Galvion Signs Contract With Marketing and Communications Agency, Chamois

Tuesday, June 9th, 2020

Galvion, an international designer, manufacturer and supplier of survivability and power management systems to the global defence and security sector, has signed a contract with the UK-based marketing and communications agency, Chamois Consulting Ltd. Under this contract Chamois will provide an integrated marketing and communications service with a particular focus on brand communications and PR to raise the profile and awareness of the newly launched Galvion.

Following the announcement in October 2019 of the sale of its protective eyewear business, along with the Revision Military brand name, the remaining Armor, Soldier Power and Electronics, Vehicle Platform Power and Advanced Concept divisions of the company are moving forward under the new corporate name GALVION. With seven company sites located across Canada, USA and UK, Galvion’s product portfolio includes leading-edge head, face and torso protective solutions, as well as power management systems supplied to military and tactical clients worldwide.

Galvion enjoys an impressive track record of large-scale global contracts for protective head systems as well as soldier power management systems, with customers including defence forces from the US, Canada, UK, France, Germany, Denmark, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, Poland, UAE, Israel, Australia, Indonesia, Botswana and others.

Of particular note to both Galvion and Chamois is the fact that the contract was put in place during the Covid-19 lockdown period, resulting in the parties on both sides not having met each other face to face prior to contract award. For both companies this has been a clear demonstration of how innovation, determination and adaptability can allow business to continue in these uncertain and challenging times.

Marnie Blanshay, Director of Marketing and Communications at Galvion said: “We are excited to start this new partnership with Chamois. A corporate re-brand is a monumental task no matter the circumstances, but the added constraints due to COVID-19 have pushed us to look for additional partners who can help us find creative ways to engage with our customers and markets. The inability to travel to meet customers in person or engage at trade shows are obstacles that so many are facing at the moment, but business must continue, and we are looking forward to working with Chamois to introduce Galvion and advance our sharpened business portfolio”.

Jamie Clarke, CEO at Chamois said: “I’m so pleased to have signed this contract with Galvion who, for us, are a model client. Following re-branding, companies often need help to establish awareness of the new brand despite there being a clear, credible and proven pedigree reaching back under the former brand. Our aim is to place Galvion firmly and visibly on the global map and we’re really looking forward to starting work”. He added “This contract is one of two new accounts we’ve brought on board during the lockdown period, working through restrictions that made it impossible to meet those involved in person. Life is not easy for any of us at the moment but we’re finding ways to overcome the constraints and continue to grow. I’d like to wish everyone the very best in these difficult times; stay safe”.

SIG SAUER Closes Operations In Germany; Continues Business As Usual

Friday, June 5th, 2020

You may have seen reports that SIG SAUER has closed its German factory, with some even going as far as to say that they are going out of business. While it is indeed true that they are closing their operation in Eckernförde, Germany, SIG continues to do quite well at their international headquarters in Newington, New Hampshire on the old Pease AFB facility.

Although the company is owned by Germans, if you’ve been paying attention, the writing has been on the wall for years. As the German government has made it more difficult to do business, SIG has moved more and more of the company to the US.

The company has also transitioned itself from firearms to an arms manufacturer as they’ve pursued defense contracts in addition to their commercial line and expanded into ammunition and optics.

This seems to be the culmination of years of planning rather than an abrupt decision based on factors such as the COVID-19 pandemic.

While it’s unfortunate that about 130 jobs will be lost, many of which are skilled craftsmen who have hand built guns for generations, SIG still has over 2,300 employees here in America across multiple facilities in several states.

SIG will realign how they conduct business in Germany but they continue to do business in 88 countries.

SIG SAUER, Inc. issued this statement:

L & O Holding group has announced that it is closing its SIG SAUER, GmbH (Germany) division in Eckernförde, Germany.  L&O Holding owns and operates numerous business units in the defense and hunting market including SIG SAUER, GmbH (Germany), SIG SAUER, Inc. (U.S.A.), and German Sports Group, GmbH (GSG), among others.

SIG SAUER, Inc. operations in the U.S. will continue business as usual.  The U.S. based division, headquartered in Newington, New Hampshire, has over 2,300 employees throughout 9 facilities in New Hampshire, Arkansas and Oregon where the company designs and manufactures firearms, ammunition, optics, suppressors and air guns.  Further, in New Hampshire, the company operates one of the most advanced training facilities in the world, SIG SAUER Academy.

SIG SAUER, Inc. markets and distributes its U.S. made products in 88 countries.  The SIG SAUER, Inc. International Sales Team, based in Europe, will expand its responsibilities to include the German market. German Sports Group (GSG), the current commercial distributor in Germany for SIG SAUER, Inc. optics, ammunition and air guns will expand its role to include commercial firearm sales in Germany.

KMW, Nexter and Rheinmetall Get the Go-ahead for Initial MGCS Architecture Study

Saturday, May 23rd, 2020

Munich / Versailles / Düsseldorf, 20 May 2020 – Standing for Main Ground Combat System, MGCS is a joint Franco-German defence project. The programme, to be implemented under German political leadership, is tasked with developing a main combat system to succeed the Bundeswehr’s Leopard 2 and the French Army’s Leclerc starting in 2035.

Making the start of the MGCS procurement programme Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW), Nexter Systems and Rheinmetall AG established an ARGE in December 2019. Now, the partners and the German Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support (BAAINBw), acting in the name of Germany and France, have signed a contract for the “System Architecture Definition Study – Part 1” (SADS Part 1). This contract sounds the industrial starting gun for a MGCS Demonstration Phase.

At the Franco-German Ministerial Council meeting in Toulouse on 16 October 2019, the defence ministers of both nations, Florence Parly and Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer, emphasized their commitment to developing the MGCS.

The ARGE is a German acronym standing for Arbeitsgemeinschaft, or “working group”. Under German law, the ARGE serves as the contractual partner of the procurement authority (BAAINBw) during the first phase of the programme. Officials of the three companies represent the ARGE vis-à-vis third parties.

The aim of the study is to harmonize the final MGCS concepts of the previous phase, to analyse further details, and to propose a common multi-platform architecture. The three contractual partners will assess various aspects of different concepts: technical feasibility in the projected timeframe allotted for the programme; ability to fulfil the operational needs of both armies; efficiency and compatibility with national “systems of systems” (SCORPION for France and Digitization of Land-Based Operations (D-LBO) for Germany). Workshares in the SADS Part 1 are to be distributed equally between France and Germany on a fifty-fifty basis. The first phase of architecture work is expected to last 18 months.
