Echo Arms Helmet Light

Thursday, February 14th, 2019

Granted, it’s mounted a bit far back in this image, but this is the Fast Attach Mount w/ Low Profile Integrated Light Body from Echo Arms.

The design utilizes an integrated Magpul M-LOK interface to mount directly to their Fast Attach Mount which attaches to the helmet via Velcro.

It uses the sane thread interface as Surefire E-Series and Scout lights meaning you’ve got lots of head and tailcap options.

With the Helmet Light sharing the same tailswitch, battery and head as the Surefire M300 Scout, pairing the Helmet Light with a Surefire M300 weaponlight provides a backup solution in the event a weaponlight fails and needs replacement parts.

This new helmet light is currently available for pre-order.

Sneak Peek – New Holster for Modular Handgun System with Pistol Aiming Light

Thursday, February 7th, 2019

When we showed the new Pistol Aiming Light (PAiL) by LaserMax Defense for the M17/18 Modular Handgun System, there was a lot of concern about there not being a holster for the PAiL equipped pistol. Since the US military plans on buying pistols in the tens of thousands per year and each will be equipped with a holster, this really wasn’t the disaster so many made it out to be. Of course, the Army and industry have already developed a solution.

img_3658.jpg

This is a first look at what will become the new holster for MHS. Because the basis of issue for MHS goes all the way down to Squad Leaders, and the PAiL will go on pistols issued to all Close Combat Forces, this PAiL compatible holster will become the standard Army holster.

A modification of the current interim MHS Holster, it is designed and produced by Safariland.

I picked a PAiL up off the table and thought it was a display model without any guts because it felt so light. It’s only 2.6 oz with battery. Here are a few shots of the PAiL. It’s capabilities include White light, IR Laser and IR Illuminator.

An interesting thing about the size and shape of the PAiL is that it mates with the MHS Trigger Guard to offer a continuous flat surface.

PAiL will commence fielding with the MHS later this year. Additionally, PAiL is already loaded on GSA for those organizations who wish to purchase it.

US Army Selects LaserMax Defense Pistol Enhancer as Pistol Aiming Light

Monday, January 28th, 2019

Last fall, the US Army’s Product Manager, Soldier Precision Targeting Devices (PdM SPTD) issued a requirement for a Commercial Off The Shelf (COTS) Pistol Aiming Light (PAiL) as a replacement for the AN/PEQ-14 and for use with the new Modular Handgun System.

PAiL must mount to the integrated rail on MHS and offer a white light and Infrared (IR) capability Because the Maneuver Center of Excellence (MCoE) determined that a visible pointer is currently not required PAiL will provide the user with greatly increased P (h) when using Night Vision Goggles (NVG). The additional white light must provide visual recognition in dark or night time applications.

Originally referred to as Multifunction Aiming Light or MFAL, during requirement definition, PdM SPTD took a look at Streamlight TLR-8 and the LaserMax Defense Pistol Enhancer.

Just prior to SHOT Show, LaserMax Defense was informed that the Army had selected their solution, the Pistol Enhancer as the new PAiL.

The switches are designed to be operated while wearing gloves and both the white light and IR illuminator (while using gen III Night Vision Devices) are designed to provide positive weapons ID at 40m.

Capabilities:

WHITE LIGHT: 175 lumens (typical) of white light
IR ILLUMINATOR: 175 mW (typical) of 850nm illumination
IR LASER: 850nm 0.7 mW max (class1) eye safe aiming laser

Length: < 2.8″
Height: < 1.4″ (not below trigger guard)
Width: < 1.5″
Weight: 2.6 ounces with battery

The Pistol Enhancer offers two hours of continuous use with a single CR-123 battery, which can be changed without removing the device from the weapon.
