Outdoor Retailer Summer Market Moves to August 10-12

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2021

Outdoor Retailer has issued a statement on hosting an in-person Outdoor Retailer Summer Market from August 10-12 in Denver.

Mark Your Calendars

The Outdoor Retailer Summer 2021 show is shifting back two months. Mark your calendars for the new dates of August 10-12, 2021, when we’ll return to the Colorado Convention Center in Denver. Originally scheduled for June, this change allows more time to facilitate a safe and successful in-person event, gives exhibitors and attendees more days to plan participation, and provides greater peace-of-mind in the opportunity to gather and do business together.

We remain committed to ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of each member of our community, our internal team and everyone involved with the show. We have been working closely with Visit Denver, the Colorado Convention Center, and hotel partners to implement the highest safety protocols and measures recommended by health officials and government agencies, and we are available to address any questions or concerns you may have.

We’ve heard from many of you who are eager to reunite and ready to get back to the productive work you find at the in-person show. We’re anxious to see you too! When we reconvene in Denver this August, expect to see extra precautions we are taking beyond those mandated by government authorities, and face masks will be required of all persons entering the building, without exception.

We recognize the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic is dynamic in nature, and we will coordinate with local officials, health agencies, and show partners to adapt preparations consistent with the latest protocols. Read more about our current guidelines here, and we will communicate updates throughout the coming months.

If you are unable to attend in person, there will be opportunities to learn and discover what’s new. Education sessions will run throughout the summer to help advance your business and grow our industry. The webinar-style programming, developed in partnership with Outdoor Industry Association (OIA), will be accessible from wherever you are and offer the same high-caliber sessions you’ve come to expect. Also, new digital opportunities via Elastic Suite will allow you to connect with brands and find new products for your store. Stay tuned for more information coming this spring.

During this past year we’ve all changed – how we live, the way we work, where we spend our time. One of the highlights has been the dramatic boom in outdoor participation. Now, we have a chance to embrace the new consumers and welcome all into our incredible community. They become lifelong outdoorists when we collectively nurture the new pursuits and ensure accessible adventures. We do that as a united industry and through the relationships we build.

These days are shaping our future, and we’re here to help you grow with each other and move forward more resilient. We look forward to seeing you in August when we are safely together again.

Outdoor Retailer Online is Happening July 21-23

Tuesday, June 16th, 2020

Let’s gather online this summer!
Mark your calendar! Outdoor Retailer Online is coming next month. From July 21-23, 2020, the outdoor community can connect, collaborate, and have the important conversations the show is known for. This summer it’s all online in an interactive environment.

DISCOVER

The show floor at Outdoor Retailer curates all that’s new and upcoming in the outdoor industry, and the Outdoor Retailer Online platform will promote the same joy of discovery that comes with walking the aisles. Exhibiting brands can showcase their product lines and news on their own customizable page. And retailers, buyers, designers, and media can search and discover what brands have available across all seasons – current inventory, upcoming for fall/winter, and new for spring/summer 2021.

LEARN

Like the in-person summer show, Outdoor Retailer Online will open with the Industry Breakfast hosted by the Outdoor Industry Association (OIA) on the morning of Tuesday, July 21. Three days of live education presented within the platform will follow in scheduled time slots from July 21-23, and all sessions will be available on-demand after they end. These conversations will cover topics important to our industry both now and moving forward, including diversity and sustainability, reopening and rebuilding, and strategy for business and industry growth.

CONNECT

While we’re all craving personal connection right now and miss the opportunity to come together as a community this summer, we are also mastering new online communication tools. Outdoor Retailer Online allows for exhibitors to host multiple live video conversations simultaneously within their page, and to book appointments or interviews within the platform. Scheduled events throughout the three days will also provide networking opportunities for all attendees to connect, reconnect, and have important conversations to support the growth of businesses and our industry.

Since the cancellation of Outdoor Retailer Summer Market due to COVID-19, it’s been our goal to provide a valuable space for our community to strengthen businesses, network, and stay united.

We appreciate your patience as we looked for a solution, not a reaction. We know from many conversations over the past weeks, and from reading through the surveys, we needed an online space that: supports your reimagined sales seasons; allows for the discovery of new brands, products ,and retailers; provides an outlet for marketing and media communication; and gives us all a way to stay connected. It needed to be a space where we can listen, learn, and grow together.

Capturing it all, and everything we gain from days at the show, in an online space is a challenge. There are a lot of layers to the shows. But we hope Outdoor Retailer Online will provide you tools and an efficient space to support your business.

We also plan to bring fun and inspiration – Outdoor Retailer and the outdoor industry wouldn’t be complete without it. The 10th annual Outdoor Retailer Inspiration Awards will be hosted on the platform on July 22 (nominations are open!), and keep an eye out for more events to be announced. Read more in the press release here.

If you’re a brand interested in exhibiting or sponsorships, contact your Account Executive today. For all attendees, we’ll have more information soon around registration, the exhibiting brand list, and education schedule.

While live programming will run for three days, the Outdoor Retailer Online platform and its tools will be accessible to registered exhibitors and attendees through the summer. Use when best works for you.

We’re excited to introduce this platform, and we want it to be a place for your business and our community to find tools for moving forward and thriving. Know that we’re always here to support you, and we look forward to working with you in the coming weeks as Outdoor Retailer Online comes to life.

Outdoor Retailer Summer Market Canceled

Friday, April 3rd, 2020

Outdoor Retailer has canceled the Summer Market due to COVID-19.

Experienced outdoorists know when the backcountry is unsafe, a trail insecure, or the season wrong for the adventure. In those times, we focus on different activities to ensure our safety while still fulfilling our connection to the outdoors.

This is one of those times. Amidst growing concerns surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, and after having extensive conversations with many of you, we made the difficult decision to cancel Outdoor Retailer Summer Market 2020, which had been scheduled for June 23-25, 2020 in Denver. Maintaining the health and safety of everyone is paramount to us.

Recent developments have made it impossible to effectively execute a June show that delivers the level of connection, discovery, and value our community expects. This is due to developments regarding COVID-19 that we are all familiar with at this point, including, but not limited to, the declaration of a National State of Emergency; various statewide states of emergency across the nation; the latest federal measures, including travel restrictions placed on foreign nationals traveling to the United States from certain EU member states and other places; the declaration by the WHO of COVID-19 as a pandemic; the accelerating pace of confirmed cases worldwide and domestically; current quarantines, containment areas, stay at home orders, and restrictions on congregating and large gatherings imposed by states and other government and public health authorities; various company-imposed travel restrictions on employees affecting attendees and participating companies; and the resulting cancellations made by several partners.

Life around the world has changed rapidly, and the way we live, interact and do business have all been radically disrupted.

While we did investigate potential alternative dates for the show, due to logistical issues, as well as clear feedback from retailers, reps and brands, we were forced to cancel and not postpone Outdoor Retailer Summer Market 2020.

Despite cancelling our in-person summer show, we are committed to keeping us all connected because it’s with the help of each other that we move forward. As the largest network of outdoor businesses, we are doing everything we can to leverage that for the health of our industry.

In talking with you, we’ve been gaining a better understanding of the industry’s needs at this time. We’re now working to deliver you tools that will:

• Support go-to-market strategy for Spring/Summer 2021;

• Reinforce buyer/seller networks;

• Offer an ability to discover new brands, products and retailers, and a place to learn; and

• Provide media and marketing opportunities to tell stories and drive awareness.

We’ll keep you informed as details come together and plans become actions.

We’re going to come out of this eager to connect on a human level and anxious to celebrate everything we value as a community. We can’t wait to bring everyone together again and see you all in January. And as we’ve said before, this is when we really miss the hugs and high-fives, so make sure and take time to reach out and support each other.

Stay safe and take care of one another. A community together wins.

Protekt

Friday, February 21st, 2020

Protekt is a new company I met during Outdoor Retailer. This veteran owned brand has introduced a line of skin care products. If you’d have asked me about skin care even a few years ago, I’d have looked at you like you had a horn growing out of your forehead. But now, I’ve begin to pay the toll of decades of sun and wind with regular visits to the dermatologist.

It’s best to apply some lotion with UV protection before heading outside, regardless of the activity.

Protekt is launching with four products which utilize non-nano zinc oxide as the active ingredient. With the exception of the lip balm, they are waterproof for 80 minutes.

SPF 30 Lotion

SPF 30 Clear Sunstick

SPF 30 Tinted Sunstick

SPF 15 Lip Balm

Black Diamond Equipment – Traction Devices

Tuesday, February 11th, 2020

Black Diamond Equipment introduced a family of traction devices during the recent Outdoor Retailer Snow + Winter Market.

Designed in conjunction with their mountain athletes, these traction devices feature stainless steel spikes and are intended to be worn with approach/light hikers/mountain runners.

There are three models coming Fall 2020:

Their lightest model, the Blitz Spike weighs only 45 grams. There are six spikes at the forefoot.

The Distance Spike is for long distance running. It features a hybrid upper with softshell toe cap with a heel retention elastomer.

The Access Spike is their workhorse model, with tough rubber retention.

Mountain Hardwear – Firefall/2 Glove

Saturday, February 8th, 2020

Coming Fall 20, the new Firefall/2 globe from Mountain Hardwear features a Gore-Tex membrane and Primaloft insulation. Additionally, they are smart screen compatible.

Haven Tent

Friday, February 7th, 2020

At last week’s Outdoor Retailer I ran into Haven Tents which was originally launched on Kickstarter.

They’ve taken the best of the hammock and tent and put them together. It will accept a sleeping pad and offers a much more stable sleeping platform than a traditional hammock. Additionally, it has a roof which will zip closed so no need for an additional tarp.

As you can see, there’s interior storage and you can even store your pack inside the Haven with you.

Lowa Task Force Socks

Thursday, February 6th, 2020

Coming later this year, Lowa Task Force will offer Made in Europe socks in two weights, 4-Season Pro and Winter Pro. In both cases they are fitted left and right and made from differing Merino/synthetic blends. Other common features are a comfort cuff to keep your socks up, thermal ribs and a pressure relieving Achilles pad, honeycomb padded ankle, and a padded seamless toebox.

The 4-Season Pro features a ventilated footbed. They are available in Black (not shown), Coyote, Ranger Green and Desert.

The Winter Pro incorporates a Primaloft footbed first added warmth. They are available in Black and Coyote.
