Tuesday, May 22nd, 2012Crye Precision Expanding Operations at Brooklyn Navy Yard
Monday, May 21st, 2012Crye Precision is expanding their operations at their home in the Brooklyn Navy Yard as one of the new tenants in the recently announced $46 Million Green Manufacturing Center. This will reportedly more than double their current space and number of employees.
A press release from the New York Governor’s office contained this information:
Crye Precision – a premier designer and manufacturer of body armor and apparel for the U.S. military as well as federal and state law enforcement agencies – which was awarded $1 million through the New York State Consolidated Funding Application (CFA) process, has agreed to become one of two lead tenants at the new Green Manufacturing Center. Crye currently operates in four separate spaces at the Navy Yard, with 110 employees, and will now lease 80,000 square feet, consolidating multiple sites into one central location. Crye decided to expand in the Navy Yard after considering numerous options for consolidation and expansion, including New Jersey.
The company’s expansion into the Green Manufacturing Center will create 100 new jobs over the next five years. Crye also has several commercial product lines under development; one uses locally recycled materials that are converted into fabrics.
Crye Precision Executive Director Caleb Crye, said, “The Navy Yard has been exactly what our business needed to grow and we are thrilled that our future will remain here. We started here a decade ago with 4,500 square feet, today we’re up to 45,000 square feet with more than 100 employees and when the new facility is complete we’ll have a more efficient operation with room to grow and add at least 100 new jobs.”

Monday, May 21st, 2012The BHI Gauer
Thursday, May 17th, 2012We happen to love Pinzgauers and Blackheart International owns one. It has accompanied us to the range each day throughout our foreign weapons course, hauling weapons and ammunition to and fro.
Sure, I could have embedded this photo in one of the segments on the training, but this one stands out. A lot of companies own cool guy vehicles but they keep them as show pieces. The BHI Gauer is very much a reflection of the company; it’s a workhorse. As you can see, it gets used regularly.
Studio: 54
Thursday, May 17th, 2012Chances are good you’ve worn a tactical or outdoor garment or used a piece of kit that the folks from Studio: 54 had a hand in. Now, they’ve combined their expertise to create Canada-based Studio: 54. According to their website they, “cover the entire scope of product development, including initial production for market launch. We work primarily with textile products to create performance driven technical garments and equipment such as backpacks, sleep systems, shelters and virtually anything else that can be assembled with a sewing machine.”
This is a great opportunity for much of the industry. Good designers are hard to find and those that can produce a quality spec pack are rarer still. The guys at Studio: 54 can do that and more. If you are in need of quality technical assistance, contact www.s54.ca.
