Solio Clip-Mini

Sunday, May 27th, 2012

The Solio Clip-Mini is an interesting light. Not so much for it’s size or the number of lumens (only 8.4) it sheds but rather for its unique recharging system. You see, it can be recharged via USB or Solar. The light integrates a solar panel and takes a full charge in 5-7 hours depending on sunlight conditions whereas USB charging is only about an hour. The Clip-Mini also integrates a power indicator to let you know how much of a charge remains in the light. Additionally, the light boasts 5 settings including 100%, 50%, 10%, strobe and SOS modes. There is also a red filter option that slides into place. Finally, the Clip-Mini features a cool carabiner-style clip that can be attached to packs or other items for storage or use.

Fight in Low Light…What’s Your Go-To Light?

Wednesday, April 25th, 2012

What is your favorite “fighting light” vs. “utility light”, or do you make a distinction?

Excerpted from BOLO Report:
If you ask most Police Officers when their Department last had firearms training at night, they would answer 2, 3, 5 …. years, or something to that effect. When was the last time you practiced drawing a light and a pistol from a duty belt or concealment holsters, as if carrying off duty at night? If you ask most civilians when the last time they practiced shooting in low light or darkness with a flashlight, most would say never. With a little creativity, you can practice what you will need to be a better low-light/night shooter in a dark room at home and at the range during the day…

…When shooting in low light/darkness, the biggest time factor is getting your light source on the threat and getting the sights aligned to make an effective shot. Fortunately, that is something that everyone can practice in the privacy of their own homes. Of all the light-aided grips, most people will develop a favorite, but do you carry your flashlight in the manner appropriate to that grip at all times, or do you hold the flashlight differently for different tasks? If you answered the latter, as do most, then you need to be proficient at multiple techniques, Sure-Fire, Harries, Chapman, Come-As-You-Are(The super close-quarter, moving, shooting, no time for technique, technique).

SureFire Offering Rechargeable Batteries

Thursday, April 19th, 2012

SureFire is now offering K2 Energy rechargeable LFP 123A batteries. They can be purchased alone or along with a wall/car charger. The runtime of these rechargeables is about 50% of disposable batteries but they do retain approximately 50% of their original capacity even after 500 charging cycles so over the long haul they can show substantial savings.

Please note – Rechargeable LFP 123A batteries are only to be used to power LED illumination products (built to use 123A lithium batteries) and NOT those featuring incandescent lamps. The initial elevated voltage of these rechargeable batteries, immediately after charging, may cause the filament contained within an incandescent lamp to break or “burn out”.

Friday, April 13th, 2012

Emissive Energy Corp has launched a new version of the INFORCE WML. It features a simple momentary activation switch for those who prefer the single-mode function of a more traditional type switch. The INFORCE WML produces 125 lumens of white light for 2 hours, with a tight beam for close- to mid-range applications and balanced peripheral light for discernment of the surrounding area.

In addition to the momentary switch the WML incorporates two distinct lockout systems to avoid accidental discharges. Weighing in at 3 oz (with battery) the light features an integrated rail grabber system that is 1913 compatible. The WML is waterproof to 66 feet and powered by a single CR123A battery.

Size Comparison – SureFire HellFighter 4 & Mini Hellfighter

Tuesday, April 10th, 2012

We took this photo at SHOT Show which should give you a good idea of the difference in size between Surefire’s HellFighter 4 and the ‘Mini HellFighter”. According to SureFire it’s LED based rather than HID and produces 2000 lumens versus the 3000 lumens of the HF1 and HF4. No word on when or if it will hit the street.
