Sunday, October 22nd, 2017

Prometheus Design Werx is continuing the rollout of their new Fall/ Winter products with the addition of the AG Shemaghs and AG Watch Cap made from cashmere. Don’t let the choice of material fool you. Their cashmere combines great insulation properties combined with next to skin softness.

The Heather Charcoal Gray (Shemagh) and Black (Watch Cap) will be offered on October 25, 2017. The other colors will be released in pairs the following two weeks with the DRB Editions last.

Yes, that’s the geometric Camo pattern Patrick has been teasing since his TAD days. Hopefully, we’ll be seeing more products in it.

All Skill No Luck Wants Your Opinion On Green Flannel

Friday, October 20th, 2017

Last weekend, All Skill No Luck’s Flannel Combat Shirts went viral. Their Red and Ocean colors immediately sold out and they started getting requests for Green. In response, they created this rendering.

8872B707-F823-4163-AEB2-7F54E50469FD

They can do it, but it will be a special run with a 1000 yard minimum from the mill, which works out to a half ton in weight, thousands of dollars in fabric and who knows how much in shipping. That also means that they will need to sell 350 flannels making it a pre-order item.

I’ll throw in one piece of feedback with this article. Right now they are using Fruit of the Loom 100% cotton T-shirts as the base. There are a lot better choices of fabric out there. With the new color, it’s time to consider a new base fabric.

US Army Improved Hot Weather Combat Uniform

Thursday, October 19th, 2017

If you’re a Soldier, a new jungle uniform is in your future. The Army has developed an Improved Hot Weather Combat Uniform (IHWCU) for use in hot-wet environments and is working to put it into production.

The two-piece ensemble consists of a Coat and Trouser printed in the Operational Camoufiage Pattern. So far, prototypes have been made from Invista’s Cordura NYCO fabric, a 57/43 blend, which is lighter, faster drying and more breathble than the ACU’s 50/50 NYCO. However, other fabrics are currently under evaluation.

-covered fly with a four (4) button/ buttonhole closure, or three (3) button/buttonhole closure, depending on size
-seven (7) belt loops
-two (2) side hanging pockets
-two (2) front side pleated cargo pockets with three (3) button/ two (2) buttonhole closure flaps
-high end of cargo pockets at front of pocket rather than rear like ACU
-two (2) lower leg side pockets with one (1) button/ one (1) buttonhole closure flaps
-side cargo pockets shall have three (3) sewn-in eyelets hidden by the bellows
-double needle seat patch and a pleated knee reinforcement incorporated into the pant leg at the knee
-one (1) piece single gusset
-two (2) front side hanging pockets

Right now, Natick has issued an RFI to industry in order to identify manufacturers for up to 150,000 sets of the new uniform. However, that number could drastically increase depending on whether the Army decides to make the IHWCU an optional wear item or solely Organizational Clothing & Individual Equipment (OCIE) issue.

CANSOFCOM Seeks New Uniforms

Wednesday, October 18th, 2017

There lots of money being pumped into updating the clothing used by CANSOFCOM. First, we mentioned the new Distinctive Environmental Uniform unveiled during CANSEC. It is a dress uniform based on the Pinks and Greens worn by members of the World War Two-era Devil’s Brigade, a combined commando unit made up of American and Canadian troops.

Then, back in August we reported on the Advanced Special Operations Forces Combat Uniform. In September, Public Works and Government Services Canada released a tender for a two-piece FR Flight Suit in MultiCam for SOF aircrews. But their latest requirement may be the most interesting. Issued on October 2nd, the tender seeks manufacturers for Special Operations Forces Distinctive Service Uniform (SDSU). Essentially, they want MultiCam variants of the standard Canadian combat clothing called the Enhanced Combat Uniform, which normally features the CADPAT print. If the name means anything, these will likely be worn as garrison uniforms while the Advanced SOF Combat Uniforms will be used in combat as well as during combat focused training.  The SDSU will help tie the command to the Canadian Forces, yet offer them their distinctive use of the MultiCam pattern.  These will likely supplant the Peerless Garment manufactured uniforms, currently worn in garrison by members of the command and also be worn at service schools.

The tender seeks bids for SDSUs manufactured in both the 50/50 NYCO used in American uniforms as well as a 100% Nylon fabric. There is also a placeholder in the solicitation for a DND supplied fabric. Below are drawings of the ECU uniform cut.

All of this is in the heals of a procurement of new cold weather clothing, issued last year.

CANSOFCOM is considered the fourth Canadian Armed Forces environment; essentially, a service unto itself. Despite cuts to the Canadian Department of National Defense, the command looks to add over 600 new personnel in the near future, along with an increase of $1.5 billion to their budget over the coming years.

To summarise, once this all done, CANSOFCOM will have their own versions of Dress Uniform (DEU), Garrison Uniform (DSU), Combat Uniform (ACU) Flight Suit and Environmental Ensemble.
