SIG SAUER - Never Settle

ORWM – Adidas Terrex

Wednesday, January 11th, 2017

These are my three picks for Fall/Winter 17 from Adidas Terrex.

This is the Terrex FAST Gore-Tex Surround which incorporates, off course, Gore-Tex Surround technology which breathes at the sole as well as on the upper. That’s thanks to the membrane and the channels in the midsole.

This mid height fast hiker also incorporates a Continental rubber outsole along with speed lacing. It weighs 390 grams and has a 9.5 mm drop.

The Terrex Swift Solo incorporates a Stealth rubber outsole. This 225 grams approach shoe also offers a ClimaCool upper.

This bad boy is the Terrex Conrax Boa with 200 grams of PrimaLoft AND Stealth Rubber AND Boa lacing system. If that isn’t enough, it also features their patented Boost midsole which is an encapsulated PU which is temperature independent and does not compress meaning you get the ultimate cushion and rebound regardless of conditions.

See WeaponLogic by Secubit USA at SHOT Show

Wednesday, January 11th, 2017

For many years the military has been seeking out a reliable means to accurately record the use of its small arms inventory in order to better manage its lifecycle. For instance, preventive maintenance becomes more effective as accurate understanding of how and when weapon components wear out and replacement parts are installed before the originals wear out. This keeps weapons in the fight longer and improves both accuracy and reliability. For many years, the proposed solution has been a round counter, installed on the weapon.

Some examples of recent requirements include:
NAVSOC RFI Released for combat evaluation which stems from an earlier, original RFI that was released from CRANE.
Red Dot sight contract from Crane listed shot counting technology as an objective requirement either by directly accessing the rounds from a button combination that displayed on the screen or a separate scanning device. A round count will help them to make a more educated decision on whether the optic is worth repairing or if it’s just old enough to replace.
-SURG Requirement listed shot counter as an objective requirement.

Secubit USA has been hard at work refining their WeaponLogic device. Although many refer to it as a shot counter, it answers these requirements, and much more.

WeaponLogic Attributes:
-Passive RFID capabilities
-360 Deg view of your weapon’s current state
-Smart analysis of shot profile including energy and duration
-Records shots fired, cadence of fire, shot duration and burst rate
-Provides information on rate of fire for ammunition checks
-Greatly reduces the amount of inspection and maintenance

As you can see, the Counter fits into a hollow in the pistol grip and also serves as an RF tag, giving the weapon a unique signature which can be interrogated via a reader. Collected data can then be parsed in a variety of ways for different applications. This also enhances sensitive material control by identifying the weapon, even when it is stored with others, via RF interrogation.

Additionally, WeaponLogic can be integrated into an automated arms room. Secubit is working on integration with Smart Track, a Williams Engineering product. Smart Track is a digital asset tracking and management system that uses Smartcards cards, PIN’s, Biometrics, IUID tags, RFID and 2D bar-coding to inventory, track, trace, account, maintain, issue and receive equipment for all critical and non-critical unit property. The system produces approved forms, providing an electronic copy of each and every system transaction.

WeaponLogic will be on display at SHOT Show in the ADS Inc booth, #20415. WeaponLogic is also available for Unit and Agency orders through ADS Inc.

ORWM – Beyond

Tuesday, January 10th, 2017

Coming this Summer, this is the Argus Hoodie from Beyond. It’s made from a 300 weight, brushed Polartec fleece. I like the crossover hood opening and monkey paw feature. The Argus Hoodie will be offered in Coyote, as seen here.

This is the Level 10 is based on the Arctic Combat Concept ensemble accomplished last year.  When it’s used as a system it will go down to -50 deg F in static – situation and to -70 Deg F while moving thanks to the 7 oz Climashield fill.  It incorporates a North American Coyote ruff, available for separate order in packs of two.  This is because the ruffs are non-Berry but also the best available for use in extreme cold environments.  Due to the Berry issue, Beyond worked within the framework of the DFAR and offers them for separate order.

The front flap can be opened with a one hand pull to access an armor carrier beneath.

The Anorak features dual side zips to facilitate donning and doffing and the seat of both Anorak and Trouser are reinforced with Cordura.

Beyond products are available for unit and agency order through ADS Inc.

ORWM – CTOMS

Tuesday, January 10th, 2017

While most companies start out by offering commercial colored mountaineering and then add earthtones for tactical customers, CTOMS has done the opposite. Founded by Canadian SAR Tech Chris Kopp, CTOMS had tactical colored kit from the outset and has just started to introduce Orange versions of their TRACE systems for Search and Rescue work.

These two Green kits are identical except for the SOF and SAR colorways.

They have an ever expanding lone of Orange offerings, to supplement their existing line of Matte Grey and Olive Drab. Interestingly, they’ve also introduced Blue carabiners for the rope end of any devices.

They are also introducing Orange pouches for the kits.

All of the outsoles in this line get their DNA from the old Panama tread of the USGI Jungle Boot.

Here’s an OTB Maritime Assault Shoe in Low Viz colors.
