Mystery Ranch Rapid Access Trauma System (RATS) Pack

Mystery Ranch | RATS PACK BVS from Mystery Ranch on Vimeo.

Mystery Ranch’s RATS pack is designed as a frontline medic bag with every detail focused on quick, one-handed access to organized medical supplies. The RATS features multiple trauma shears and tourniquet holders throughout and large reinforced handles for hanging the pack on branches or inside helicopters. It’s sized so when mounted on the NICE frame, there is room below the pack for carrying litter or hydraulic combi tools.

Internally, the RATS features four removable pockets with clear vinyl windows and two IV bag pockets. An internal trash pocket allows the wearer to keep track of items used. Two internal sleeves allow for storage of splints and other long items. The removable Bolstered Ventilation and Stability (BVS) system optimizes the pack for uses with or without body armor. The back panel of the RATS stores a closed-cell foam pad to insulate patients from the ground.

See it at SOMA booth #101.

Monday, December 9th, 2013

I’d like to personally express my thanks for last week’s outstanding writers event hosted by SureFire and 5.11 Tactical. It was extremely well organized and I appreciate the opportunity to see behind the curtain. I’d particularly like to call out Mike Voigt and Barry Dueck as well as Danny P for their instructional skills.

I’d also like to mention the additional sponsors: Aimpoint, Dueck Defense, Firebase Combat Studies Group, Hornady, Lewis Machine & Tool, Mystery Ranch, Pitbull Tactical, Safariland, and Zev Technologies. The event would not have been possible without your support.

Finally, thanks to Leah, Tom and Garin for herding us cats and putting up with our incessant attempts to derail your marketing plans. Dave R, the insight into 5.11 was quite eye opening. You guys have assembled quite a team.

Does Your MR NICE Frame Need A Lift?

Monday, November 18th, 2013

The NICE Frame was designed to maintain a low profile to be used with smaller adaptable bags. But Mystery Ranch listened to their hunting customers who had adopted it for their use. They carry some serious loads so MR developed an adapter called the NICE Lifter to offer a steeper load lifter angle. It might also be just the thing for some of you guys who use the NICE frame for tactical applications.

The Mystery Cinch

Thursday, October 31st, 2013

When the Mystery Conch first came out, we created a quick video to show you how it works.

But Mystery Ranch has done us ne better and produced a great video that not only shows how it works but also how to install it.

Mystery Ranch | Mystery Cinch from Mystery Ranch on Vimeo.

The Mystery Cinch was designed to improve the comfort of nearly any pack over body armor. Now issued to every Marine as part of their new pack system, the Mystery Cinch routes a pack’s shoulder straps out of the user’s armpits and effectively marries the pack straps to the user’s armor. You can shoulder a weapon easier, blood flow to hands increases and overall comfort and fatigue levels are improved. When you’re ready to jettison the pack, simply unsnapping and pulling the quick-release webbing immediately releases the pack straps. It works for everybody, not just Marines.

DSEi – Mystery Ranch

Tuesday, September 10th, 2013

When Dana Gleason launched Mystery Ranch in 2000, he began to bring production back to the US in order to regain control. Quickly, he began to realize that military and firefighters were more demanding of their equipment than the average user. One thing Dana loves is a challenge and that’s why you saw such a focus at MR on the Soldier. Dana related to me that the more he worked with them, the more deserving he felt they were as customers.

Mystery Ranch has dedicated production at historic Clark Field, Republic of the Philippines to produce packs and other products for those customers who do not require full Berry Compliance such as international clients. For example, the Australian Army issues packs made at Clark Field. The Philippines have long been a US Ally and the production facility has certainly risen to the challenge of manufacturing military grade packs. One challenge that exists is that the gear must be interchangeable no matter where it is produced. For example, a country may purchase some packs produced at Clark Field directly from MR and then purchase additional packs through FMS that are made in Montana. They have to be completely compatible with interchangeable parts and MR works hard to ensure this capability.

While most of the materials are Made in USA, this new offshore production opens some new opportunities. For example, some materials are not available in the US. Not only can they bemused in the production of these foreign produced packs but it can serve as an opportunity to identify new technologies to bring back into the US. Although, it’s important to note that all special projects remain at the home office.

Most importantly, none of this would be possible if MR hadn’t spent several years perfecting the quality standards and controls to produce consistently in multiple locations. Ranchers are on location at all MR production facilities both in the US as well as at Clark Field to provide a guiding hand in all aspects of production. For you the customer, it won’t matter where your pack was built so long as it came from Mystery Ranch.

This new, additional Mystery Ranch production seems to be a big hit at this international show. Already, MR packs have been adopted by a wide variety of international SOF and general purpose forces customers. Remember, this in no way affects US production which remains full speed ahead. Rather, this Philippine production move has made Mystery Ranch competitive for international tenders.
