Bergans is introducing a new boot for cold wet conditions.

IMG_7267-0.jpg

Unfortunately, they are so new, we don’t have many details yet. Made from New Zealand leather with few seams and is completely waterproof. It is also the first boot made with Dermizax, an “active” membrane making it highly breathable. Dermazix isn’t a microporous membrane but rather wicks mositure away. The three layer sole system consisting of a proprietary grippy non-slip outsole, an aluminum plate in the midsole for stability and an inner sole subsystem with two options. The first is an anti-bacterial insole as well as an insulated insole. They can be used alone or together. The lower boot features a wide rubber rand to protect it from Norway’s rocky terrain.

In addition to this high leg variant, there is a lower trekking version as well as similar Hunting models.

DSEI – SAS Diary

I ran across the coolest thing while walking the halls of DSEI. “The SAS War Diary” covers 1941-45 and was published to commemorate the 70th Anniversary of the Special Air Service, raising funds for the Regimental Association. Sure, it’s an extravagance but it’s chock full of formerly classified documents detailing the wartime history of the Regiment collected by a former unit member who didn’t want to see their daring deeds forgotten. Plus, it’s massive at 25 lbs and 17″x12″x4″.

DSEI – Revision Cobra+ Helmet

Wednesday, September 16th, 2015

Revision’s Cobra+ Helmet is their component of the UK’s Virtus armor and load carriage system which is entering service later this month. Upon leaving Afghanistan, the UK found itself with armor systems configured for maximum threats. The idea behind Virtus was to provide a modular, scalable system to meet a wider variety of threats.

Since weight on the Soldier is so important; and blast, impact and frag threats are most likely, the Cobra+ is designed for frag and weighs in at just 1050 grams (medium). Comsequently, there’s no pistol or rifle caliber protection. This Polyethylene helmet is based on Revision’s Batlskin technology with their 4-point chinstrap, dial ratchet adjustment mechanism, impact liner, minirails and front mount which accepts not only NVGs but also serves as visor lock and mandible attachment point.

The system also includes the Modular Protective Attachment System with mandible and visor blast shield which both provide frag protection. They offer about 40% of the level of the base helmet.

As I said, the Cobra+ Helmet is a component of Virtus. Below you’ll see some photos of the full system.

The Virtus Scalable Tactical Best vest comes from Source Vagabond Systems Ltd and integrates the Dynamic Weight Distribution System which accepts packs.

IMG_7264.JPG

Founded in 1840, Laulhere is the last manufacturer of military berets in France. In fact, they supply Merino wool berets to forces all over the world in a wode variety of colors. Merino wool offers the same advantages for berets as it does for undergarmemts and socks. It insulates even when wet as well as naturally anti-bacterial and their berets do not pill and are mothproof.

Tuesday, September 15th, 2015

Established in 1947, Typhoon is well known throughout Europe for providing FR dive and exposure suits.  This is a Typhoon boat driver suit called the ISBO (Immersion Suit for Boat Operations) paired with FirstSpear kit. In fact, you’ll often see these two brands paired up over here.

Considering this suit was designed for use in the North Sea, this hood isnt overkill at all.
