Thursday, January 7th, 2016Military guys will recognize the acronym. PACE stands for Primary, Alternate, Contingency, Emergency and that’s exactly what inventor Chris Way had in mind when he developed this waterbottle compatible lid.
The idea was to probide a handy place to store things like survival gear, or just mundane every day items such as keys and spare cash in an item that is regularly used. For many, that is a water bottle.
The water tight PACE lid is designed to attach to wide mouth Nalgene, MSR, and Klean Canteen bottles and is currently U.S. patent pending.

TacHacker – Macropatterned Fourier Camouflage
Sunday, September 6th, 2015There is currently a GoFundMe campaign to evaluate camouflage patterns.
For this project, we will derive color and Fourier (background environment) data from the urban terrain of our local campus, use them to compose two camouflage patterns, and print both onto fabric. One will be arranged into a branching pattern designed to cut apart and segment the shape of a person, with both a micropattern and a macropattern. The other will be randomized, with a micropattern that contains a wide range of element sizes.
The team conducting the project is based at New Mexico State University and consists of Nate Turner, a physics senior and undergraduate; Joni Cunningham, a physics undergraduate, and Jacob Wright, an engineering physics student with a concentration in electrical engineering.

Tachacker – Save Money On Combat Patches When The Transition To OCP Occurs

With the transition to OCP occurring on July 1st, chances are good there will be quite a few Military personnel out there with UCP patches they’ll have to replace with OCP variants, which can be pretty costly. However, a reader gave us a tip to share. If you take a generic yellow dry erase market to the foliage parts on a UCP patch, it ends up looking remarkably similar to an equivalent MultiCam color scheme patch. In the image above, the 173rd ABCT patch on the far right is an issued OCP patch, and the 44th Med BBG patches on the left are pre and post-marker.

Kickstarter – Forager’s Camp Knife
Monday, June 22nd, 2015The Forager’s Camp Knife is a current crowdfundimg campaign on Kickstarter. Made from 9Cr14MoV (440C) Stainless Steel, the full tang design offers an overall length of 12.5″ with a 7″ flat and hollow ground blade that measures .187″ (5mm) thick from the pommel all the way through to the flat ground chisel tip. Each knife is then dipped in a rust-preventative acid to give it a protective “stone-wash” finish.
It’s a little bit of a DIY project, if you want. You can get the Forager’s Camp Knife is available with a 550 cord wrapped handle, or you can make your own scales. Additionally, you can get one of two sheath styles: Nylon MOLLE or Custom Kydex. Or, once again, you can make your own.
They have already produced 50 of these knives and are now raising the required funds to have a larger quantity produced and according to sponsor, Kanoof Equipment, the knives offered in this campaign are ready and will be shipped as soon as this campaign is completed.

Tuesday, August 5th, 2014SG-20 is a dual component polyurethane adhesive that is durable and flexible. Sets in 1 minute and cures in an hour. Each kit is enough for up to 3 repairs and can be used on a variety of items including waders, all neoprene a including dive suits, tents, Gore-tex, etc.
It won’t stick to some PVCs and some hard plastics but it sounds like a great field repair kit addition. Shelf life is 18 months.
