Crimson Trace Celebrates 25 Year Anniversary

Friday, February 8th, 2019

(Wilsonville, OR)— Crimson Trace®, America’s leading laser sight manufacturer, began business in the backroom of a machine shop in 1994. It was a typical rainy Oregon day when founder Lew Danielson filled out and submitted the paperwork to launch the world’s premier laser sight manufacturer. In the days that followed, customers sent their GLOCK® pistols in for machining, wiring and installation of an embedded laser diode. Those laser sights continue to be serviced today—a strong commitment to the many loyal customers. Great customer service has been a cornerstone of business for Crimson Trace across the decades and years, and in 2019 those years in business equals 25—a quarter century.

The 25 years in business for Crimson Trace have seen many milestones, such as the release of the Lasergrips® laser sights for the popular 1911 pistols, and the LiNQ® wireless remote activation technology for laser sights and lights for MSR rifles. Crimson Trace also began the Free Batteries for Life program and introduced firearms owners to the patented Instinctive Activation™ laser sight engagement system. Laserguard®, Rail Master® and other laser sights have added to the numerous product lines the company offers to customers, including law enforcement and military units. The company added green laser diodes to numerous laser sights beginning in 2012. Recently, Crimson Trace added tactical lights, red dot sights and riflescopes to the growing product categories.

The 25 years at Crimson Trace have resulted in numerous prestigious recognitions, including a 2017 NRA American Rifleman Golden Bullseye Award for LiNQ, being noted as America’s Top Brand by Southwick Associates, several Academy of Excellence awards, many shooting sports industry awards and many patents for innovation and product designs. The company also sponsors many events in the shooting industry and launched the Midnight 3-Gun shooting competition in 2012. That all-night competition in the sandy desert required the use of laser sights and lights to complete the numerous shooting challenges.

In honor of 25 years of service to America’s firearms owners, in 2019 Crimson Trace is giving away numerous special firearms equipped with laser sights or tactical lights. These will be awarded each month in a special 25/25/25 drawing. Details are at www.crimsontrace.com.

Crimson Trace works with many firearms manufacturers in product designs and special product packages. Those manufacturers include Browning®, Kimber®, Remington®, Smith & Wesson®, and others. Many firearms manufacturers and retailers across America offer various firearms with Crimson Trace laser sights pre-installed.

Crimson Trace continues to lead the laser sight accessory category by offering products through 2,500+ dealers across America. The company’s products can be easily installed without requiring modification of the firearm —or special gunsmith skills. Brownells Becomes Title Sponsor for The 2019 Tactical Games

Thursday, February 7th, 2019

GRINNELL, Iowa (February 6, 2019) – Brownells is proud to announce its 2019 title sponsorship of The Tactical Games, a series of exciting “battles” designed to test America’s best warrior-athletes in a combination of two-gun shooting and military-style training, with elements of both Strongman and CrossFit® competitions mixed in.

The first two installments of The Tactical Games 2019 schedule are set for February 23 and 24 at the Merdian Public Safety Training Facility in Meridian, Mississippi, and Reveille Peak Ranch in Burnet, Texas, on March 16 and 17. More 2019 dates will be announced soon.

Former U.S. Army Green Beret Tim Burke co-founded The Tactical Games, bringing to bear his more than 21 years of experience in U.S. Special Operations as well as his career as the head of a law enforcement counter-terrorism unit.

“The Tactical Games provide an immediate, no-nonsense metric that either validates or challenges your training methods and conclusions.  It is the only sporting event of its type available for open enrollment,” said Burke. “If you work with or carry a gun for any reason, why wouldn’t you compete at The Tactical Games?”

Among athletes scheduled to compete this year are John “Tig” Tiegen who helped defend the American Consulate in Benghazi, Libya, and Tes Salb, well-known NRA editor, pistol instructor and pentathlete.

Both men and women are welcome to compete in The Tactical Games. Mens’ classes are broken down into Elite, Intermediate (based on PT scores) and Master (45 years of age and older). Currently, all women, regardless of age or PT score, compete in the women’s division.

Participants do not need to have a military or law enforcement background to enter, but should be in good physical condition and have a reasonable familiarity with firearms. To learn more or to sign up, visit www.thetacticalgames.com.

United States Army Selects Med-Eng to provide its 2nd Generation Advanced Bomb Suit to Protect Explosive Ordnance Disposal Teams

Thursday, February 7th, 2019

Major contract award demonstrates continued confidence in Med-Eng to successfully deliver Army programs

Supports highly-skilled manufacturing jobs in northern New York for up to four years

OGDENSBURG, New York – Med-Eng, LLC, a company of The Safariland Group, today announced it has been awarded a four-year Indefinite Delivery Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract to supply the United States Army with its 2nd generation Advanced Bomb Suit (ABS II) to protect the lives of front line soldiers conducting Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) operations. Program Executive Office (PEO) Soldier selected Med-Eng following a comprehensive and competitive process that evaluated protection levels, operational capabilities, human factors considerations and other requirements. Under the contract, which has a maximum value of $47 million, the Army may procure up to 1,641 Med-Eng® bomb suits during the four-year term.

“We are honored and very excited that the Army has re-affirmed its trust in Med-Eng to develop and provide proven solutions against blast threats, including Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs),” said Rob Reynolds, vice president and general manager, Med-Eng. “Selecting Med-Eng demonstrates PEO Soldier’s continued confidence in our ability to develop an integrated suit and helmet ensemble that will provide the protection, mobility, situational awareness and technical capabilities best enabling US Army EOD operators to successfully complete their missions on the battlefield.”

Med-Eng has been providing the Army with its current fleet of ABS bomb suits since 2002. The ABS II ensemble takes advantage of new protective materials and technologies that will directly benefit EOD teams, including significant weight reduction; improved protection against blast overpressure, fragmentation, impact and heat; voice-activation of all helmet features to keep the operator’s hands free; improved ventilation to mitigate heat stress; and a user-centric design to improve ergonomics and physical flexibility.

Fulfillment of the contract will support highly skilled manufacturing operations in Ogdensburg, New York, where Med-Eng currently produces bomb suits for all four branches of the U.S. Armed Forces, as well as for state and local law enforcement bomb squads, and are used across the United States and abroad.

Catoma- 300 Round M240 Pouch

Thursday, February 7th, 2019

I stopped by the NDIA SOLIC symposium in DC this week to hear a couple of the panels and ran into the guys from Catoma.

It’s a zippered Pouch with removable molded polymer insert which will accept a 300 round belt of 7.62mm.

The Pouch is part of their Switchblade Heavy Weapon’s Carriage System, currently under evaluation with the 82nd. Although the Switchblade MOLLE Panel will accept three of these pouches, It’s recommended to only use two due to ammunition weight.

The Pouch can also be used on its own to organize belts and features two D rings for use with a sling.

That flap on the right of the photo allows the gunner to fold the first few rounds of the belt over and hold them in place at the ready, so it’s quicker to get the belt into the gun.

Wilcox Industries Honors Ron Bellan

Thursday, February 7th, 2019

Retired SOCM Ron Bellan’s recent passing hit a lot of us like a ton of bricks. Our friends at Wilcox Industries have honored Ron by foying their flag half-staff. I’d like to encourage others in industry who worked with Ron over the years to do likewise.

“It is with a heavy heart that I have to announce the passing of Navy SEAL Master Chief Ron Bellan. Ron spent his life defending our country and the freedoms we have grown accustomed to. Reaching globally Ron served to protect the oppressed at any cost. Ron was a warrior amongst warriors, a teammate and personal friend. After retiring from serving his country Ron was instrumental in helping raise monies for non-profit organizations and helping veterans in any way he could. Ron unexpectedly passed peacefully in his home due to natural causes that stemmed from a recent surgery. In honor of Ron, the Wilcox HQ Flag will be flown at half-mast today. Please take a moment of your day to reflect on all the people past and present that have sacrificed for our freedom.”

God Bless Ron Bellan’s family and friends, and may he Rest In Peace

Very Respectfully

Dave Kent
