Silynx Communications Equipment Featured in Relativity Media’s and Bandito Brothers’ Navy SEAL Action-Thriller Act of Valor

Silynx Communications, Inc, is a company that outfits the pointy end of the spear so it was no surprise to hear that they were chosen for use in the upcoming movie ‘Act of Valor.’ If you’ve heard anything about ‘Act of Valor’ you’ve probably heard that they emphasized realism in the production. I mean, they used active duty Navy SEALs. I’m also happy to hear that they insisted on the right gear. For many, comms gear might seem trivial, but for an operator his communications equipment is his lifeline to team mates as well as outside support including fire support, resupply, and extraction.

Produced and directed by former Baja 1000 champion Mike “Mouse” McCoy and former stuntman Scott Waugh, and written by Kurt Johnstad (300), the Bandito Brothers’ ‘Act of Valor’ tells a story that takes audiences on an edge-of-their-seat journey, when a mission to recover a kidnapped CIA operative unexpectedly results in the discovery of an imminent global threat, an elite team of highly-trained Navy SEALs must immediately embark on a secret operation, the outcome of which will determine the fate of us all.

In a press release, Silynx CEO Gil Limonchik said, “Silynx is honored to be part of a film that shows the world just what the men and women in the U.S. military undertake to protect our nation and its citizens. With the film inspired by actual missions, Silynx’s equipment is shown in use by SEALs who depend on communications and hearing protection/enhancement systems for mission success day in and day out. It is our mission to equip the warfighter with the most technologically advanced communications systems that provide flawless and life-saving communications and situational awareness. Silynx works directly with the Special Forces Community to provide continuous improvements to our products, and are honored that our equipment has become such an important part of the SEAL’s combat effectiveness.”

‘Act of Valor’ hits theaters this Friday. Who’s going?

Recoil Magazine

Wednesday, February 1st, 2012

Recoil magazine’s premier issue hit newsstands yesterday. Intended for the “gun lifestyle”, Recoil is a fun read. If you don’t believe there is a “gun lifestyle” just go to SHOT Show. You’ll see it in full force. It’s nice to see someone launching an actual printed publication in this day and age.

The photography is excellent. Two other things set it apart in my opinion. One is the format size and the other is the paper. It almost reminds me of the slew of Japanese “gun” rags (Combat, Strike, Guns, etc) with a touch of Wired and Maxim thrown in for good measure. But, it’s assuredly American and definitely caters to those of us who are into the gear.

You can tell these guys are fans by the content but I hope they bring in some outside talent to change it up a little. Let’s hope they can keep it going. If they can sustain their quality at this level they’ve got a dedicated reader in me.

I almost forgot…it comes with a free psycho clown target.

Coming Soon – SOFREP.COM

Monday, January 30th, 2012

Brandon Webb recently told me about his vision of a one-stop website for all things SOF. Something like this has been tried in the past but never been as comprehensive as what he described. Part wiki, part news service, part recruiting resource, SOFREP sounds to be pretty interesting.

Military.com contributing Editor (host of Kit Up) and former US Navy SEAL Brandon Webb has launched the most legitimate and comprehensive Special Operations media site on the Internet. The site is SOFREP.COM, Special Operations Forces Report (SOFREP).

“I saw a gap in online media, specifically, a Special Operations site that serves as an information portal to the public and industry. SOFREP provides timely and accurate information about current and past events involving the Special Operations Forces (SOF) community.
Information about the SOF community is often misunderstood and fragmented on the web. I was also shocked to see that the few sites that do exist are not even run by experienced SOF Operators. Even worse, their site managers are misleading people to believe they have a SOF background when they do not.
I recognized this and proceeded to build an authentic SOF editorial team comprised of former Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marine Corps personnel. Then I turned the guys loose and challenged them with building something truly unique that would reflect positively on the entire SOF community.
We were very conscious of Operational Security (OPSEC) and only put information up that can be found on existing official recruiting sites. The difference is that the information is better organized on SOFREP.com, unbiased and that you can now access it all in one place.
The team did a great job, and together we’ve built something really special with SOFREP. In the end, we are all cut from the same SOF cloth and I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished. One team, one fight.“
