TacMed Tuesday – ARK Bag Configurations

Tuesday, November 16th, 2021

One prominent kit from TacMed™ is the ARK™ Active Shooter Response Kit. It’s designed to provide individuals responding to active shooter situations with the equipment necessary to render aid and initiate evacuation of multiple casualties. The design of the bag and its contents allow responders to maximize the resources available on scene and does not hinder or slow down the clearing process of the structure or incident area.

A unique aspect of this bag is that it can be configured as the traditional ARK™, designed for multiple casualties, or the ARK™ Evacuation, which is configured with an evacuation litter that allows for a one-to-one rescuer-to-casualty ratio.

In the main body of the bag, the ARK™ contains seven ARK™ Casualty Throw Kits which hold basic treatment material and simple bi-lingual instructions for providing initial treatment. The throw kit idea was designed assuming that officers don’t always have time to stop and treat, but rather can ‘throw’ kits with instructions to those in need while they continue to clear the area. With multiple storage compartments, the ARK™ is not only for basic treatment. Medics maintain more advanced equipment in the side pockets for treatment of teammates if necessary.

The ARK™ Evacuation configuration is designed to significantly reduce the treatment and evacuation time of seriously injured casualties in a hostile environment. Rather than being stocked with Casualty Throw Kits, the ARK™ Evacuation comes with the choice of including a Foxtrot Litter or a Foxtrot DA in the body of the bag. This configuration provides the necessary equipment for aid and litter teams, combat lifesavers, and medical operators to treat and evacuate a casualty in one compact package.

Squatch Survival Gear – Mothman Backpack Pre-order

Friday, October 29th, 2021

When we first met Squatch Survival Gear at Summer OR, we found out all of their packs are named after Cryptozoic creatures. This upcoming model is named after the legendary Mothman, a staple of Appalachian folklore.

Coming Christmas 2021, this 31 liter pack ( 21 Liters in the main compartment and 10 liters split between two large external pockets) is a panel loader with two exterior pockets on the main flap. The top incorporates Velcro pile for patches and identification and the bottom has four rows of PALS webbing.

The shoulder straps are padded and include a sternum strap. There’s also a removable padded hip belt.

Additionally, there PALS webbing on either side of the pack body as well as in the interior to help organize your load. One of the other features I really like is the internal strips of Velcro pile to secure needed items. The main flap also has a mesh pocket on the inside.

Finally, the Mothman is as suited to travel as it is a day in the woods.

It will fit under an airline seat and fits right unto roller board luggage for ease of transits.

All Squatch Survival Gear packs are designed by Veterans and Made in USA.

Pre-orders are for Black and Coyote. The Blue color in the photo is a prototype they’ve been using for the past few months.

Introducing the S.O.Tech Micro Pack, Launch Edition

Tuesday, October 26th, 2021

S.O.Tech’s Micro Pack came from an evolution of our Special Forces Tactical Medical Modular Carriage System. Over 20 year of development we had arrived at flat rectangular medical pack. But it was tall, and a Ranger medic who goes by “Mack” approached us with a way to make the load even more accessible while under fire.

He asked us to split the pack into a 2/3 – 1/3 pair of bags with the larger pack mirroring the size of the rear trauma plate and holding the advanced medical items (IV/IO, transfusion sets, etc.) and the smaller holding the rapidly accessed trauma items in a fanny pack configuration (or a MARCH belt configuration. This way the belt or fanny pack could be quickly accessed in a kinetic environment by spinning the belt.

This “Micro Pack” suddenly became adopted as a Breacher’s pack, ropes/vertical extraction kit, MASCAL kit, and as a basic survival pack. We set it up to carry as a backpack, satchel or briefcase. As we developed out COBRA medical pack system, the Micro Pack answered the mail as the external go-bag secured in a bra-panel on the rear.

Special launch edition includes Micro pack, convertible shoulder straps, plate carrier adapter system, MPO (Modular Panel Organizer) and MBP (Modular Box Pouch, Wide, Mesh / Dyneema Hybrid).

Launch edition will have a special introductory price of $160. No backorders. While supplies last.

PocketUp – SleeveWrap Pocket System

Friday, October 22nd, 2021

Mel Terkla has been working on a pocket system that doesn’t use PALS webbing off and on for a couple years now. The result is PocketUp’s SleeveWrap Pocket System which allows you to add pockets to a slick pack.

Other pockets out there that mount on packs without PALS use an array of buckles and/or webbing.

They use a sleeve on the pack that is sewn at the top and bottom with 2” Velcro strips sewn onto the sides of the sleeve underneath. The pockets have “wings” on the sides with Velcro that wrap under the sleeve and Velcro into place, thus the term SleeveWrap.

They will be offering this system initially on their Park Pack and Zone Pack, along with a variety of SleeveWrap Pockets.

They’re planning on releasing the SleeveWrap Pocket System around the first of the year.
