5.11 Tactical Tac Tec Plate Carrier

Friday, November 29th, 2013

The Tac Tec Plate Carrier from 5.11 Tactical has been around for awhile now but we thought you might be interested in this video.

I’m well known as a “tactical snob” but I have to admit, 5.11 surprised me and has integrated quite a few features into this design and they’ve done it by doing it their own way. The project to create this carrier started a few years ago. Right up front, I’ll tell you I don’t own one and I don’t know what armor it is meant to accommodate. It is a one size fits all affair and will accommodate up to 10″x13″ plates. Also, it does not accommodate side plates. But, extendable drag handle intrigues me as it will allow the rescuer to stay more upright if not more agile while dragging the victim. I also like the bungee-style cummerbund to help accommodate additional sizes.

Available in Black, Sandstone and Tac OD.

COBRA HALO Buckle from AustriAlpin and Bushido Tactical

Wednesday, November 27th, 2013

ITUS Vest

Bushido Tactical collaborates with renowned COBRA® buckle manufacturer, AustriAlpin to manufacture the patent pending Bushido Tactical COBRA®® HALO™ quick release buckles.

HALO™ – Heavy Duty, Aluminum, Low Profile, Operator buckle comes in three versions HALO1, HALO2, HALO3 – two versions currently used to eliminate the front Velcro panel fastener commonly seen in traditional tactical nylon vest and plate carriers.

“We started manufacturing newly improved plate carriers (Guardian & Sentinel) and tactical vest (Itus), including a retro-fit cummerbund utilizing our innovative HALO™ buckles at the requests of many law enforcement officers and operators who were tired of the antiquated system using front Velcro panels. They wanted an easier faster way to get in and out of their plate carriers without having to remove magazines and fumbling with the Velcro flap.”
– Wade Rorich, Operating Manager of Bushido Tactical, LLC.

The HALO™’s slim “H” design helps retain maximum armor protection eradicating any possible gaps, which could compromise the operator’s safety. Bushido Tactical nylon gear incorporating the HALO™™ buckles available December 2013.

Features:
• Solid, lightweight aluminum construction
• Slim “H” design
• Quick release buckle utilizing the COBRA® buckle locking mechanism
• Patent Pending HALO2 and HALO3 versions offered
• MOLLE compatible HALO3 buckle
• Available in Matte Black and Coyote Brown

DSM Dyneema Launches Dyneema Force Multiplier Technology For Life Protection, Combining Ultimate Performance And Usability In One Material

Sunday, November 24th, 2013

Fusion of science, technology and engineering yields a revolutionary solution for hard and soft ballistic armor

Paris, 19 November 2013 – DSM Dyneema, the manufacturer of ultra high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMwPE) fiber, branded as Dyneema, and world leader in life protection materials and high performance fibers, today officially introduced Dyneema Force Multiplier Technology, built on its Radical Innovation platform, the company’s newest product development program. Dyneema Force Multiplier Technology combines breakthroughs in polymer science, next-generation fiber technology and unique uni-directional engineering to deliver up to 25 percent higher ballistic protection while reducing weight by up to 20 percent. Here at Milipol 2013, three companies – Rheinmetall Ballistic Protection GmbH, Point Blank Enterprises and TenCate Advanced Armour – are exhibiting applications that feature the first Dyneema Force Multiplier Technology products. These initial applications demonstrate the exceptional capabilities of this new technology and set the stage for future innovations in soft and hard ballistic protection. All Dyneema Force Multiplier Technology products are manufactured at the DSM Dyneema facility in Greenville, N.C.

“We have eliminated the traditional compromise between higher protection and lower weight, enabling armor manufacturers to meet tomorrow’s threats and design challenges,” said Shitij Chabba, Global Segment Director, Life Protection, DSM Dyneema. “With off-the-chart ballistic performance combined with the lightest weight and lowest profile ever demonstrated, Dyneema® Force Multiplier Technology will define future standards in life protection, including soldier modernization. This dramatically different technology is not just the first deliverable from our Radical Innovation initiative, it’s also a clear demonstration of our ongoing commitment to saving lives.”

DSM Dyneema views adoption of next-generation material technologies as critical in addressing major law enforcement and military trends that are intensifying the need to reduce the weight of protective gear. Dyneema Force Multiplier Technology delivers benefits of significantly lighter weight – enhanced comfort and flexibility for people and greater range, agility and capacity for vehicles – while providing extreme ballistic performance.

The new products based on Dyneema Force Multiplier Technology can be used to design personal protection (vests, inserts, helmets, soft armor applications and extremity protection) and vehicle armor. Additional products based on this technology are planned.

Dedicated to Innovation

DSM Dyneema has two unique paths for providing the best protection to law enforcement and the military. Radical Innovations are major breakthrough products that leap over the highest-performance solutions and create new standards in performance. Micro Innovations enhance the DSM Dyneema product portfolio with incremental improvements that help manufacturers and designers quickly respond to tenders and specifications from their customers with innovative solutions that meet every budget need.

Blast From The Past – The Latest MultiCam Knockoff

Thursday, November 7th, 2013

We’ve had a few incredulous readers contact us with doubts that the Army would actually alter the OCP/MultiCam pattern on their own so we thought it best to share this blast from the past. We broke this story on March 25th, 2011.

MultiCam was developed by Crye Precision and is currently one of the most popular camouflage patterns on the market. It’s been adopted by numerous countries including the US, UK, and Australia. Consequently, we run across MultiCam knockoffs all of the time. Readers send them to us often asking if they are authentic or not. In fact, we received one yesterday that really caught our eye. Generally, copycat patterns are intended for the MilSim or consumer markets which are often more driven by price than performance. But this one was different. It was developed by the US Army and oddly enough, for much the same reasons. Intended as a cost savings measure and yet still be MultiCam compatible, we’re not too sure they have succeeded at either goal. Take a look, and you’ll see what we mean.

AUSA – Revision

Monday, October 21st, 2013

20131021-142947.jpg

We stopped by Revision and they showed us a couple of technologies that they are adapting for use in USSOCOM’s TALOS (Tactical Assault Lightweight Operator Suit) program. The Prowler was developed with Canadian firm B-tema and serves as a lower extremity enhancement exoskeleton. Revision is also working to offer armor panels for the Prowler that will protect the legs and in particular the femoral artery from threats.

“Revision is committed to developing next generation Soldier protection. Two key technology programs that were launched at AUSA this year are the ‘Advanced Head Protection System (AHPS),’ and the ‘Prowler Human Augmentation,’ system.

The AHPS is a rifle round stopping helmet, with full maxillo facial protection, integrated electronics, integrated heads up display to Android, and pneumatic liner system that meets the new 14.1 fps impact requirement. The AHPS was developed in concert with the US Army Labs Natick.

The Prowler, is Revision’s Human Augmentation device. It increases a soldiers metabolic reserve while preventing short and long term injuries. The Prowler allows our soldiers to be more lethal on the objective while increasing deployability through reduced injury. The Prowler, has been tested by SOCOM and CANSOFCOM, and is under contract with the US Army Labs Natick. Shown to provide a 33% mechanical advantage, the Prowler proves to be the next human augmentation system.

Both systems are continuing to be innovated in support of several DoD and international programs as well as SOCOM’s TALOS program.”

Revision also showed us their .30 protective helmet solution that was originally developed for the US Army but is being adapted to the TALOS requirement. The Advanced Head Protection System will incorporate a .30 protective mandible and visor as well as the pneumatic, adjustable padding system and dual ratchet-style adjustment already available from Revision.
