ARC’TERYX, the technical leader in outdoor performance apparel and equipment, is proud to announce it has expanded its collection of educational mountain-skills symposiums to include the new ARC’TERYX Backcountry Ski & Snowboard Academy, scheduled to be held February 9- 11, 2018 in Jackson Hole, Wyoming.

Created to support mountain skills development, experience and self-sufficiency in the mountains, ARC’TERYX Academies aim to create a space where beginners and experts alike can gain valuable knowledge through professionally-guided clinics, educational seminars, and shared experiences in the ultimate alpine environment.

Hosted with the support of Exum Mountain Guides, the oldest guide service in North America, the upcoming ARC’TERYX Backcountry Academy will provide a weekend-long curriculum with specific focus on technical ski alpinism, efficient winter mobility, crevasse rescue/rope work, critical mountain skills and important backcountry safety for skiers and splitboarders.

“We’re really excited to add a new backcountry component to the growing ARC’TERYX Academy franchise. Backcountry skiing and snowboarding runs deep in our DNA and our commitment to it has played a large role in our design heritage.” said Justin Sweeny, North American Sports Marketing Manager. “We chose Jackson Hole and the Grand Teton Mountain Range for its steep technical terrain, deep snow, and its elevated skiing and snowboarding environment. Add to that our new partnership with Exum Mountain Guides and the choice became obvious to offer a weekend of backcountry clinics that will continue to drive our community as a collective group of skiers and riders to advance our mountain skills.”

The event expects to draw hundreds of backcountry skiers and splitboarders from across the globe to climb and ride legendary routes in Jackson Hole and Grand Teton National Park, while also providing attendees with extra-curricular activities to compliment the weekend.

“We’re thrilled to feature an incredibly strong lineup of backcountry ski and splitboard clinics, keynote speakers, live music, movie nights, photo contests, and even a mini trade fair for the inaugural ARC’TERYX Backcountry Academy,” Sweeny said. “Taking everything we’ve learned from producing the ARC’TERYX Alpine and Climbing Academies over the past decade, this is going to be an incredible experience with a great weekend of camaraderie, education and adventure in the Tetons.”

Arc’teryx LEAF Reception in Washington, DC

Tuesday, October 10th, 2017

Visitors to the Arc’teryx brand store at 11th and H ran into this sign on the door yesterday.

That’s because Arc’teryx took advantage of the international participation in AUSA’s Annual Meeting and Exposition by hosting a LEAF reception at the Washington DC store last night.

In addition to some great food, it was an excellent opportunity to get members of the user community together with Arc’teryx personnel and representatives of the supply chain.

A few door prizes were given away by the store and a fundraiser was also held on behalf of the Special Operations Care Fund with Raffle prizes donated by Arc’teryx and Velocity Systems.

I’d like to thank the Arc’teryx LEAF team for hosting, as well as the Washington, DC Arc’teryx store staff for their hard work.

On a final note, one person was missed at last night’s event and that’s the lady who put it all together. Thanks Jo Salamon! Hopefully, this will become an annual event and Jo will be there with the rest of us.

Arc’teryx Issues Recall Of Their Procline Ski Boots

Thursday, August 24th, 2017

In cooperation with Health Canada and the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Arc’teryx has issued a recall of their Fall 2016, Procline Ski Boots. You can read the recall notice here.

In a small number of boots, the axis pin has dislodged which could cause the skier to lose control or fall and suffer injuries. All 2016 Procline Boots will be repaired to secure the axis pin and allow the boot to function as designed.

All of the Arc’teryx Fall 2017 Procline boot production now includes the redesigned axis pin. While there have been no injuries reported involving any Procline Ski Boots, our commitment to our users’ safety leads us to issue this recall to make the required axis pin repair.

If you own any Procline Ski Boots, we request that you visit recall.arcteryx.com for more information and instructions on how to return your boot free of charge for the required repair.

The website recall.arcteryx.com also offers an extensive FAQ page where most of your questions can be answered.

Innovation and quality are foundational building blocks of our Brand’s design culture. We wish you to know that over our 25+ year history of making climbing equipment we have been, and remain; committed to creating products that enable consumers to move safely in the mountains.

Arc’teryx Norvan 14 Assault Hydration Vest

Wednesday, August 23rd, 2017

Designed for use as a runner vest, complete with a built-in, roll-top pack, the Norvan 14 Hydration Vest from Arc’teryx will debut in Spring 2018. It weighs just 415 g / 14.6 oz and is made from Warpknit mesh. The vest integrates mesh pockets which keep your gear secure, yet allow one handed access. Additionally, it comes with a 2 liter Source Hydration bladder and features adjustable straps to keep your load under control.

Officially, it’s called the Norvan 14 Hydration Vest, but no sooner did I get it out of the packaging than I realized the two front mesh pockets would accept magazines. Consequently, I’m calling it the Norvan 14 Assault Vest, due to its Black color, the standard color for assault vests up through the 1990s.

Remember, these mesh pockets were intended for soft flasks or GPS devices, but I found that I could fit a single 30 rd AR mag or 2 x 30 rd MP5 magazines in either pocket.

Here you can see the roll-top detail of the 14 liter integrated pack. It’s not waterproof, but rather highly water resistant.

Look for the Norvan 14 next Spring.
