Huron Combat Cold Weather Uniform Jacket and Pant

Thursday, November 10th, 2016

TYR Tactical has just released the Huron Combat Cold Weather Uniform which consists of Jacket and Pant. Throughout the design process they focused on developing a system that provides comfort, durability, and weather protection. The end result was a “go anywhere, do anything” garment that your gear closet has been missing.

Huron Combat Cold Weather Uniform Jacket

The Huron™ Combat Cold Weather Uniform Jacket (HRN-CWU105-T) is an ultra-light, packable soft shell jacket that provides ample protection from wind and light rain.

The Jacket is a full front zip, six pocket design, built with additional space to allow layering when temps drop below freezing. There are two hand pockets, two chest pockets, and two upper arm pockets, that provide plenty storage for small items. Additionally, they can be opened when needed, to vent excess heat during times of high exertion. The uniform is also treated with a DWR (durable water repellent) finish.

Special Features:
They have incorporated ventilation points on several areas of the uniform. The use of poly mesh on the front breast pockets and lower hand pocket allow for air to pass through the garment during both static and active situations.

Additional Features:
• Two Breast Pockets with Ventilation (Zipper Closure)
• Two Lower Hand Pockets with Ventilation (Zipper Closure)
• Two Sleeve Pockets (Zipper Closure)
• DWR treated for water repellency
• Designed to work in-conjunction with the Huron® Combat Cold Weather Uniform Pant (Sold Separately)
• Sizes: Small-2XLarge

Huron Combat Cold Weather Uniform Pant

The Huron™ Combat Cold Weather Uniform Pant (HRN-CWU105-P) is an ultra-light, packable soft shell pant that provides ample protection from wind and light rain.

The Pants combine 2-Way Stretch Softshell material and a 4-Way Stretch Tweave for comfort and durability. They offer two front slash pockets, two rear zippered pockets, and two zippered cargo pockets. The wide waistband has large belt loops to accommodate belt’s up to 2” in height, a button fly, and a Velcro® front closure. The knees are double layered Tweave for both stretch and durability. They incorporate a pocket for inserting knee pads if preferred. Similar in design to our popular Huron™ Hot Weather Uniform, the pants use 4-Way Stretch in key areas that allow for complete freedom of movement. The uniform is also treated with a DWR (durable water repellent) finish.

Additional Features:
• Groin, waist band and knees incorporate 4-way stretch tweave for added range of motion, comfort, and abrasion resistance
• Universal Knee Pad Pockets
• Knee Cinching Tabs
• Two Rear low profile slash pockets (Zipper Closure)
• Two Cargo Pockets. Low profile design allows the pockets to lay flat when not in use. (Zipper Closure)
• Bar Button and Velcro® fly closure
• Boot cuff drawstring adjustment
• Designed to work in-conjunction with the Huron® Combat Cold Weather Uniform Jacket (Sold Separately)
• Sizes: 28R -40R

UF PRO – Monsoon Rain Shirt

    Friday, November 4th, 2016

The ultimate weather protection jacket underneath your body armour or chest rig.

Trzin, 4.11.2016 UF PRO introduced today a new addition to their Monsoon waterproof range- the new Monsoon Rain Shirt.

The lightweight, low bulk Monsoon Rain Shirt is specifically designed to be worn underneath the body armour, chest rig or other additional gear. It’s made out of a special laminate mix, which makes the jacket thin, breathable and
lightweight where it is covered with gear and very robust and extra durable wherever it is not.

Exposed areas, like shoulders, lower back and sleeves are made out of a robust and durable 3-layer laminate. The rest of the jacket is made out of an extremely lightweight and low bulk 2.5-layer laminate. Both laminates are based on a super breathable and reliably waterproof high-tech membrane. For better wear comfort and reduced risk of secondary fragments underneath the body armour, there are no pockets or zipper pullers in the torso area.

In order to avoid the formation of so called “thermal bridges“ between your skin and the outside air, the Monsoon Rain Shirt has built-in air/pac inserts in the shoulder area. These 8mm thick mesh inserts give you the necessary insulation between your skin and the outside temperature and thus prevent cold air to transfer from the outside to your skin. Due to their 3D foamy structure, the air/pac inserts also distribute the weight of plate carriers or backpacks.

For an unhindered vision and an uncompromised hearing, the jacket has a special integrated hood system called the Hood/Harness. The harness comfortably connects your head to the hood and thus flawlessly follows your head movements, allowing you unhindered vision in extreme weather conditions.

And since there is no strapping needed, the space between your head and the laminate is kept, which keeps the air circulation and doesn’t limit your hearing.

The Monsoon Rain Shirt is available in Brown Grey and in PenCott GreenZone.

    Nordic Combat Uniform System

    Friday, November 4th, 2016

The Nordic Combat Uniform system (NCU) is a cooperation among Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden with the goal of procuring a combat uniform system with accessories.  It is intended as an all service (army, navy, air force, home guard and special forces) combat uniform system for male and female soldiers. It is an inner to outer combat uniform system (from head to toe), which is functional in worldwide operations.

The concept is to come up with a multi-layer combat uniform system which is functional in arctic, tropical and arid environments.  While a common Nordic camouflage pattern has been looked at, it is not a component of NCU at this time.  Consequently, any NCU components will be procured by the various countries in their national patterns.

    NCU should provide:
    – Improved combat endurance for the Soldier
    – Improved protection from environmental and other indirect threats
    – Improved modularity and flexibility
    – Reduced overall weight and volume over legacy systems

    NCU will replace:
    – Light and heavy field uniform in Woodland/MultiCam patterns
    – Light arod and tropical uniforms
    – Shell garments in Woodland/MultiCam and Arid patterns
    – Insulation jacket/trousers
    – Under Armor (Combat) Shirt in Woodland and Arid patterns
    – Winter Camouflage uniform (overwhites)
    – Base and Mid layer clothing

NCU will also determine whether hand and footwear should be rolled into the program.

Although the initial concept goes back to 2011, the program is currently underway with selection of candidiate items coming soon along with Developmental and Operational Testing. The program hopes to begin fielding by 2019.

To keep tabs on the program, visit www.nordefco.org/ncu.

    Massif – Caldera Windshirt

    Friday, November 4th, 2016

The Caldera Windshirt from Massif is an FR performance garment unlike anything else on the market. I’ve had one for several months. While it was a bit much for me during Virginia’s humid summers, now that Fall has arrived, it is an excellent garment. Don’t get me wrong, it’s surprisingly breathable, but this isn’t the kind of thing I’d wear during oppressive humidity. This is a studio shot of the Caldera Windshirt, but it shows how it is cut. It can be worn as an outer layer, or by itself.

The Caldera Wind Shirt is constructed from two different Massif fabrics.

The Battleskin fabric is used for the torso. It is durable, yet breathable and FR. Their SABA fabric used for the sleeves and upper chest, is a revolutionary new two-layer laminate system that combines proprietary FR processes with unique knit structures. Massif’s SABA fabric is lightweight, has extremely high breathability, and an advanced Durable Water Repellent (DWR) treatment, making it perfect for under armor applications and advanced layering systems. The proprietary knitted nylon face has an extremely smooth hand, adding to its next-to-skin comfort and enabling quiet operation.

The Caldera Windshirt has a similar construction to the Army Combat Shirt and can be worn with lightweight base layers, mid-weight base layers, or as a stand-alone garment for year round use.

It has a 1/4 Zip neck allows for easy donning and doffing, along with easy ventilation.

I like the flat seams used on the shoulders which cut down on chaffing.

In addition to internal mesh elbow pad pockets, the Caldera features shoulder pockets with mesh backers for ventilation, a pen pocket on the left forearm and adjustable wrist cuffs.

Finally, there are elastic thumb loops inside the cuffs. These stay out of the way, if you’re not using them.

    Offered in MultiCam, sizes XS-XXXL.

Ask SSD – Arc’teryx LEAF Cold WX Jacket and Pants SV Temp Range

    Tuesday, November 1st, 2016

Recently, after we mentioned the latest Cold Weather ensemble from Arc’teryx LEAF, we were asked, “What Is The Intended Temp Range For The Arc’teryx LEAF Cold WX Jacket and Pants SV?”

The answer is from -20C/-04F down to -40C/-40F, so you’re looking at some seriously cold temperatures.

We also got a question, asking if the fit block in the torso is large enough to wear over kit. According to Arc’teryx, the amswer is “No.” It’s designed to be worn with overwhites, if required tactically, and with external LCE as you can see in this CSOR photo.
