Tuesday, March 15th, 2016

STABILicers are American made tarction decices that are worn attached to the soles of your footwear.  This is the Hike XP model.

The Hike XP incorporates their SureFit™ binding system and contoured insole provide a secure fit. These are a great option for those wearing commercial hiking boots in icy and other slippery conditions. Made from a Lightweight Thermo Plastic Elastomer that remains pliable in cold weather, they also incorporate replaceable cleats.

While the model I’ve shown is for use with hiking boots, several models will fit military footwear.

Garmont T8 Boots In Khaki – While Supplies Last from Extreme Outfitters

Wednesday, March 9th, 2016

Available while supplies last is the Garmont Tactical series in Khaki. This color variation stems from the light colored split-grained leather with a darker DD diamesh and heel retention straps. Although these boots are NOT AR 670-1 compliant they still offer the same quality and comfort you know and love from the Garmont T8 series.

The Garmont Tactical T8 boot is unlike any other pair of boots you will ever wear. Starting from the ground up, the Bifida and Extreme versions are equipped with a Super Vibram sole for maximum traction and stability and maximum shock reduction in nearly all environments or surfaces. Next the T8 is constructed with a tapered nylon woven foot board, on top of that is a custom designed insole. The boot utilizes a foot bed cup system that makes the boot work with the rest of your body providing awesome stability reducing the amount of stress on the ankles and knees. The entry way is constructed with a swept back concept to allow a snug, comfortable, fully supported fit without all the unnecessary padding. The upper is constructed with abrasion resistant split grain leather combined with DD diamesh for excellent breathing and ventilation. Zero optical refraction hardware along with roller bearing and hook less rigging proof hardware makes the T8 operate flawlessly in all operating environments whether it be ground or airborne operations. The foot bed cup system combined with heel retention strapping system allows for maximum stability and support in nearly all conditions and environments.

The Garmont T8’s lightweight, rugged and durable construction allows these boots to perform amazingly in all conditions. The T8 performs well and dries out rapidly should you work in an amphibious environment or an extremely wet climate. This boot was designed for and is dedicated to the hundreds of thousands of professionals who defend our great nation. The Extreme version offers the same stability with the addition of 200G Thinsulate insulation for colder climates. The NFS is an even lighter weight boot made with a feather light sole when reduced weight is paramount.

These boots are available in Khaki in all three styles: T8 Jungle, T8 NFS and T8 Extreme, and priced to sell at $114.99. Available at Extreme Outfitters while supplies last.

Hoka One One – Tor Ultra Hi WP in Oxford Tan

Thursday, February 4th, 2016

SSD friend Jon C ran across these TOR Ultra Hi WP in Oxford Tan from Hoka One One at Riverjacks in Southern Pines, near Fort Bragg. I’d seen them before at outdoor shops but they had this crazy flame paintjob which sent me running. The brand didn’t present itself as “tactical” so these were quite a surprise.

The TOR ULtra Hi WP incorprates this ultra thick Vibram MegaGrip outsole rubber combines with a midsole blend of EVA and RMAT material. Their design utilizes the Meta-Rocker geometry in the midsole which they say encourage forward movement. The upper is leather and nylon with eVent waterproofing.

Here’s a shot of the tread.

The boot is also offered in Black as well as civilian color schemes.

Post SHOT Show Wrapup – Lowa Task Force

Thursday, January 28th, 2016

Lowa Task Force had a couple of things worth checking out. First up were these samples of the Innox Evo (Non-Gore-Tex) in tactical colors. They are from Lowa’s commercial line (in different colors), but they had them at the show to gage interest.

Seen here are the Z-8S GTX and the Zephyr High GTX. While the color is a bit washed out due to the lighting, Lowa has introduced two models in Coyote-OP for wear with US uniforms. As there is already a Coyote color in the Task Force line, the new US color is Coyote-OP.

Rangers vs. Sharks: Combat Flip Flops Heads Into The Shark Tank Friday, February 5th

Saturday, January 23rd, 2016

email-sig_1

Issaquah, WA – After nearly four years of crushing the multiple roadblocks to manufacturing peace through trade while simultaneously creating economic solutions for those affected by conflict, Combat Flip Flops is ready for its next mission—swimming with the sharks on ABC’s Shark Tank.

Get ready for a wild ride when Griff & Lee, two of Combat Flip Flops’ owners and former Army Rangers, enter the tank. Think you’ve seen drama in the tank before? Think you know how it’s going to end? Watch Friday, February 5th at 9 PM EST on ABC as Griff & Lee show the Sharks that manufacturing in war zones can do good and be profitable.

“We’re stoked to bring the Combat Flip Flops mission to the tank,” said Matthew ‘Griff’ Griffin, Combat Flip Flops’ CEO & co-founder. Every Shark has the ability to expand the mission, inspire new recruits to join the Unarmed Forces, and manufacture peace through trade. Over the past few years, we’ve survived deadly encounters to create an opportunity like this. Attack Dogs. Raging Bulls. If we need to jump in the water with Sharks, then it’s time to grab the mask and fins.”

“We’ve all seen and heard Shark Tank success stories,” said Donald Lee, Combat Flip Flops’ CMO & co-founder. “We set our minds to getting on the show and in true Ranger fashion, we accomplished the objective. We hope this is the catalyst our company needs to provide large scale, peaceful, sustainable change in areas of conflict.”

In 2015, Combat Flip Flops’ sales increased 150% over 2014 while the company donated over 60 years of school to Afghan girls and cleared 1533 square meters of land mines in Laos, keeping kids and all villagers safer. Through its Unarmed Forces, the brand has spread stoke and empowered mindful consumers to make a difference.
