Friday, February 10th, 2017

FAYETTEVILLE, NC – February 9, 2017 – Fort Bragg and Fayetteville, NC will host the fourth annual All-American Marathon and “Mike-to-Mike” Half Marathon, on March 26th, 2017. Alongside these two popular races, the All-American Family 5K will also be offered. Each course has been certified by the USA Track and Field Association and the marathon portion is a qualifier for the Boston Marathon.

On race day, members of the military, wounded warriors, and runners from around the United States will begin their race near the Airborne Trooper Statue “Iron Mike” at the Airborne & Special Operations Museum. They will then pass through many scenic areas in the community before heading to Fort Bragg, where they run by the Iron Mike statue at the entrance to Fort Bragg.

Each run will be lined with flag-bearing spectators cheering on the runners. The Wear Blue Mile, which honors fallen service members, is noted as one of the most moving components of the race. The Wear Blue tributes will include “Faces of the Fallen” posters which will line the course as well as volunteers holding American Flags adorned with a streamer bearing the name of a fallen service member.

Arc’teryx Announces Withdrawal from Outdoor Retailer in Salt Lake City

Friday, February 10th, 2017

Earlier this week outdoor brand Patagonia announced that they will not participate in Outdoor Retailer markets held in Salt Lake City Utah due to the states opposition to the establishment of new national parks by the outgoing Obama administration. As you know from our coverage, OR consists of two seasonal markets which are the largest outdoor recreation tradeshows in North America.

Like Patagonia, Arc’teryx opposes Utah’s position on this matter. We expect more brands to withdraw from OR. In fact, OR itself has notified Salt Lake City of its desire to move the twice a year show to another venue outside of Utah.

Arc’teryx published the following statement on their corporate blog.

COMPANY FOLLOWS PATAGONIA’S MOVE AS PRESSURE BUILDS FOR UTAH’S GOVERNMENT TO SUPPORT PROTECTION OF PUBLIC LANDS AND PROTECT WILD SPACES

Arc’teryx, a company that has long supported preservation of wild spaces, formally announces today its withdrawal from Outdoor Retailer in Salt Lake City, Utah due to the state’s efforts to rescind protection of Bears Ears National Monument and other public lands. The company stands in support of Patagonia’s move to leave Outdoor Retailer in Utah and is following suit. Funds that would have been spent to attend Outdoor Retailer in 2017 will be reallocated to the Conservation Alliance’s new Public Lands Defense Fund.

“The Outdoor Industry has an obligation to protect the wild places that are important to our consumers. Arc’teryx is a member of the outdoor industry’s Conservation Alliance. Since 2014, we’ve been part of the efforts to protect Bears Ears, supporting local grassroots organizations working on a legislated solution. More recently Arc’teryx has helped to fund Friends of Cedar Mesa and Utah Dine Bike Yah, as they work on a national monument designation. I was proud to join my peers in the outdoor industry in sending a letter to President Obama asking him to protect this landscape in Southern Utah, which is cherished by our community of climbers, hikers and outdoors enthusiasts. Protecting public lands for future generations is a critical part of our brand values and we will use our influence in a way that is consistent with those values.” – Jon Hoerauf, president of Arc’teryx
On March 6thth Jon Hoerauf will head to Washington DC with the Conservation Alliance and 21 other outdoor industry leaders to meet with key Congressional offices and representatives of the new Administration. The goal of this trip is to encourage all elected officials, regardless of political affiliation, to take action to protect important lands and waterways – including Bears Ears National Monument.

Arc’teryx will also be increasing its funding commitment to the Conservation Alliance by $150,000 over the next three years to support the protection of Bears Ears and other public lands at risk.

TAPS In Stock and Ready to Order from TNVC & Unity Tactical

Thursday, February 9th, 2017

TNVC and Unity Tactical are very happy to announce the release of TAPS and TAPS PRO.

TAPS_1

For years the industry has struggled with standard pressure switches functionality and modularity. TAPS changes the way with think of pressure switches, and it now becomes a true component of a light and laser. No longer will the operator struggle to attach and maintain their pressure switch to a rail system, no longer will the operator wish he could power a white light and visible laser with one button. TAPS breaks through these long standing barrier’s with a paradigm shift to enable a pressure switch to do what it’s supposed to do; a complete one point command and control system for all weapon-mounted electronics.

TAPS_2

TAPS will be offered in 2 versions, TAPS PRO and TAPS.

TAPSPro Info Sheet

TAPS PRO will be a full programmable switch that mounts directly to any industry standard rail, including M1913 Picatinny, KEYMOD, M-LOK and will run off a single CR2032 battery for over 3000 “device-activating hours” (battery will last for years under normal operation tempo). The switch will operate in failsafe mode if the battery dies or is not present (this means it will work as a standard pressure switch until battery is replaced – user preferences will remain programmed). It features two onboard buttons and two accessory leads. TAPS comes standard with a Surefire Light lead and MIL-Standard / Crane Laser Lead that fits NATO standard lasers from Insight Technology, Steiner, B.E. Meyers, and others.

TAPS Info Sheet

TAPS (non-programmable) mounts directly to any industry standard rail, including M1913 Picatinny, KEYMOD, and M-LOK. No third party rail adapters are needed, keeping the weapon lighter and sleeker. It features two onboard buttons and two accessory leads. During our SHOT Show coverage we told you about SOTECH’s Recce Vest based on the item issued to the British SAS for decades and officially known as the Pack, Lightweight Combat. Now, their modernized version is available for order.

SOTECH presents a high ride vest that rides above gun belts / LBE Harnesses and over plate carriers.

GAOS – Long Ranger with Sights by Henry Arms

Thursday, February 9th, 2017

I know it’s odd to see a lever-action rifle on SSD but the new Long Ranger with Sights by Henry Arms caught my because of the callers it’s offered in; .223, .243 and .308, making it an interesting choice for those who own plenty of AR family rifles but are looking for something different which uses their already existing ammunition supply. It’s a solid gun at 7 lbs.

These lever-action rifles rifles feature American Walnut stocks and 20″ barrels. However, unlike most lever-actions, they are fed from a steel-bodied detachable magazine which is flush-fit (5-round capacity in .223, 4-round in .243 and .308) with a steel floorplate and a blackened steel release button on the right side of the receiver.

This image from Henry Arms gives you a better view of the rear sight.

GAOS – ModWall by Tactical Walls

Thursday, February 9th, 2017

Tactical Walls had a soft launch of their new firearm organizer system called ModWall at SHOT Show. Unfortunately, I missed it so I was quite pleased to catch up at the Great American Outdoor Show.

ModWall is manufactured from US-sourced HDPE which the CMC mill. Current models are custom width by production versions as 22″ x 48″ panels are coming Mid-March. Attachments fit into slots on the wall in a similar manner to sales displays in shops, allowing the owner to customize the layout of the ModWall panel.

Currently, they have Magazine-style attachments which allow storage using the magwell for AR10, AR15, AK and Double stack 9mm. Additionally, they’ve got Generic Rifle and Generic Shotgun mounts. There is also a combination Body and Helmet stand which attaches to ModWall. Finally, there is a Magnetic mount which will accept many firearms.
