Bobcat Tactical Solutions – MCP MOLLE Compatible Probe

Wednesday, June 11th, 2014

MCP-10-13-diagonal-1024x768

Bobcat Tactical Solutions was started by Andrew Bottrell, a former Navy EOD technician who was injured in combat in Kabul, Afghanistan and has since been medically discharged from the service.

Having found the issue mine probe unsatisfactory, Bottrell designed a brand new probe with characteristics he felt would benefit the EOD mission. He tested his new probe with his old unit, where it was refined and formed into the current MCP probe.

MCP-in-Molle-1024x768

Made from G10 polymer, the MCP or MOLLE Compatible Probe – named as such since it can be slipped behind PALS webbing, is highly durable, especially when compared to the issue probe. It is also non-magnetic, non-ferrous, non-sparking, non-metallic, and non-conductive, making it very useful when dealing with explosives. It comes in two lengths, 10″ and 13″, but can be cut down by the end user if required. The probe is textured for use in low light and with gloves, and built in 1″ increments allow for showing of scale. The MCP can come with or without a simple lanyard.

Although there isn’t currently a website or Facebook page set up for Bobcat Tactical Solutions, parties interested in the MCP can contact Andrew Bottrell at bottrellal@gmail.com.

Warrior Expo – ExplosiveOps Gear

Thursday, March 6th, 2014

EOG offers a family of Titanium Entry Tools. Manufactured from Grade 5 Titanium, they are offered in two different shapes and two different lengths. We’ve mentioned the Viper Tool (seen in this photo) in the past with its crowbar-like appearance, but the TET is a different product.

20140305-133130.jpg

The shorter version is 15″ and most often used by Assaulters. It is narrow enough to be carried threaded into MOLLE webbing. They also offer a PALS compatible pouch. There are also 19″ and 21″ models of the TET.

As you know, Titanium is a great material for these bars as it is both strong and lightweight. Additionally, Ti is non-magnetic.

No Love For The K9 EOD Badge

Wednesday, December 11th, 2013

We received a couple of emails from readers in response to the post in the EOD K9 Badge by Tactical Gentleman. Apparently, at least one person thinks that SSD created it. Obviously, we did not. Which makes us think that the virtual torches have been lit and farm implements sharpened.

So, the internet outrage offers a good opportunity to discuss this issue. Based on other posts by SSD regarding EOD, we have come to appreciate that it is a very passionate careerfield. These two letters are obviously written from the heart but retain a professional tone; which is great. Not all of the comments on the original post share that trait.

We would like to make one clarification on the post. The EOD badge is shared by all of DoD as a qualification badge and has also been adopted across the EOD community to include civilian LE.

So what do you guys think? Do the writers have a legitimate complaint or are they being too sensitive?

k9patch

To whom it may concern,

Please remove the K9 EOD Badge from your website. There are no K9 EOD in any of the 4 services. This is very disrespectful to all my brothers and sister who have sacrificed there lives for this country. All of us earn that badge through blood, sweat, and tears. For you to so callously put K9 on top of our hard earned Basic EOD Badge makes my soul hurt. I will be forwarding you website to all my brothers and sisters so that they may openly voice how they feel about this product and its disrespect to our community.

Sincerely,

SSG HK
756th EOD Company

and

I understand the need for moral patches however by using the EOD badge as the basis for their badge (basically removing the star and using a paw) you are taking away from the moral of the EOD tech who earned it, the badge signifies the job of the EOD tech and each part of the badge has a purpose none of which are performed by dog handlers or bomb dogs. I would appreciate the removal of this patch thank you For your time.
