ECP_RG_0679

For this week’s Friday Focus, we’re taking a look at the Exigent Circumstance Pack. The Exigent Circumstance Pack, or ECP, is an assault pack that can be quickly attached to a vest or worn in stand-alone mode, either as a backpack or single-strap bag. The ECP features a removable beavertail flap, which secures with shock cord and provides enough space to hold a helmet, or a positive air breathing system such as the CV420. The pocket within the exterior flap is sized to hold the Avon M53 Series Protective Mask, and features an elastic daisy chain for flash-bang or smoke grenades. Additionally, the rear-most pocket will hold a 3 liter hydration reservoir or the included comfort pad.

Warrior West – LBT Brings Back the Original 3-Day Pack

Wednesday, May 4th, 2016

Way back in the 90s I was issued a Black 3-Day Pack made by LBT Inc. We called them ‘Ninja Bags’ and they were made by several manufacturers. Some of them lasted longer than others and I’ve got to say my experience with my LBT pack was great. While other packs fell apart, the LBT model soldiered on.

Over the years that pack design evolved from a simple day pack style to include integrated jump harnesses, dedicated specialty pockets and eventually, PALS webbing. Now, LBT is taking it back to its roots with the LBT-1476A Slick.

Other than color choices, you wouldn’t be able to aestheticly tell the difference between this Standard Three Day Assault Pack and my old Ninja Bag.

Upon close examination the only difference I noted was that the bottom of the shoulder straps are now double bartacked into the body of the pack where it was a single bartack in my day.

Offered in Black, Coyote Brown, Coyote Tan, MAS Grey (shown), MultiCam and Woodland.

Hill People Gear – qui-Ya Backpack

Wednesday, April 27th, 2016

The qui-Ya is Hill People Gear’s dedicated large volume multiday internal frame backpack. It is built on the same heavy duty chassis as the Ute backpack, but with a 28” frame and 29.5” overall height as well as a larger diameter bag. This yields an approximate ~5500 ci volume (conservatively). At a weight of 6.25lbs, the qui-Ya has a very favorable weight to volume / load capacity ratio.

The pack bag consists of a main compartment, 1.5” tall zippered top pocket, generous wand pockets, and a Velcro loop field on the underside of the zippered top lid. Materials include 1000d cordura on the suspension side and bottom, hypalon details, and 500d cordura for the rest. The chassis is dual 7000 series aluminum stays landed in the included Prairie Belt, HPG’s signature contoured shoulder harness, and an HDPE framesheet. The qui-Ya is made in the USA by FirstSpear out of US materials.

Just like its little brother the Ute, the qui-Ya can be expanded with a selection of optional back pockets depending on the user’s needs. The addition of a back pocket increases volume and organization, but it also turns the pack into a load hauler frame as the situation warrants. The HPG-original pulley compression system controls load very effectively and also allows the pack to be collapsed to nearly empty while still maintaining excellent load cohesion.

Retail price for the new pack is $450 and it will be available by mid-May directly from Hill People Gear. Color choices include – two tone ranger / khaki and two tone foliage / manatee. Email info@hillpeoplegear.com if you would like to be notified when this pack is available. Please specify color choice.
