SPARTANAT – Gear Made in in Germany: Tactical Watches by BOMBFROG

Saturday, December 17th, 2016

bombfrog-1

Dirk a German Navy EOD Technician (Masterchief). His passion are watches. The result is BOMBFROG. He offers small charges of tactical and reliable watches for every mission. We talked to Dirk Assmann about BOMBFROG.

SPARTANAT: Dirk you are an active duty Navy EOD soldier, in civil life BOMBFROG. How did you started making military watches?

bombfrog-2

Dirk Assmann: I am an Navy EOD Technician since 21 years now and before I joined the Navy I was a big fan of pratical watches. After I finished dive school I got a IWC Porsche Design issued. A watch I had to use. Technically a complete desaster. It looked pretty, but keeping the time was not possible. As a dive supervisor I am responsible for my men. If my watch or I fail during dive operations or demolition, dead will be around. I needed an accurate watch and started making my own. This lead us to our brand.

SPARTANAT: What is characteristic for a good watch?

bombfrog-3

Dirk Assmann: You need to make a difference. Watches for land based operations need different functions than watches for dive operations. The perfect watch on the ground is a digital watch with a lot of useful tools. As a survival specialist you learn a lot at that school, but being country side as an civilian guy, you would love to have a compass, altimeter, count down or stopp watch function. At dive operations you don´t need all of that. You need a watch with a clean face and good lighting. You need to rely on the accuracy even in dark water

SPARTANAT: What models does BOMBFROG offer? What is your target group of customers?

bombfrog-4

Dirk Assmann: We get new watch models from year to year. We are very proud of that fact that we still grow, even that we are a small family operated business. You can view all our watches on our website. This year we made our first digital watch (DW-15). The response on that watch is awesome. Our target group service men and women who work in the Law and enforcement, Security or military branch. We also focus on outdoor and dive addicted people, who are looking for an affordable reliable watch.

SPARTANAT: You customize your watches. Who is wearing BOMBFROG watches?

bombfrog-7

Dirk Assmann: We personalize watches for our customers. This starts with the case color, goes over the face style and ends with a personalized case back. The biggest numbers on personalized watches are sold to different SWAT, police and military units around the world. As an example I can tell that we delivered to US Navy Seals, US Navy EOD Technician, SWE Army EOD, BEL Army EOD, SEK Berlin, Kampfschwimmer, Minentaucher, MEK Hamburg.
It is important to know, that this sold watches were not ordered officially by the governments. They were ordered by members of the units.

SPARTANAT: In private: What are you wearing yourself? What is the mother of all tactic watches?

Dirk Assmann: I am switching between 2 watches. During my day to day work I wear the DW-15. If I do my job in 150 feet deep water, I wear my BT25 version 4, because I need a watch I can rely on for 100% .

Thursday, December 8th, 2016

Official test reports now confirm PPSS Group’s new NIJ Std 0101.06 Level IIIA Bullet Resistant Vests also offer protection from full contact shots, which form a fundamental part of the infamously stringent German Police as well as FBI Body Armor Test Protocol.

Being clearly delighted Robert Kaiser, CEO of PPSS Group said: “Launching our new NIJ Std 0101.06 Level IIIA bullet resistant vest today is a truly special event in itself, but knowing our body armour also protect from full contact shots means we have once again significantly improved the personal safety of those who serve and protect our countries and citizens.”

“Too many law enforcement officers are being shot by their own firearms from extremely close range. Understanding this particular risk was crucial during the development phase of our new high performance body armour.”

PPSS Group’s latest body armour also offer consistent protection from Tokarev Ball 7.62 x 25mm and Makarov 9 x 18mm, handgun rounds primarily used in the Russian Federation and Eastern European countries.

This advanced design has been successfully tested against a general issue TASER® device, which was recently conducted in a realistic operational setting – with a no effect on the wearer. The wearer was not incapacitated by the Taser discharge nor suffered any effects of the device.

The hybrid ballistic package has been created using a highly advanced new ultra-resilient European ballistic material, an integrated solution that combines high ballistic performance with a high level of comfort, improved flexibility, and substantially reduced Back Face Deformation (BFD).

Tony Welsh, COO of PPSS Group is highlighting the firm’s commitment: “We really are devoted to our continuous research and development. Our ambitious goal was to develop one of the best and operationally most sensible bullet resistant vests, and it is now clear that we have successfully reached our objective.”

“There is no question about it this standard is without any doubt the single most important ballistic resistance standards in the world. The latest is also the most stringent and most important version of it. “

A NIJ Std 0101.06 tested and certified body armour ultimately means increased protection for the wearer. It means reassurance and peace of mind knowing that a body armour is based on the very latest design and manufacturing capabilities and technologies. A detailed and very informative and useful article on this standard can be found here PPSS Group website.

Sneak Peek – UF PRO’s Delta OL 3.0 Suit

Thursday, December 1st, 2016

Wearing comfortable clothing is essential when you want to stay focused, especially when operating outdoors in winter conditions with a full load-out, and the Delta OL 3.0 Jacket and Pant have been designed specifically with this in mind.

During activities in cold weather, the Delta OL 3.0 jacket will keep you protected against all kinds of cold weather hazards, offer you the necessary durability and most importantly, give you the comfort you need to focus on your tasking.

The Delta OL 3.0 jacket is due to its face material windproof and water-repellent. This means that the 2-layer ripstop laminate will stop wind-chill and also keep you dry during heavy snowfall and light drizzle.

A combination of G-Loft and WINDSTOPPER® means the Delta OL 3.0 uses the perfect technologies to protect you. The exceptional G-Loft thermal insulation created out of different hollow polyester fibres a 3D structure which can retain the maximum amount of dry air. This creates a warming thermal insulating layer between you and the cold environment. And the fibres keep their structure also when wet. Due to the so called “memory effect“, they always return to the original form, even after multiple washes and hard usage.

To keep your core warm and to give you extra movability in the arms area the jacket has two grades of thermal insulation. In the torso area it is lined with a 145 g/m² and in the sleeves with a 110 g/m² G-Loft insulation. Areas which are more prone to abrasion, like the elbows and the lower back area, are additionally reinforced with a 500 Denier Cordura® fabric.

The jacket offers in total 8 pockets, which allow you to stash most of the stuff you need within hands reach. Smaller gear can be stowed away in one of the 4 sleeve pockets. For bulkier gear you can use either one of the big front pockets or the two inner pockets. Due to the Delta OL 3.0 jacket’s anatomic cut, the jacket allows you freedom of movement, but at the same time it is tight enough so you can wear additional gear, like plate carriers or chest rigs over it.

The complementary Delta OL 3.0 pants are one of the very few thermal insulation pants on the market which offer a non-baggy cut, allowing you amazing movability and without compromise on thermal protection. Due to the special Flex/Zone construction and an integrated bi-elastic stretch part in the upper front and back, UF PRO can create anatomic fitted pants which follow all your moves and don’t compromise on thermal insulation protection.

The Delta OL 3.0 pants are thanks to their face fabric windproof and water-repellent. This means that the 2-layer ripstop laminate will stop wind-chill and also keep you dry during heavy snowfall and light drizzle. Just like the jacket they make use of G- Loft insulation and WINDSTOPPER® fabric to give optimal performance.

The pants are feature an adjustable waist, long YKK® water repellent side zips, belt loops and detachable suspenders; they also benefit from two fleece lined front pockets with YKK® water repellent zips, adjustable lower legs with boot hook, and Cordura® reinforcements in the knee and instep area.

If you need to be operating at the highest level in the worst winter conditions then the Delta OL 3.0 Jacket and Pant are the very tools for the job.
