You Know You’ve Made it When…

Thursday, July 9th, 2009

…they make a 1/6th action figure version of your product. There have been a few TADesque products produced in the past to fit classic GI Joe sized figures but now TAD has licensed their design and logo to Cak Tek USA for the soon-to-be-released Soldier Story PMC Instructor.

TAD’s Alter Ego

Thursday, May 21st, 2009

We are big fans of Triple Aught Designs here at Soldier Systems Daily and every once in awhile we will get an email from a reader telling us about a new discovery that TAD Gear has an alter ego called Rocket World. Yes we know, and yes it is really cool.

In addition to providing a venue for non-tactical products, Rocket World is a vehicle for the folks at TAD’s other passion; high end figures and collectible toys. Their centerpiece is the “Insurgents Wilderness Gruppo” or IWG, a group of evolved animals who seek revenge on humans who kill endangered species.

 "I  n s u r g e n t s   W i l d e r n e s s    G r u p p o " Titus

In addition to figures, the theme is also carried out in art, clothing, and patches and pins.

Rocket World has been recently featured on several gadget websites and the IWG line of toys has long been a favorite of collectors. In fact, as new projects are released they sell out very quickly.

Check out what everyone is raving about at www.rocketworld.org.

Skull & Bones Shemagh from TAD

TAD Shemagh

TAD Gear has reintroduced their popular Skull and Bones pattern Shemaghs. I have had the Brown and OD versions since they came out. The TAD Shemagh is very well made and epitomizes the term Tacti-Cool. They are approximately 44″ x 44″ and made from 100% cotton. Since they are cotton I suggest washing in cold to avoid shrinkage.

TAD Shemagh

Available in three new color schemes including Black with Black skulls, Grey with Black skulls, and Desert Tan with Black skulls, the new run of Shemaghs is available from Triple Aught Designs.

TAD Gear

It seems like we write an awful lot about TAD Gear but what can we say? We love TAD Gear. And besides, they are constantly bringing out innovative new products. In fact, they just released 5 additional designs to their innovative Ranger Eye line. The v3.0 Glow In The Dark (GITD) Ranger Eyes feature new artwork including (clockwise) Skull Spade, Grizzly Titus, Skull Bones, MOD Skull, Affonso Rhino, and the Terminator Skull from the v2.0 line is still available as well. The animal characters are from Rocket World’s I.W.G. line which has spawned an entire line of designer toys.

TAD Gear Ranger Eyes ver3.0

They are 3/4″ tall and manufactured from PVC. The Ranger Eyes attach to caps, packs, clothing, or anything with a patch of velcro pile.

As you can see, the designs stand out quite well in the dark. Sold in matched pairs, significant discounts are applied for purchase of multiple sets. Go here to purchase.

TAD’s New Merino Proline Neck Gaiter and Brain Case Watch Cap

TAD Gear

Proline Neck Gaiter
Neck gaiters have been around for some time. My introduction to them was seeing Royal Marines in the Falklands campaign wearing them for warmth against the extreme weather. Based on this, years later while in the Army I jumped at the chance to purchase a commercial offering made from polypropylene. Unfortunately, neither the design nor fabric were very good. However, TAD seems to have gotten it right with theirs. At work or at play, the low bulk Proline Neck Gaiter combines military functionality with outdoor industry fabrics. The gaiter is unique in that it is cut on a bias. You often see this feature with balaclavas but not neck gaiters. This allows you to wear it folded over turtleneck-style or pulled up completely over the face.

Brain Case Watch Cap
TAD designed this comfortable knit cap to be low profile so that it would fit under a variety of headgear. The Merino’s low bulk to insulation ratio means that your helmet won’t sit way up on your head. It is very comfortable. So much so that my four year old has absconded with mine.

Merino Wool
Both products are manufactured from Australian Merino Wool which has been used in the outdoor industry for some time due to its breathability and wickability. Merino has some additional traits that make it great as a tactical fabric but it has only recently been used in this application here in the US due to Berry issues. Please remember that as a natural fiber Merino wool is inherently FR. It is extremely soft, pill resistant, and you won’t notice any of that itchy feeling normally associated with wool. This is great for those with severe sensitivities or lanolin allergies.

Both of these fine products are available in Black, M.E. Green, and M.E. Brown.

Visit TAD Gear to order both the watch cap and neck gaiter.

Solio Chargers

Solio

Keeping your electronic gadgets charged, especially when deployed can be a serious challenge. While you can be out of practically everything else, one thing is in abundance; sunlight. Consequently, solar chargers are a great option but many require large, unwieldy, and expensive panels. Then came Solio chargers and in particular the Magnesium Edition.

Solio Magnesium Edition

New this season, the Magnesium Edition is lightweight, durable and takes up little space. Capable of accepting a charge from its internal solar panels or from shore power via a standard plug (international adapters available), the rechargeable ME stores its internal charge up to one year (80% of charge at one year). When used as a solar collector the device stores the power and when in use as a battery regulates its output as though coming from shore power. A full Solio ME will charge a typical mobile phone more than twice or give over 20 hours of MP3 music – just 1 hour of sunshine = 20 minutes talk time or 50 minutes of MP3 music.

Solio Magnesium Edition

Technical Specs:

* Nominal DC Output: 3V 3A
* Maximum Wattage: 9 Watts
* Battery: Rechargeable Lithium Ion 3.7V 1.8A cell
* DC Input: 5-6V 0.4Ah
* Dimensions (LxHxW): 4.72 x 1.34 x 2.56 in (120 x 34 x 63.5 mm)
* Weight: 6.38 oz. (179g)
* Temperature Range: -4F to 131F (-20C to 55C)

What’s more, the ME charger now comes with iGo adapters. Anyone familiar with the iGo system knows that they have an adapter for virtually anything. Solio offers a wide range of iGo adapters but click here if you need more information on iGo.

Included in each charger:

o Charging Cable for iGo® tip system
o Female USB Cable (powers iPhone, iPod, MP3s)
o iGo Motorola Razor tip
o iGo LG Chocolate tip
o iGo Nokia tip
o iGo Samsung tip
o iGo Blackberry tip
o Pencil
o Solio Draw String Hemp Pouch*
o Universal Wall Adapter

* We recommend DoD users dump the Hemp Pouch.

The Magnesium edition is the top of the Solio range, so be sure to check out all of their offerings. While Solio is a UK-based company, we have found the best place to get them Stateside is TAD Gear. TADGear really supports the troops and often has products on special discounts.

TAD Gear Bandoleer

Monday, June 30th, 2008

A few weeks ago we mentioned that Triple Aught Designs had begun to develop a line of niche load carrying solutions. They recently introduced the Bandoleer. Designed as a versatile, grab and go platform, the Bandoleer is as useful at work as it is at play. A friend sent us this photo of him using the Bandoleer during a recent fishing trip and he told us, “The fish never saw me coming”.

Bandoleer at Play

The Bandoleer can be configured for right or left handed carry and is quickly donned and an anti-sway strap keeps the Bandoleer stable during strenuous activity. Worn like a sash, the padded Cordura panels are lined with Coolmax for comfort and the shoulder pad features a no-slip surface to keep it where it belongs. Fully compatible with MOLLE pouches, the Bandoleer also accommodates the ever expanding range of specialized TAD pouches which utilize the 2TIBS attaching system. The Bandoleer is an excellent foundation for a Bug Out Kit, especially for mounted troops or Law Enforcement professionals who find themselves constantly in the confined space of a vehicle.

We have already seen similar versions from their competitors but this one is the original. The Bandoleer is available in Black, Foliage Green, and Multicam and can be purchased from TAD or authorized dealers.
