Savox Thor – The Future of Headgear

Monday, March 9th, 2015

savox THOR 4

Tactical Headgear for Operational Requirements (THOR) has been adopted by the Finnish Defense Forces as the helmet component of their Soldier Modernization Program: Warrior 2020. A multi-year contract was recently let by the Finnish Defense Forces Logistics Command, with initial deliveries being used for acceptance testing. Savox is the prime contractor of the consortium behind THOR, along with industry partners, Millog Oy (night vision) and Fy-Composites Oy (ballistic protection).

savox THOR 1

The core of THOR is a boltless design ballistic helmet made from a Dyneema/Aramid blend providing protection against ballistic threats: fragments and bullets to STANAG 2920 1.1g FSP-v50: 450. 750m/s – back face deformation <25mm; NIJ0106.01 9 mm FMJ bullet 430m/s. The shell also meets EN 397 shock absorption requirements. savox THOR 3

Additionally, special night vision goggles and hearing protection have been designed specifically to integrate with this helmet. As you can see in the photos, the NVGs stow very close to the helmet and are light enough to not need a counterweight. The goggles offer a 60°-wide view angle (also available is 40° FOV) and can be used in mono or bino configurations. These us Millog’s Hi60 3rd Gen tubes offering human recognition up to 150-250m as well as an integrated IR illuminator.

The various technologies developed specifically for the helmet are marketed under FLEXfamily.

For example, the FLEXfit ratchet system allows the rapid adjustment of fit for a wide variety of head types. Next comes FLEXadjust which covers the adjustable, multi-axis mounting systems for the NVGs and earpro. In addition to ANR headphones (23dB), the user can attach a boom or bone conductive skull microphone in addition to throat and internal respirator mic options. Like most systems currently fielded, power and volume adjustments are on the side via buttons. Additionally, the earphones can be placed in one of three positions without removing the helmet or losing communications.

savox THOR 2

FLEXnet is an integrated databus both internal and external to the helmet. This works hand-in-hand with the FLEXrail which allows the mounting of Picatinny compatible accessories to the powered rail system incorporating a USB integration interface. THOR features five of these FLEXrails which can bring data into the from cameras and sensors helmet as well as exfil it to other devices such as radios. These FLEXrails also incorporate FLEXpower which provides power to the devices as well as all accessories internally through the helmet.

S.O.TECH Supplies LAPD With Speed Clip IFAKs Assembled By Homeless Veterans

Sunday, March 8th, 2015

LOCAL HOMELESS VETERANS WORK TO SAVE POLICE LIVES

LAPD purchases 2,700 first aid pouch kits from S.O.TECH and Green Vets LA

Speed-Clip-Veterans-7th

The goal is to help at-risk veterans to rejoin the society they once served, and they are doing it by bonding with those who wear the uniform to protect our streets. Veteran members of Vets Corps / Green Vets LA were subcontracted by S.O.Tech to assemble 2,700 individual first aid kits (IFAKs) that were delivered to the Los Angeles Police Department. These kits include tourniquets, pressure dressings and clotting agents that have been proven to save lives after gunshot and knife wounds.

Vets Corps searches for projects that provide work therapy that will inspire its Veterans to rejoin society. The knowledge that this product may save the life of a law enforcement officer builds a mental bond between this marginalized population of the street and the uniform wearing symbols of authority in our society. Their product will be supplied to both the Los Angeles Police Department and the Los Angeles Sheriffs Department, two of the world’s premier law enforcement agencies. And while this population of formerly homeless and at-risk Veterans have lived a hard life on the streets, their therapy draws from their experiences of service while in uniform, a common point they share with these law enforcement officers. As an additional benefit to the community, providing a job for this population not only reduces homelessness, but it can also reduce the resultant crime.

S.O.TECH Special Operations Technologies Inc. located in Carson, California manufactures in house and has established a small sewing, assembly and printing shop located inside the West Los Angeles Veterans Administration Hospital. S.O.TECH has sponsored Vets Corps since 2010, providing projects such as sewn reusable cloth shopping bags and Challenge Bear stuffed animals. The Veterans earn a paycheck from the program as well as receiving job training.

S.O.TECH’s Speed Clip System was chosen by LAPD and LASD for its revolutionary quick attachment capability for officers to grab and mount a rig to their thigh, belt or vest during rapidly developing scenarios rather than permanently carrying items on cluttered belts. S.O.TECH’s Speed Clip mounts medical pouches, Taser holsters, police rifle magazine pouches, radio pouches and riot control pepper dispenser carriers. The Speed Clip system is protected by multiple U.S. patents.

S.O.TECH is also supplying an equally large number of Taser Holsters to both LAPD and LASD from the Speed Clip line. The members of Vets Corps also worked on this production effort, taking pride in being part of an effort to provide less lethal options to officers confronting dangerous situations. Vets Corps is a 501c3 non-profit.

Zyon Systems

Sunday, March 8th, 2015

Zyon Systems is an emergency preparedness company started by a former Federal LEO and Wilderness Ranger. Zyon offers “professional caliber configured emergency kits” for LEOs, aid workers, and private citizens.

IMG_0671

Configurations offered by Zyon utilize products from companies such as Leatherman, CamelBak, Snugpak, and MSR, among many others. The Patrol Pack, for example, is a pack intended for use with First Responders in rural environments. It is based around a CamelBak H.A.W.G, and comes with essential equipment, including food and water storage for an entire shift or operation. Items that come in the kit includes: a Leatherman Wave Multitool, Fenix HL55 headlamp, additional CR123 and AA batteries, Adventure Medical Kits TraumaPak and first aid kit, S.O.L. Scout Survival Kit, water purification tablets, a Snugpak Enhanced Patrol Poncho, Mechanix Wear gloves, Camcon face camo, and more.

In addition to their pre-assembled packages, Zyon Systems also offers the following services:

– They will replace any “consumable item” like batteries, food, toiletries etc. that come from one of their packages, if they are used on a real world service call, operation, or emergency. They do require the end user pays the shipping cost, however the item itself is replaced at no additional charge.

– Packs can be sent with all packaging removed so the full kits are ready for deployment right out of the box when they arrive.

– They are capable of fulfilling custom orders, and will have a DUNS number for Government contracts shortly.

– They are offering a “community aid kit” at our wholesale cost to encourage people to prepare to help their community if need be.

– They have a ‘field journal’ section where reports on real world testing of gear is posted. Recent reviews include the Hill People Gear Mountain Serape and back country wood stoves.

You can check out all Zyon Systems has to offer at www.zyonpro.com.
