SHOT Show 17 – Unifire Half Talon Knife by Buck Knives

Wednesday, January 18th, 2017

A couple of years ago, Unifire came up with a machete-style blade after a jungle symposium in Hawaii. The Talon is made by Buck Knives exclusively for Unifire. This year, they slightly modified the original design, making it a bit smaller for more everyday use as a utility fixed blade knife.

The Half Talon seen above the full-size Talon FMC, is a full tang design, made from 5160 spring steel with a 1/4″ backstrap and convex design blade which offers three times the cutting strength over a standard design.

The reverse features an open limb hook like a bolo-style knife. The blade also has a Pry point at the tip and 2″ serrated edge near the grip. The butt can be used as a hammer.

The Talon’s blade is Cerakoted and incorprates a multi-layer Micarta handle. It also has multiple lash points. The sheath has a drain hole and can be worn at the belt or attached to PALS webbing.

The software can also be used by investigators and prosecutors to recreate crime scenes. Data sets can come from a wide variety of sources. For example, the parking lot image in the graphic above was taken by a DSLR from a state police helo. They later mensurated the image using the software.

Now the exciting part. It will run on a mobile device. You don’t have to hand out hard copies.
