PenCott Camouflage Pathfinder BDU Now Available From Hyde Definition

Back in April we gave you a preview of Hyde Definition’s Pathfinder BDU. Now, they’re available. These are Berry compliant garments made in small runs, but they are unique in both camouflage pattern and layout.

Limited quantities of the made-in-the-USA Pathfinder BDU are available now directly from Hyde Definition Ltd with free shipping to addresses in the US.

Hyde Definition developed the “Pathfinder BDU” to fulfil numerous requests for a US-made lightweight tactical uniform in PenCott camouflage pattern 50/50 NyCo fabric.

Named in honor of the elite “first in” paratroops of WWII, the Hyde Definition Pathfinder BDU is based on the ACU chassis and follows the standard US Army ACU sizing and fit chart. However, the Pathfinder BDU takes the familiar ACU platform to a whole new level. It features stylistic nods to the US paratroopers’ classic M-42 Jump Suit, the ground-breaking special operations RAID BDU, as well as other modern innovations and improvements.

CFF Claymore Bag Available in Additional Colors

Thursday, August 15th, 2013

Combat Flip Flops has introduced additional colors for their Claymore Bag. I purchased one of the Ranger Green versions from the first run and used it during Outdoor Retailer earlier this month. First off, the Magnetic Velcro fasteners are awesome! Also, I really like the size and the two-point rifle sling shoulder strap is very easy to adjust. I also like the accessories. I used the sunglass and iPad Mini pouches. Although the Claymore Bag also comes with a phone pouch, I didn’t use it. It’s not that it doesn’t work, because it does. It’s just that I keep my phone in my pants.

Urban Grey, Black, Coyote Brown, and You Can’t Miss Me Silver available for pre-order.

Winter Is Coming

Thursday, August 15th, 2013

All around the Pentagon they are saying, “Winter is coming” borrowing a catch phrase from the HBO series “Game of Thrones”. Just as in the series, it is meant as a warning that bad days are coming.

20130813-145140.jpg

If you thought FY2013 was fun thanks to Sequestration, then you will love FY2014. DoD is facing a $52 Billion (yes, with a B) shortfall. It didn’t hurt enough this year substantially because the folks at DoD made it work. Consequently, Congress isn’t going to fix it. But next year? It’s going to be extra special. Prepare accordingly. When the military asks you to develop a capability using IRAD ask to see the acquisition strategy. Weigh your risk. Remember, Winter isn’t even here yet and already some companies have the flu.

Grey Ghost Gear Announces Release Of The Slim Medical Pouch

Wednesday, August 14th, 2013

Dalton Gardens, ID —14 AUG 13— Grey Ghost Gear announces it has released the SLIM MEDICAL (SMP) pouch for general purchase. After months of T&E at home and in Afghanistan with SOF personnel the SMP is commercially available.

Asked why they chose to build particular piece of kit as the next in their line-up, Grey Ghost Gear Vice President responds “The reason we decided to put it in the marketplace
is simply because there’s very little else out there like it. It contains just enough stuff to treat yourself has some great features—a TQ cinch on the front, clamshell opening tab on top so you can tear it open easily under stress with bloody or sweaty hands, that sort of thing.”

The Slim Medical Pouch is currently available in MultiCam and Coyote, though additional ‘civilian’ colors as well as an all-black version are planned.

Lindsey Lea, Grey Ghost Gear’s Director of Business Development, explains further. “Our designers built this on info we’ve gotten back from guys in a number of different places, including one of the SFGs [Special Forces Groups] that’s over there now. It may evolve somewhat in the future if the threat changes or what they tell us demands it, but all necessary changes appear to have been made in the early stages and trials. Right now it’s built exactly the way they wanted it.”

20130814-133538.jpg

The Slim Medical Pouch is constructed of 500 Denier Cordura® nylon. It takes up just two modular webbing channels on the mounting platform and secures with the two included Malice Clips®. As the name implies, it has a slim profile and is specifically designed to carry the most important immediate action trauma supplies. Dual zippers running the full length of the pouch and a large pull time allow quick access to the contents inside the pouch.

The inside contains more than ample room for vital trauma kit, as well as a flat pocket and elastic bands to secure various items. A bungee retainer system on the front of the pouch can cinch a tourniquet or other gear down, and two rows of modular webbing on either side will hold trauma shears or other items.

The pouch was designed to carry the following items but is capable of storing an array of other items as needed:

• 1 Pair of Nitril gloves
• HALO Chest seal x 2
• CAT Tourniquet x 2
• Trauma Shears
• Decompression Needle
• H&H compressed Gauze x2
• Quickclot Combat Gauze
• 6” Israeli Compression Bandage

ArmorSource Awarded Lightweight, Advanced Combat Helmet Contract

Wednesday, August 14th, 2013

Today, I’m on assignment in Ohio at the ArmorSource factory. I’ve been here once before and I’ve got to tell you, it’s one of the cleanest factories I’ve ever seen. You can really feel the pride in what they do. And today, they’ve definitely got something to crow about. ArmorSource has literally just announced a major contract award from the Army. On hand is Sen Rob Portman (R-OH).

20130814-094014.jpg
The LW ACH is in the center, surrounded by other ArmorSource helmets including boltless models and the Kryptek dipped rifle helmet.

There is a lot of win today. With this contract, the Army is capitalizing on the work accomplished on the Enhanced Combat Helmet by purchasing a lightweight version of the ACH. The standard ACH size Large has a max weight of 3.31 lbs. the new Lightweight version has a max weight of 3.05 lbs but ArmorSource’s version is coming in below that. That’s going to be great since we continue to mount equipment on the Soldier’s head. The LW ACH is not only lighter than the existing ACH, it also continues to provide the same level of protection. Additionally, ArmorSource is hiring 250 people to make these helmets for our troops. Improved protection for our men and women in uniform and American jobs. What could be better?

ArmorSource, LLC (ArmorSource) today announced its award for the first delivery order of the Lightweight, Advanced Combat Helmet (LW ACH). The award is a two-year, $92,681,250 fixed price indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract. The award marks a significant step in the Army’s efforts to lighten the soldier’s load, as this award will provide soldiers with the Army’s lightest helmet yet.

Ballistic Lab Manager John Stenson briefs Sen Portman on ArmorSource’s in-house testing capabilities.

The LW ACH, or AS-505, is the latest result of cooperation between industry and the Department of Defense (DoD) to best serve the men and women of our Armed Forces. By reducing the weight of the current Advanced Combat Helmet by four ounces, the LW ACH provides superior protection while alleviating the extreme weight burden soldiers must sustain on their head and neck. This critical piece of equipment will both better serve our men and women in uniform, and improve their operational readiness.

20130814-105903.jpg

“We are extremely pleased to have been awarded this LW ACH order,” said Yoav Kapah, CEO, ArmorSource. “This helmet is a significant step forward for our soldiers. It provides improved ballistic head protection while reducing the overall soldier load. We take great pride in supporting our troops, and we’re honored that ArmorSource has been selected to partner with the DoD on this initiative.”

As the largest ballistic helmet manufacturer in the United States, ArmorSource’s state-of-the-art 120,000 square foot facility allows the Company an output capacity of over 500,000 helmets per year, and a strict on-time delivery history. To fulfill the LW ACH award on time, ArmorSource anticipates hiring up to 250 individuals in 2014.

20130814-110157.jpg

Following a tour of the ArmorSource facility today, Senator Rob Portman, R-OH, said, “I couldn’t be more proud that helmets made by skilled, Ohio manufacturing will protect our men and women in uniform. I’m pleased that the Defense Department finally moved forward with this acquisition – our soldiers in the field need it. While we’ll see 250 new jobs here, our soldiers will be getting an advanced helmet that is lighter and keeps them protected on the battlefield.”

The initial LW ACH award will ship from ArmorSource to the Defense Logistics Agency for on-going sustainment of the U.S. Army starting in the third quarter of calendar year 2014.
