Kopis Mobile – FastForm Apps

KOPIS MOBILE INVENTS A TIME MACHINE

Well, it is not exactly like the one in Back To The Future. It won’t really transport you through time, but it will give you tons of time you never had. The warfighter has plenty of bullets, beans and boots, but what they don’t have enough of is time to deal with the ever-increasing mountain of administrative tasks on their plates.

Most senior officers think that because of digitization, their troops are getting more productive because of less paperwork. Actually the opposite is happening. Despite all of the digitization, they now have more paperwork than ever. Research conducted by the American Action Forum revealed a 47.8% increase in just the last 20 years alone.

Kopis is helping give time back to the warfighter with their family of FastForm Apps. Produced about a year ago, FastForm 1306 is a mobile system that significantly cuts down the time it takes to create jump manifests. It digitally manifests a jumper quickly and generates a 100% accurate jump manifest form for the jumpmaster. http://4ksolutions.com/4k-supports-paratroopers-at-fort-bragg/

The just released FastForm Readiness app is a time and money saver as well. It tracks individual warfighter’s medical, dental and OER/NCOER. The app provides senior leaders with instant notifications if a qualification is about to lapse or already has and creates the form DA Form 1379. Among its many features, it generates an email that can be sent to the warfighter notifying them what the deficiency is, how to fix it and what will happen if it is not taken care of. It can also create and send emails to chow halls and billeting offices to cancel reservations so charges aren’t incurred for not showing up, saving an organization thousand of dollars annually.

These two products, and all of Kopis’s other products for that matter, were created via their proprietary diagnostic system. Their engineers and SMEs spend a few days interviewing multiple levels of leadership in a military organization in order to discover what their pain points are. They then produce software and/or hardware that will help reduce inefficiencies and generate cost savings. With this approach, Kopis puts the warfighter at the center of their product development and gives them direct input into the products they ultimately end up with.

    Back up Iron Sights

I wanted to share my thoughts based on my experiences regarding back up iron sights. In short I think they are a solution to a problem that doesn’t exist and many shooters hinder their rifles capabilities just to have them on the gun.

I’ve spent a lot of time behind an M-4 or AR-15 in a lot of different environments, combat, competition, training etc., and have also done so in the company of many other shooters. In all that time I have not seen a primary optic fail and a back up iron sight become necessary. Not saying it can’t happen, but I haven’t seen it; here’s what I have seen: many shooters who have back up iron sights on their rifles hinder their ability to shoot the rifle well and operate the things they WILL use just to have BUIS on the rifle. Many shooters with magnified optics on the gun will have to mount the optic forward on the receiver because the rear BUIS is in the way. That causes a problem with eye relief and most shooters will collapse the stock to get the correct eye relief and view through their scope. Collapsed stocks are not a better way to shoot a rifle. I’ve written several articles and have several videos about the subject of shooting the RIFLE with the stock extended for better control.

The next problem is where to mount lights and lasers so that they are accessible and still have a front BUIS. It can be a challenge. If a shooter is going to work at night they WILL need the flashlight and or laser, they MIGHT (once again never seen it happen) need the BUIS. As a Green Beret and a shooter I made a decision based on experience to stop fighting with BUIS problems and I don’t run them on my rifles. I have found it much easier to operate the rifle with he stock extended and without the BUIS I can mount every magnified optic I’ve seen and have a shootable, maneuverable RIFLE and use the optic with the correct eye relief. I’ve also found that it is much easier mount all my lights and lasers in very usable positions on the rail without BUIS interference. These are my thoughts based on my experiences and observations. Think about these when you are setting up your rifle and hopefully you end up with a really shootable rifle!

Take a look at the attached pictures:

    Picture 006

The one on the ATV was my first SF deployment to Afghanistan. Based on the mission and I chose to run an ACOG over a red dot. You can tell in the pic that I had a rear BUIS on the rifle and had to mount the optic forward and collapse the stock; I also was just like other shooters and thought that the stock was supposed be collapsed because it was cool etc. I didn’t know enough about shooting then!

    101_0053 copy

The picture out in the desert was my last SF deployment to Iraq. You can see the stock is extended, the Elcan Spectre DR 1-4 was mounted all the way back and no BUIS. The Spectre DR was a great solution to everything I might encounter from working in urban areas to open terrain. You’ll also notice the rifle has a longer free float rail, a CMC trigger, more ergonomically correct pistol grip and some other items that offered increased performance and solid reliability. In the time between these 2 deployments I got involved in competitive shooting and learned a lot more about shooting and how to set up my gear to be more effective! You’ll notice I have plenty of room on the rail for my flashlight and laser to go anywhere I needed them to be. You’ll probably notice there’s not a laser currently on the rifle. My TTP was to keep my LA-5/PEQ15 (laaaaaaaser) and NODS together, when I put on NODS, I put on the LA-5/PEQ15. The LA-5 was super easy to zero without shooting also.

    IMG_8589

The other picture you see of how my current rifles are set shows continued development as a shooter. A common them is they all have variable power scopes either 1-4 or 1-6. I have found that I can do everything I can do with a red dot with a variable power scope on 1x but when targets get small, are at distance or are hard to see……the 4x or 6x really shines and a red dot can’t give you the same capability. My current philosophy is ;if I’m going to put an optic on my rifle and add weight and spend money, its’ going to be a 1- something variable optic. Well that’s all I’ve got for now, I hope you all enjoyed this article. Take care and I wish you the best in your shooting!

American Humane, Schultz Family Foundation, And NCR Foundation Create Guide That Helps Veterans In Need Obtain Service Dogs

    Thursday, August 11th, 2016

“Wags4Patriots™ Guide to Getting a PTS Service Dog” helps veterans suffering from post-traumatic stress and traumatic brain injury

WASHINGTON, D.C. –? American Humane, which has worked with the military for 100 years, today released a guide to help veterans suffering from post-traumatic stress (PTS) or traumatic brain injury (TBI) obtain service animals. The publication, whose creation was supported by the Schultz Family Foundation and the NCR Foundation, is called the “Wags4Patriots™ Guide to Getting a PTS Service Dog” andwill be made available free of charge to veteran groups across the country. It can also be downloaded at www.americanhumane.org/wags4patriots.

The guide was developed by American Humane’s experts based on interviews with American Humane service dog grantees, their family members, service dog agencies, mental health providers, dog trainers and veterinarians. Information in this guide will help set expectations for the service dog procurement process, as well as the cost and expense of owning a PTS service dog during its lifetime. Importantly, the guide will detail how to identify a credible PTS service dog agency.

“Every day, 184 veterans are diagnosed with post-traumatic stress (PTS), which make it difficult for them to adjust to life back on the home front,” said Dr. Robin Ganzert, American Humane’s president and CEO. “American Humane has long advocated that veterans suffering from the hidden wounds of war be provided with service dogs because we know these four-legged heroes can help save the lives of our human warriors after they return home from battle. Veterans with service dogs have reported improved sleep, decreased startle responses, and a decrease in the need for prescribed pain medication. The dogs help their handlers to live the lives they once did.”

For veterans struggling with PTS, the complex process of obtaining a service dog can be daunting. Having a guide to navigate the service dog procurement process is therefore invaluable and it can even shorten the time to secure a PTS dog.

“There’s no question that service dogs help veterans with post-traumatic stress or traumatic injuries,” said Elizabeth Willett, Sr. Program Officer, Onward Veterans. “Standardizing the process with this guide will help more of our returning military members get access to man’s (or woman’s) best friend.”

“The NCR Foundation is honored to be a part of this project,” said Yvonne Whitaker, Leader, The NCR Foundation. “It’s important to us to help level the playing field for individuals so they have the skills and tools to reach their goals. This program helps returning veterans feel safe and more fully participate in their lives both personally and professionally.”

To learn more or to support American Humane’s programs to help active-duty military members, military families, and military animals, visit www.americanhumane.org/military. To download a free copy of the guide please visit www.americanhumane.org/wags4patriots.

    SilencerCo – Harvested: Borderlands

    Thursday, August 11th, 2016

SilencerCo recently hunted aoudads with UFC Featherweight Fighter Chad Mendes, utilizing suppressed rifles and the assistance of expert guides. The full release can be read below:

    HARVESTED

    /?härv?st/

    verb

past tense: harvested; past participle: harvested

to catch or hunt (animals) for consumption and use

Hunting. It’s a tradition. It’s a challenge. It’s a way to provide. We don’t just understand this–we live it. Hunting is a part of our lives just as much as it is a part of yours.

During World War II, American soldiers stationed off the Barbary Coast of Northern Africa discovered a native sheep species, known as the aoudad. Recognizing their potential as a game animal, they shipped them to Texas; Aoudads quickly proved to be an extremely challenging hunt for multiple reasons. Their keen sense of smell, hearing, and alertness to danger, combined with their capability to retain water from sparse vegetation and survive long periods of time without it, gives them the ability to live in rugged, dry habitats that are often too harsh for other animals.

We had the rare opportunity to scout the high desert terrain with UFC® Featherweight Fighter Chad Mendes in search of this elusive creature. Equipped with silenced rifles and accompanied by expert guides, we set off to reconnect with the wilderness and harvest some challenging game.

    About Chad Mendes

Chad began wrestling at the age of five and continued the sport throughout high school and college until his competitive success led him to move to Sacramento and train with Team Alpha Male. Before turning pro, however, Mendes took home an impressive list of ranks and titles, including two-time PAC-10 Champ, two-time D-I NCAA All-American, and a second-degree black belt in wrestling. Now, after less than three years of professional fighting, Mendes has also earned seven wins by way of knockout, two wins by submission, a record of 4-0 in WEC with wins over Javier Vazquez, Cub Swanson, Anthony Morrison, and Erik Koch, and he has won six of his last nine fights. Mendes most recently founded Finz and Featherz, a hunting and guide service.
