SHOT Show – Petzl

Thursday, January 16th, 2014

Petzl has introduced Berry Compliant headbands which makes them easier to procure for military organizations. DoD organizations are not allowed to purchase clothing and textile items with a contract value in excess of $200,000. This restriction is extended to procurements via TLS because the threshold is applied to the annual contract rather than each individual sale.

The bands will be offered in Black and Desert and there will be separate models for the Tactikka and Strix.

SHOT Show – Cejay Engineering

Thursday, January 16th, 2014

This package consists of the FlexLight-Stick 3.3 and 4.6 (which refers to the length) paired up with the new MK Battery Carrier. These lights use the A76 battery (which has an NSN) that is common to many items. Unfortunately, there’s never really been a good way to store them. Cejay Engineering came up with design to handily carry 6 batteries.

The FlexLight Stick is available in the long and short models you see above as well as a short version that flashes. They less than an ounce and are available in a wide variety of colors including Red, White, Green, IR and UV along with others. Eachofthese items is available on the website. If you don’t find what you need, ask.

The Neptune is a wrist mounted Multi-function strobe. It is waterproof certified to 150′ and offers both IR, white and blue illumination. Unlike other strobes, it also offers constant lighting but with a twist. The user can dim the light down or bring it up based on conditions. Not only will it offer lighting for marking but also illumination. Very cool product.

Sneak Peek – Laser Battery Cap from EOTech

Friday, January 10th, 2014

You may recall the Laser battery Cap from Elite Defense. EOTech has picked it up and it launching it at SHOT Show as a product in their line.

EOTech’s Holographic Weapon Sight technology will now be available commercially with lasers. EOTech has designed a new drop-in replacement Laser Battery Cap (LBC) that can be used on all 512/552 Holographic Weapon Sights.

Laser Battery Cap

The EOTech LBC combines the lightning fast target acquisition of the Holographic Weapon Sight with the versatility of integrated aiming lasers to create an optic capable of excelling in any environment. These battery caps offer a low power red visible and IR laser making them ideal for home defense, CQB and force-on-force training.

The LBC’s operate through the use of an easy on/off toggle switch and come with an accessory port for a remote pressure switch (sold separately). They run on easy to find Lithium AA batteries for between 36 and 60 hours depending on laser type and usage. They are also waterproof to 10ft for up to one hour.

John Bailey Director of Product Development stated, “The 512 and 552 Holographic Weapon Sights have been some of our most successful products. This new Laser Battery Cap (LBC) doubles the aiming capability of the HWS without incurring the added cost of an entirely new sight.”

The new EOTech LBC’s are available in 4 configurations:
• LBC: laser battery cap accessory, Visible Red Laser, compatible with all 512/552 models. MSRP: $285.00
• LBC2: laser battery cap accessory, Visible & IR Laser, compatible with all 512/552 models. MSRP: $429.00

Sneak Peek – Petzl TACTIKKA + (RGB)

Thursday, January 9th, 2014

Petzl will be unveiling their new TACTIKKA + headlamp at SHOT Show. Featuring CONSTANT LIGHTING technology which means the light’s brightness does not decrease gradually as the 3 x AAA batteries are drained. It offers a maximum brightness of 100 lumens over a distance of 45 meters. With boost mode it gives temporary access to a brightness of 125 lumens (50 meters).

In addition to red filtered light as well as bright light, the TACTIKKA + has a strobe mode as well as a mode adapted for close range vision giving a mixed beam with wide, uniform flood and a mode adapted for movement with the beam’s focused component allows user to move around comfortably.

An additional model denoted by suffix RGB offers Red, Green and Blue lighting options. The Petzl TACTIKKA + RGB offers slightly more lumens than the standard model with 110 lumens at a distance
of 45 meters. Boost mode allows temporary access to a brightness of 125 lumens (50 meters).

The battery management features for both models are pretty interesting, allowing the user to easily anticipate battery replacement. It automatically switches to reserve mode when batteries are almost drained (signaled by blinking light). Additionally, red lighting switches on when batteries are practically empty to preserve a minimal amount of lighting.

As you can see, the new Petzl TACTIKKA + (RGB) models will be offered in MultiCam, Tan and Black.
