Offers Improved Lumen Output, Battery Options and LED Color Choices

EAGLEVILLE, PA, October 30, 2024 – Streamlight®Inc., a leading provider of high-performance lighting and weapon light/laser sighting devices, unveiled the Sidewinder® X, a high-output, multi-fuel military flashlight designed for a variety of task illumination needs, with four LED color options and intensity levels, up to 275 lumens, and a 185-degree articulating head. The new light is powered by either disposable alkaline or lithium batteries and is available in three different versions, including a user configurable (UC) model.

“This is the brightest light in the Sidewinder® family, while also providing battery versatility to suit individual needs or preferences,” said Streamlight President and Chief Executive Officer Ray Sharrah. “In addition to white light, users can select the infrared (IR) or green LEDs for compatibility with night vision equipment, the blue LED to check injured personnel for bleeding, or the red LED to maintain night vision when map reading or for cockpit navigation, all in one compact, waterproof package.”

The Sidewinder X is available in three different models: Military, programmed with white, red, blue and IR outputs; Aviation, programmed with white, green, blue and IR outputs; and a new User Configurable model that allows users to choose two colors from among red, green or blue LEDs in addition to white and IR LEDs programmed into the light.

The new light uses a white LED that offers 275 lumens of bright light on high and up to 150 hours of run time when using two AA alkaline batteries or 100 hours with a single 3-volt CR123A battery. Tactile battery polarity indicators make battery changes in the dark easier to accomplish. The light’s color and IR LEDs offer peak wavelengths of 950 nm (IR), 662 nm (Red), 530 nm (Green) and 470 nm (Blue). All light outputs provide four intensity levels and a strobe mode that operates at 100 percent intensity.

The Sidewinder X’s compound On-Off mode selector switch ergonomically separates the On-Off, dimming, strobe and LED color selection functions. A rubber dome actuator and four-position pull-to-turn locking rotary selector knob offer easy operation, even with gloves, and prevent accidental mode changes.

The light is made from high-impact, super tough nylon that offers exceptional durability and weather resistance, and its unbreakable polycarbonate lens is gasket-sealed and has a scratch-resistant coating.

The light comes with a durable belt/gear clip to securely fasten it to a helmet, belt or MOLLE, and it fits existing Sidewinder helmet mounts and adapters. A cord attachment hole in the body is capable of supporting up to 50 pounds.

Available in Coyote, the Sidewinder X features a one-year limited warranty and has an MSRP ranging from $132.75 to $176.90, depending on the model.

Qore Performance Introduces CATAMARAN Gen 3: The Next Evolution in ICEVENTS-enhanced Universal Plate Carrier and Soft Armor Vest Ventilation

Monday, October 28th, 2024

Knoxville, TN—Qore Performance is thrilled to announce the launch of CATAMARAN Gen 3: a universal ICEVENTS® ventilation adapter panel for hard and soft armor. CATAMARAN Gen 3 continues Qore Performance’s Gen 3 evolution across the ICEPLATE EXO®, ICEVENTS®, and IMS families of cutting-edge thermoregulation and performance enhancement solutions. Built on the all-new ICEPLATE EXO® Gen 3 architecture, CATAMARAN Gen 3 delivers ultimate comfort and airflow to older/issued plate carriers and soft armor vests. CATAMARAN Gen 3 adapts seamlessly to the style of armor: overt or covert, hard or soft, MOLLE or slick, upgrading legacy armor systems with bleeding-edge evaporative thermoregulation technology that is hydrophobic, anti-microbial at the molecular level, and 90% air by volume.

Standard plate carrier designs trap heat against the body, creating stifling microclimates and discomfort for the end-user. Few plate carriers offer the built-in relief of stand-off ventilation like the Qore Performance ICEPLATE EXO® Gen 3, and many rely on heavy foam or spacer mesh padding that retains heat and moisture as evidenced in these empirical tests. CATAMARAN Gen 3 redefines ventilation with its laser-cut Velcro grid field, offering a universal fit for a set of ICEVENTS® Classic Plate Carrier Ventilation Pontoons to ensure maximum airflow and comfort on any carrier in any environment—all at an ultralight total weight of just 5 oz.

CATAMARAN Gen 3 makes upgrading contemporary and legacy carriers (JPC 2.0, U.S. Army MSV, USMC PC Gen III, etc.) easier with ICEVENTS® convective thermoregulation power. With its intuitive design, CATAMARAN Gen 3 offers ultimate adaptability and integrates seamlessly via MOLLE, Elastic Side Straps, Velcro One-Wrap, or Elastic Shock Cord—providing confident compatibility with any vest configuration.

Key Features of CATAMARAN Gen 3:

– Universal Compatibility: Engineered for ultimate adaptability, CATAMARAN Gen 3 brings ICEVENTS® ventilation technology to virtually any plate carrier or soft armor vest, integrating seamlessly with MOLLE, Elastic Side Straps, Velcro straps, Velcro One-Wrap, or Elastic Shock Cord for market-wide compatibility.

– ICEVENTS® Integration: Securely mounts ICEVENTS® Classic Plate Carrier Ventilation Pontoons, enhancing airflow and reducing hot spots.

– Customizable Ventilation: This feature allows users to personalize pontoon placement based on individual preference in Parallel, Venturi, or any other configuration to fit any end-user body shape/size.

To achieve ultimate all-aspect thermoregulation, pair CATAMARAN Gen 3 with IMS Versa, uniting ICEVENTS® evaporative cooling with ICEPLATE® Curve’s conductive cooling, heating, and hydration for unparalleled thermoregulation and environmental inoculation capability augmentation.

Around 200 Combat Vehicles for Ukraine: Rheinmetall is Supplying 20 Additional Marder Infantry Fighting Vehicles

Monday, October 28th, 2024

Rheinmetall has handed over 20 additional Marder infantry fighting vehicles (IFVs) to the Ukrainian armed forces for their defence against the Russian aggressor. The delivery was completed at the end of the third quarter of 2024. This brings the total number of combat vehicles delivered directly to Ukraine or in the context of so-called ring exchanges (Ring¬tausch) to around 200.

A three-digit number of these systems are Marder 1A3 infantry fighting vehicles.

In addition, Rheinmetall has provided Marder infantry fighting vehicles and Leopard main battle tanks in double digits through a ring exchange process. The latest order for the delivery of 20 Marder, financed by the German government, is worth a mid double-digit million euro amount. The order intake has already been booked in March 2024.

The Marder 1A3 version being delivered by Rheinmetall to the Ukraine features additional laser rangefinders for efficient and precise target engagement. The first delivery of 20 combat vehicles of this type was arranged by Rheinmetall on behalf of the German government in March 2023; further deliveries followed, each in the double digits.

As early as in the spring of 2022, Rheinmetall began taking over and refurbishing Marder 1A3 IFVs from Bundeswehr stocks – initially at its own expense. Since then, the combat vehicles have been repaired for their immediate deployment. The work is carried out at the corporation’s sites in Unterlüß and Kassel.

The Marder is one of the most proven weapon systems of its kind worldwide. It was developed for the Bundeswehr, and is still in service there to some extent. Over the years, it has been modernised several times and its combat performance enhanced. In the meantime, the Puma has been introduced into the Bundeswehr, where it is gradually replacing the Marder in the army. Over 300 of the cutting-edge IFVs are now in use by the German armed forces.
