SHOT Show – EOTech

Wednesday, January 20th, 2016

We’ll be blunt: for obvious reasons, we didn’t know what EOTech’s presence was going to be at this year’s SHOT; we partially wondered if they would even show up. However, business must continue, and it seems that’s no exception for the EOTech brand. This year, they forgoed any additions to their line of Holographic sights, and instead displayed a new line of Vudu Precision Rifle Scopes.

DSC07057

The Vudu scopes come in multiple magnifications and reticle configurations, however the various models, which come in 1-6x, 2.5-10x, and 3.5-18x magnifications, do share virtually the same universal features.

The Vudu line scopes feature single-piece aircraft-grade aluminum construction, and are water, fog, and shock-resistant, with a hard anodized finish. Additional construction features include tactical-style turrets, laser-etched travel indicators, push-button illumination controls, and a single construction eyepiece. Optical features include XC high-density, low-dispersion glass, first focal plane reticle, glass-etched reticle, and illuminated reticle.

SHOT Show – Kel-Tec

Wednesday, January 20th, 2016

DSC07131

For SHOT, Kel-Tec revealed a new variation of the KSG shotgun. Dubbed the KSG-NR, this new shotgun features a reduced capacity of five 2 3/4″ shells in each tube plus one in the chamber, for a total capacity of 11, compared to the original KSG’s 15. You may be wondering what you get for this reduced capacity. Well, as the image above indicates, the railed forend has been replaced by a proprietary, integrated vertical grip / weapon light which has an output of 420 lumens, and is powered by CR123 batteries. The NR features the same 18.5″ barrel and 26.1″ overall length as the original KSG, in order to keep it legal; Kel-Tec was quick to mention the capability to take advantage of the reduced profile by shortening the barrel and turning it into an SBS, with a tax stamp, of course.

Kel-Tec reps at the booth said that the KSG-NR is available now.

SHOT Show – Elite Survival Systems

Wednesday, January 20th, 2016

Elite Survival Systems has introduced a line of concealed carry pouches that actually look like normal day-to-day bags. They are designed for guns in the G42/43 range.

The Marathon GunPack is actually useful for runners with 14 oz of water in flasks. It also has a nonslip back so it stays put.

I also like the Photo Ops GunPack which looks like a chest mounted camera pack.

SHOT Show – Downeast Innovations

Wednesday, January 20th, 2016

Downeast Innovations is a design house that has developed numerous products including the MOLLE frame and FASTMag. They showed us two new innovations that are coming soon.

This is the Gemini buckle which is made up of two symmetrical buckle components. It’s designed for heavy loads yet offers a light fingertip release. You can also squeeze the buckle to get it to release. While this is a prototype buckle, the molds are done and production buckles will be available within two weeks.

Next up is an upgrade to the PALS compatible attachment of the FASTMag. Its easier to use than the current version (bottom).
