Quebec Trade Mission to Brazil Focusing on Security

Thursday, July 28th, 2011

Quebec’s Ministry of Economic Development, Innovation and Export Trade selected Canadian Tactical Training Academy (CTTA) to be part of a trade mission to Brazil, August 29 through September 2, 2011. The Ministry will underwrite some of CTTA’s expenses and arrange meetings while in Brazil.

According to CTTA, they provide:

CTTA offers specialized programs such as: Executive Protection, Investigation and Surveillance, Rapid Integrated Survival Kombat (RISK) System, Tactical Firearms, Handcuffing, Airport and Airline Security (IATA and ICAO standards), Ports Facilities and Maritime Security (ISPS Code), Basic SWAT Techniques, Corporate Safety Awareness, and much more.

These look to be exactly the sort of training needed to deal with Brazil’s internal security challenges.

In a press release, Mr Angelo Marino, Vice President of Operations of CTTA, commented, “We are very pleased to have been selected by the Ministry to be part of this important Trade Mission. This recognition is a confirmation that CTTA is on the right track. Brazil is the place to be for our industry because of the World Cup and Olympics which will be hosted during the next few years. Also, we already have a partnership in Brazil with MAF Protection Control Risks Group, headquartered in Sao Paulo. “

What Mr Marino is talking about is that over the next five years, Brazil is host to several international events.

– Annual Brazilian Grand Prix, is part of the Formula One world Championship
– FIFA World Cup (of Soccer) in 12 Brazilian cities
– 2016 Summer Olympics Rio de Janeiro

Brazil is one of the so-called “BRICs” (Brazil, Russia, India, China) which are experiencing advanced economic development. It is an emerging market (7th largest economy by GDP) with notable security challenges. For example, Brazil is in the top 20 countries of intentional homicide rates and has continued problems with organized gang violence directed at security services. Based on the number of upcoming opportunities and the Brazilian desire to deal with security issues, it is surprising that more American firms are not reaching out to Brazil.

SureFire Wins 2011 Safety Product of the Year Award

Tuesday, July 26th, 2011

The Shooting Industry Academy of Excellence awarded SureFire the 2011 Safety Product of the Year Award for their improved EP3 Sonic Defenders. SureFire enhanced the Noise Reduction Rating (NRR) rating from 16db to 24db. The EP3 is a two-flange plug that allows sounds, at safe levels, to pass through into the ear canal, while potentially harmful noises (above 85dB) are reduced via a proprietary design that incorporates the patented Hocks Noise Braker® filter. EP3s also include the attached stopper plugs, which can be inserted for further protection, and they also block out lower-level noise like that heard on a plane. I can say from personal experience that these work. However, it is important to note that these do need to be replaced every 3-6 months depending on rate of use and care.

They are available in Black or Clear in sizes Small, Medium, or Large.

WPRC Elects Officers

Thursday, July 14th, 2011

The Warrior Protection and Readiness Association, which will continue to be known as the Warrior Protection and Readiness Coalition, held the inaugural meeting of its newly appointed Board of Directors early this morning. The Directors enthusiastically agreed to pursue further expansion of the WPRC as a not-for-profit organization.

During the meeting, the WPRC Board of Directors elected Luke Hiller, CEO of ADS, Inc. as its Chairman; Brent Finemore, Vice President of Government Sales at Pelican Products as its Treasurer; and David Bohannon, President of London Bridge Trading Company as its Secretary. The officers are joined on the Board of Directors by Matthew LeBretton, Esq., Director of Public Affairs at New Balance Athletic Shoe Company and Brent Finemore, Vice President of Government Sales for Pelican Products. The WPRC also designated David L. Costello as the WPRC’s first Executive Director. Costello and his team at ADS Ventures in Boston will work at the direction of the Board to develop public policy and outreach strategies that advance the WPRC’s mission on behalf of industry and the warfighter.

In little more than one year, the WPRC has grown from a concept to a leading advocate for the tactical clothing and equipment industry. The WPRC membership speaks with a single and increasingly strong voice on issues that impact domestic manufacturing and the safety of American military personnel in harm’s way. The current WPRC membership includes: ADS, Inc., Bates Footwear, Benchmade Knife Company, Bluewater Defense, Brookwood Companies Inc., Darn Tough Vermont, DuPont, Duro Textiles, Eye Safety Systems, Honeywell, Insight Technology, International Textile Group, Leading Technology Composites Inc., London Bridge Trading Company, Milliken & Company, New Balance Athletic Shoe Company, Otis Technology Inc., Outdoor Research, Pelican, Polartec, Smith Optics, Surefire, LLC, Tactical Holdings, TenCate, Wilcox Industries, Wiley X, W. L. Gore and WT Tactical.
