Program Interface Module For Field Re-Programming of the HEL-STAR 6 & F2

The PIM-701 is a handheld, wireless device that allows military users to re-program the four functions of selected HEL-STAR 6 and F2 models in the field. The PIM itself is programmed through a USB connection to a Windows-based computer or laptop using software that is included with and downloaded from the PIM. Setting new functions in the PIM is handled through an easy to learn, image-oriented graphical user interface.

The PIM functions wirelessly through an infrared (IR) interface with the HEL-STAR over distances of a few feet. The PIM can either re-program any or all of the four factory-installed functions (the NEW PGM button), or to return the HEL-STAR to its original factory settings (the DEFAULT button). The HEL-STAR device provides visible or visible and vibratory confirmation of both program mode readiness and acceptance of the new program or default instructions. The PIM re-programming system provides various protocols and automatic time-outs to prevent inadvertent re-programming and
conserve battery capacity.

MultiCam Pattern Presents – The Baja 1000 Video

Documentary to Feature Former Special Operations Veteran and Baja 1000 Ironman Jeff Benrud

Brooklyn, NY – MultiCam, a division of Crye Precision’s camouflage pattern is designed for use in a wide range of conditions, has partnered with renown video production house, Foxhound Productions, to launch a documentary highlighting Team MultiCam member Jeff Benrud’s solo journey as he competed in the 48th SCORE International Baja 1000.

The video, set to launch February 2nd through MultiCam’s youtube channel, tells the story of Benrud’s third Baja 1000 run; with his previous two races having participated as part of a relay team on a dirt bike, this attempt was entirely on his own as a participant in the Ironman division.

Known as the longest point-to-point off-road desert race in North America, the Baja 1000 puts participants through a grueling pursuit, racing for close to 1000 miles through relentless terrain comprised of jagged rocks, loose sand, powdery silt beds, technical hill climbs and even more technical descents – not to mention livestock roaming freely. The Ironman division required riders to take on the burden of the entire race, on their own. No teammates, no rests.

Playing host to 250 competitors, seven in the Ironman class, in vehicles ranging from dirt bikes to high horsepower trophy trucks, participants found themselves managing the added element of danger amongst each other – most notably during the night stages, as the trucks would pass Benrud, at speeds of 120mph in some sections.

Benrud is an Army Special Operation veteran who teaches defensive and offensive driving capabilities to the military special operations community at American Offroad, with his business partner and off-road racing legend, Ricky Johnson (who can also be seen throughout the film). The combination of his military and off-road experience prepared him for the 821.38-mile course; in which he rode his #715x MultiCam® Alpine wrapped Honda CRF450x (which was auctioned off recently at the 2016 SHOT Show; with proceeds benefiting several Special Operations charities).

“There are few people who show as much fortitude, drive and overall conviction as Jeff. Our pride in being able to support him and his efforts is immeasurable,” stated MultiCam® Brand Manager, Ernesto Rodriguez. “Jeff is not only a hero to our country, but he is also one of the toughest men on the planet.”

The film highlights Benrud’s journey throughout the 25-hour race, and follows his emotional finish with blistered hands, a dirt caked face and his support team of his family and friends. Viewers will be taken alongside Benrud, leaving them feeling exhausted and excited as if they were there with him.

Coming Soon from Eastman Leather Company – The Escape A2

Tuesday, February 2nd, 2016

Eastman Re-Issue A-2 available in standard or ‘Escape’ Virgil Hilts spec.

Eastman Leather is releasing a reproduction of the “re-issue” version of the classic WWII A-2 leather jacket. It will also be available in the same configuration as worn by Steve McQueen in his portrayal of the “Cooler King” Capt Virgil Hilts, USAAF. It even has Captain’s bars under the collar!

Below is a description of what makes a “re-issue” A-2, written by Eastman Leather.

Post WWII thousands of A-2 jackets still remained in air depots and other bases. In order that these garments would give the best continued service they were treated with a reconditioning process which involved the re painting of the outer surface of the shell.

Experience had taught that the darker a garment was the more serviceable it would not show oil stains and soiling. Because the jackets were made from aniline finished hides which tend to absorb rather than repel they were re painted with a dark brown poly-acrylate dye, which provided an altogether tougher barrier. However it transpired that this over painting method whilst initially achieving its aim, very soon started to look shabby. The over paint would crisp and flake off. This disastrous technique effectively sealed the fate of the A-2 as unsightly jackets were quickly plucked from service.

A re-issue over painted A-2 (specifically a Rough Wear contract) was worn by Steve McQueen during the filming of The Great Escape, arguably one of the most iconic uses of an A-2 jacket in motion picture history.
