SUMA Container from Solkoa

Friday, October 29th, 2010

Solkoa’s Ultralight Multi-purpose Aluminum (SUMA) container measures 2-1/2″w x 4″l x 1-1/2″d and is a great way to package your survival kit or other small items that need to be protected from crushing as well as the elements. It is machined from a solid billet of 6061 aluminum and then hard anodized and can be used for cooking in a pinch.

The SUMA container is available in a variety of finishes and can also be laser etched. Additionally, as you can see in the photo, special lids can be machined with raised symbols. However, a lot of guys using these are applying sticky Velcro to the lid and attaching a flag or other near recognition symbol to the face.

The Emergency Bra

Monday, September 27th, 2010

Not sure if this should be featured in a survival or a lingerie catalog, but either way, it will raise eyebrows. The new Emergency Bra combines support, good looks, and in an emergency it converts into two respiratory devices. The $30 price tag doesn’t seem overly exorbitant but as it’s only available in B and C cup sizes we are guessing the average wearer would be swimming in a D cup in gas mask mode. But, what a way to go.

It’s actually been around for awhile but has recently received some revived press coverage and we can see why. The Emergency Bra certainly catches the eye but does it work? We’re not really sure since the makers have not been very forthcoming about technical aspects such as types of filters and particulate size. However, we will know it is a hit if it makes it into the next James Bond film. Oh James…

98.6 Degrees: The Art of Keeping Your Ass Alive

Sunday, September 26th, 2010

98.6 Degrees: The Art of Keeping Your Ass Alive” is a book by Cody Lundin, director of the Aboriginal Living Skills School. While the title was published in 2003, the information is still just as pertinent today as when it was written. In fact, the book contains lessons that were learned by early man; proper mental attitude and keeping out of danger. Additionally, it contains an excellent section on survival kits. The book is written in an easy-to-read-style and well illustrated. It is well worth reading.

Lundin specializes in aboriginal studies as they pertain to living. In fact, you may have seen some of his unconventional techniques on the Discovery channel series, “Dual Survival”, where he co-stars with Army veteran Dave Canterbury. It is one of our favorite shows here at the home office. You might also want to check out his website, codylundin.com which tells more about his background and the courses he offers at the Aboriginal Living Skills School.

E&E Bags

Thursday, August 19th, 2010

Call them what you will, E&E bags, bug out bags, or satchels, they are a long way from the salvaged Claymore bag you used back in the 80s. In fact, the modern E&E Bag was first developed for Diamondback Tactical by the founder of Mayflower Research & Consulting in 2003 based on his military experience. Over the past few years, the original design has been copied and modified by a slew of manufacturers, even morphing into the Courier Bag requirement for USSOCOM. The item is far from static and even Mayflower has improved on that first design.

The latest bag to hit the market is the Terrorist Interdiction Bag (TIB) from One Source Tactical’s Technical Services Division. It is the first bag of its kind designed to accommodate AK magazines. As you can see in the photo below, the retention tabs have been specially designed to secure the AK30 magazine from US PALM. Naturally, it will also carry other similar sized including M4 magazines.

Available in Black, Coyote, and MultiCam.

What All of the Well Dressed PJs are Wearing

Tuesday, August 3rd, 2010

Pro Med Kits developed this CSAR ruck specifically for the Air Force PJs. For those of you who don’t know, CSAR stands for Combat Search and Rescue and that what the PJ’s life is all about, rescuing isolated personnel from certain capture at the hands of our adversaries. Since their mission is so demanding, they use very specialized equipment. Based on the popular Medium ALICE pack, the CSAR ruck is intended for down the hoist operations. It accepts MOLLE pouches and can be fitted to an ALICE frame which, as you can see leaves ample room for Hurst tools or litters. Additionally, it comes with a removable jump harness.

Berry compliant, the CSAR Ruck is available in Coyote and MultiCam. To order, visit www.promedkits.com.
