Kit

Friday, November 20th, 2009

Our friends at Imminent Threat Solutions didn’t just show you how to create a blow out kit they went the extra mile and are offering one for sale.

The kit was assembled by their resident SF medic following Tactical Combat Casualty Care guidelines. This means that the contents meet the basic standard set for American combat medical treatment. In particular the kit has been assembled to mitigate the three leading preventable causes of death in the field; Extremity Hemorrhage, 60%; Tension Pneumothorax, 33% and Airway Obstruction, 6%. What’s more, the kit is latex free!
