SMASH 2000 Being Evaluated by the US Army Under Foreign Comparative Testing

SMASH 2000 underwent intensive live fire testing by U.S. Army at the Aberdeen Proving Grounds (APG) to evaluate its Fire Control capabilities compared to standard rifle sights

[October 15, 2020]: Between the 14th and 24th of Sept, 2020, Product Manager Individual Weapons, under PM Soldier Lethality, supervised the live fire testing and evaluation of the SMASH 2000 fire control enabled rifle Sight.  The testing at APG was funded by OSD (Office of the Secretary of Defense) under a Foreign Comparative Test program designed to determine if international mature technologies can fill U.S. military operation gaps.  

Thousands of rounds were fired by soldiers at APG outdoor range for the purpose of recording data that compared the target hitting capability of the SMASH 2000 against standard U.S. Army issued optics. Targets ranged from 25 meters to 400 meters in a variety of fixed, pop-up, and moving target scenarios.

“Testing the SMASH 2000 is another example of how OSD continues to evaluate foreign technologies that could fulfil specific DoD operational needs,” said William Everett, U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command, who is responsible for sponsoring many such comparative tests. “We also sponsored a VIP day to give U.S. uniformed officers and Foreign dignitaries the opportunity to fire the SMASH 2000. That opportunity was well received and the event went well,” he added.

We will have to collect the data and determine next steps.”

Diamond Age NeoSteel Tactical Helmet Accessories Now Available

McKinney, Texas (October 2020) – Texas-based, materials science and ballistics specialists, Diamond Age, unveiled the next generation steel NeoSteel™ Helmet in August, and now offer the first two helmet accessories, designed specifically for the NeoSteel Helmet.

The NeoSteel Helmet is a modular combat helmet produced using the most technologically advanced metal alloys resulting in a helmet that meets and exceeds VPAM-3 + Special Threats ballistic requirements. The Combat Circlet’s vertical crest allows for additional stability and more accessory-mounting real estate. Future modules in development for the crest include applique blast protection and an applique ghillie module. The rear of the Combat Circlet features a tie-down bar for additional stability without using a counterweight. The Combat Circlet also allows for direct integration with the NeoSteel Helmet Face Protector.

The NeoSteel Ventail face protector offers the wearer an enhanced protection platform from ballistic threats. It covers the face, side of the head, and a portion of the anterior neck. It mounts easily and quickly to the helmet using the four retention system holes on the shell and protects from blunt impact, blast overpressure, and debris. The Ventail is also fully compatible with most ballistic glasses and offers an unconstrained field-of-view while being lighter in weight and tougher than traditional transparent ballistic visors.

“Unlike the composite helmets on the market today, the NeoSteel Helmet will serve the warfighter or LEO for years to come. UF PRO’s New MultiCam Low Temperature Line

The UF PRO MultiCam® Low Temperature Line consists of upgraded versions of four existing UF PRO products:

• Delta AcE Plus Gen.2 Winter Tactical Jacket
• Delta OL 3.0 Winter Tactical Jacket
• AcE Winter Combat Shirt
• Hunter FZ Gen.2 Softshell Jacket (available later this year)

Each of the four in its upgraded form is designed for use in conditions from mild to well-below zero degrees Centigrade; additionally, the new MultiCam fabric, from which the quartet is constructed, promises significant performance advantages such as greater durability and a dramatically lower noise signature, according to Armin Wagner, UF PRO’s head of product development.

“This new MultiCam fabric allows wearers to operate more comfortably and efficiently in extreme cold environments characterized by everything from icy winds to snow or drizzling rain,” said Wagner. “The material is a laminate,” he said. “The outer face-fabric is made of texturised, soft-to-the-touch, 100-percent polyamide that overlays a highly breathable inner polyurethane membrane. The outer layer is woven together by a special ripstop technique. Consequently, these garments last longer—they’re just way more durable, as seen in their greater resistance to tearing, peeling, and friction.”

The other major performance edge offered by the MultiCam Low-Temperature Line is its quietness, according to Wagner. “These upgraded garments make very little noise while the wearer is walking or running,” he said. “Normally, laminate material makes an unmistakable sound that can be easily heard. But this new MultiCam fabric, because of its composition and softness, doesn’t give off that telltale noise.”

The Delta OL 3.0 Tactical Winter Jacket is for the ultimate in cold-weather outerwear. It’s designed for scenarios where the wearer will be stationary for long periods in the worst possible weather conditions – such as high winds driving rain or snow. Company Creates More than 50 New Jobs in Ohio and Prioritizes the Hiring of Veterans

U.S. Representative Warren Davidson to Tour Facility as Congress Considers Bipartisan Legislation in Support of More Domestic Manufacturing

New York, NY – October 13, 2020 –The Chargeurs Group today announced a significant investment to expand the company’s U.S. manufacturing footprint to reshore personal protective equipment (PPE) production. The project will support Chargeurs’ newest division, U.S.-based Lainiere Health & Wellness, which will oversee the distribution, marketing and sales of all U.S.-manufactured PPE, including consumer-grade and medical-grade three-ply masks as well as 95-level respirator masks. The company will welcome U.S. Representative Warren Davidson at its Troy, Ohio, facility, Novacel Inc., which is creating more than 50 new jobs in the state and prioritizing the hiring of military veterans.

“Chargeurs is highly committed to developing new industrial capacity in the U.S. and to contributing to the country’s ability to manufacture PPE domestically,” said Michaël Fribourg, Chairman and CEO of Chargeurs Group. “We are grateful to all of our U.S. teams for their own longstanding commitment to success and we will continue to invest in our American manufacturing capability in the coming years.”

Chargeurs’ Ohio manufacturing facility is in a district represented by Representative Warren Davidson, a former Army Ranger who spent 15 years owning and operating manufacturing companies in Ohio. Congressman Warren continues to champion Ohio manufacturing and his tour of Chargeurs’ facility in Troy follows the introduction of bipartisan legislation by Ohio Senator Rob Portman and Michigan Senator Gary Peters that would incentivize more American companies to reshore production of PPE, reducing the U.S.’s reliance on foreign-made supplies. Should it be signed into law, the Make PPE in America Act would require the federal government to issue long-term contracts to companies to produce PPE in the U.S. The law would help provide manufacturers with the certainty they need to justify an investment in U.S. production.

“I love seeing this growth in manufacturing in southwest Ohio,” said Congressman Davidson, who represents Ohio’s 8th District. “As we’ve seen this year, keeping production inside the U.S. isn’t just important for the economy, it is critical to our national security. As a former manufacturer and Army Ranger, I’m also glad to see that hiring veterans is a priority for businesses. This is a win-win for all involved.”

When the COVID-19 pandemic revealed the risk of relying on foreign countries for PPE, Chargeurs began retrofitting part of its Troy, Ohio, manufacturing facility to help alleviate the domestic shortage of this critical equipment. The facility has begun with lines that can produce up to 2.5 million masks a month and will increase its production capacity in the coming months. Chargeurs also aims to produce Berry-compliant masks that meet the requirements of US military and government contracts by the end of the year.

“Chargeurs has invested significant capital in retooling our Ohio factory to reshore production of PPE to America,” said Angela Chan, CEO and President of Chargeurs*PCC Fashion Technologies. “We have been supplying raw materials to the PPE market for years, so it made perfect sense to pivot to manufacturing these products in the USA, especially given the severe shortages of this equipment our country has seen since the start of the pandemic.”

AeroVironment Secures $8.4 Million Puma 3 AE Unmanned Aircraft Systems Foreign Military Sales Contract Award for US Ally

SIMI VALLEY, Calif., Oct. 13, 2020 – AeroVironment, Inc. (NASDAQ: AVAV), a global leader in unmanned aircraft systems (UAS), today announced it secured a $8,371,332 firm-fixed-price U.S. Department of Defense FMS contract award on September 25, 2020 for Puma™ 3 AE tactical UAS, training and support to an allied nation. Delivery is anticipated by March 2021.

The AeroVironment Puma 3 AE is a fully man-portable unmanned aircraft system designed for land and maritime operations. The hand-launched Puma 3 AE has a wingspan of 9.2 feet (2.8 meters), weighs 15 pounds (6.8 kilograms) and operates for up to 2.5 hours at line-of-sight range of 20 kilometers with a standard antenna, and up to 60 kilometers with AeroVironment’s Long-Range Tracking Antenna. Capable of landing in water or on land, the all-environment Puma, with its Mantis i45 sensor suite, empowers the operator with extended flight time and a level of imaging capability never before available in the tactical UAS class.

To expand operational range, AeroVironment’s Long-Range Tracking Antenna (LRTA) can be used with Puma 3 AE, and all other Digital Data Link (DDL) equipped UAS,  increasing line-of-sight command and control up to 60 kilometers. The LRTA features a directional antenna mounted on a tracking positioner that allows for automatic or manual tracking of an aircraft at an extended stand-off range. In addition, an omnidirectional antenna provides redundancy and 360-degree coverage with reduced range capabilities. MILVEHCOE Opening Establishes New Australian Sovereign Military Vehicle Capability

Rheinmetall is pleased to confirm the opening of its Military Vehicle Centre of Excellence (MILVEHCOE) in Redbank, Queensland, Australia and the establish¬ment of a new national sovereign military vehicle capability that enables the design, development and local manufacture of military vehicles, platforms and turrets for the Australian Defence Force (ADF) and export to like-minded nations.

The Prime Minister of Australia the Hon Scott Morrison MP officially opened the MILVEHCOE at a ceremony attended by a delegation of Federal MPs and Senators from across Queensland, representatives from Defence and Australian Defence industry.

The MILVEHCOE is an 11ha precinct incorporating a regional headquarters for Rheinmetall and a major manufacturing hub that will deliver vehicles into the ADF including Boxer 8×8 Combat Reconnaissance Vehicles (CRV) under Australia’s billion project Land 400 Phase 2 and high mobility logistics trucks under the Land 121 Phase 3B/5B program.

Rheinmetall AG Chief Executive Armin Papperger said the MILVEHCOE heralded a new era in Australian manufacturing as the company transferred technology and systems from Germany to establish a global hub for the continuous design, manufacture, export and support for military vehicles, platforms and turrets.

Mr Papperger said the MILVEHCOE’s export focus would also drive the sustainable growth of a military vehicle industry in Australia that would draw on an expanding supply network across the nation to deliver products and services from local industry into Rheinmetall’s Global Supply Chain.

“This state of the art MILVEHCOE establishes a leading edge military vehicle capability that will build on the strong partnership between Rheinmetall and the ADF,” Mr Papperger said.

“Moreover, it will enable Australian developed technology and systems to be exported to the world and opens the way for Australian companies to deliver into our programs for current and future nations including NATO members such as Germany and Hungary,” Mr Papperger said.

The MILVEHCOE precinct includes:
– Engineering and manufacturing for vehicles, turrets, weapons, armour, electronics and electro-optics and simulators;
– A vehicle test track and electromagnetic test chamber – used to confirm that vehicles meet the agreed performance specifications prior to delivery to the Australian Army;
– An indoor firing range – a fully-enclosed, state of the art firing range;
– A systems integration laboratory – used to integrate and optimise performance of Australian Army systems and equipment into the vehicles; and
– Facilities for engineering, training, procurement, project management, finance, legal, marketing and management.
Rheinmetall Defence Australia Managing Director Gary Stewart said the MILVEHCOE would transform the company’s ability to deliver for the ADF and Rheinmetall customers globally.

“This facility has dramatically advanced our business in Australia and the way we engage with the Australian Defence Force and industry,” Mr Stewart said.

“Once fully operational, it will enable the manufacture and sustainment of the Australian Army vehicle fleet of BOXER vehicles and provide a sovereign facility where Defence, industry and research organisations can innovate and collaborate on the Australian Boxer and other defence programs.

Rheinmetall is establishing an advanced manufacturing workforce of more than 450 employees within the MILVEHCOE precinct including highly skilled and qualified workers across a range of specialist disciplines.

“We are hiring welders, vehicle mechanics, systems and integration engineers, electro-optics technicians, software coders and developers and other specialisations,” Mr Stewart said.

“Rheinmetall continues to invest in people, technology, infrastructure, program management, supporting functions and industry networks so we can deliver some of the most complex and advanced programs in the world and meet the demands of customers for military vehicles, electronic systems, simulation, training and support.”

These programs will see the design, development, manufacture and sustainment of a world class military vehicles and a focus on research and development of vehicle technologies including autonomous systems and new civilian vehicle capabilities.

Rheinmetall is currently delivering 211 Boxer vehicles to the Australian Army under Land 400 Phase 2. The Boxer’s key purpose is to find the enemy; to identify them and choose how and when to engage.

The company is also delivering more than 2500 protected high mobility trucks to the Australian Army under the Land 121 Phase 3B program and building on this logistics backbone for the ADF by supplying a further 1000 trucks to the Commonwealth through the Land 121 Phase 3B/5B program.

Rheinmetall has also offered the Lynx KF41 – a tracked, highly protected Infantry Fighting Vehicle – to meet the stringent military requirements of the $15 billion Land 400 Phase 3 program. The Australian Army needs a new IFV for close combat – to close in and defeat an enemy in the most dangerous and lethal environments for Australian soldiers.

“Design, development and manufacture of the in Australia for the ADF will also build on the advanced manufacturing jobs at the MILVEHCOE as well as a strong industrial network of SMEs across Australia,” Mr Stewart said.
