Beat a Master Lock Most Rick Tick

Saturday, October 10th, 2009

Mark Edward Campos, a third year architecture student developed a great graphic on a method to defeat a Rotary Dial Master Lock. Of course the intent of all of this was to find out how a Master Lock works and not necessarily how to defeat it. Essentially, you determine the first number by pulling up on the latch while the dial is rotated. Next, a table of all possible first and second number combinations has been calculated for you. Then you tough it out and attempt the one hundred combinations or so left.

Hack A Day had previously published an article on this method but suggested that using a shim made from an aluminum can is preferable. It is a lot faster. I thought our readers might be interested from a security perspective in this video of the shim method.

Modern Day Marine Round Up

Monday, October 5th, 2009

There were a lot of great products at last week’s Modern Day Marine expo at Quantico, Virginia.

Wilcox Industries showed their new interface for the Ops-Core mount.

Speaking of Ops-Core, they debuted several new products available in early 2010. This eye shield was actually developed a couple of years ago but placed on hold while they refined the FAST technology for a military customer. The lens slides up and down on a track located inside the shell. It will replace the front brow pad inside the helmet as a unit and is ready to go awaiting production of the actual clear shield which will be manufactured by Oakley.

BTS Files Patent for High Gear System

Thursday, August 27th, 2009

Blauer Tactical Systems USA, LLC, recently filed a U.S. patent application for innovations associated with its popular HIGH GEARâ„¢ training suit. BTS is one of the world’s leading consulting companies specializing in the research and development of close quarter tactics & scenario-based training for law enforcement, military and professional self-defense instructors.

BTS High Gear

BTS is world renowned for their scenario-based training programs that employ a proprietary and revolutionary training suit. The suit can be used with multiple methods of scenario-based training (marking-cartridge training, DT, combatives, self-defense, etc.). The suit is lightweight, provides full mobility, and uses a unique impact reduction design, allowing role-players to engage in realistic and integrated scenarios. Military units, SWAT teams, law enforcement agencies and martial art and MMA schools around the world currently use the HIGH GEARâ„¢ system.

“Our focus, our mission and our path have not wavered since we began teaching real-world self-defense in 1979,” said Tony Blauer, President. “We always seek to maintain our position as a leader in reality-based training for the self-defense world and obtaining a patent helps to recognize and affirm that leadership.”

Nicholas Horbaczewski, Blauer’s Chief Operating Officer, said, “We are proud of our innovative designs and features with our HIGH GEAR™ system, which we continue to improve. Seeking protection for our latest evolutionary enhancements allows us to continue as the exclusive provider of the best training suit on the market today.”

Personal Defense Readiness Website

Wednesday, August 12th, 2009

Blauer Tactical Systems (BTS) has just launched a website for its Personal Defense Readiness™ division. The new site, pdrteam.com, is a portal for everything related to BTS’s Personal Defense Readiness (PDR) program and also serves as a resource for PDR coaches around the world to connect, share training tips, and network with one another.

The site has two interfaces: one public portal for those interested in personal safety, as well as information for martial artists and self-defense instructors as well as a second private section for certified PDR coaches. This section will include:

• Training Videos
• A Map of PDR Coaches Worldwide
• Personal Defense Training Tips
• The Latest Listing of PDR Courses
• Information on Becoming a PDR Coach

Renowned self-defense specialist Tony Blauer developed the PDR program for the general public. PDR is based on the S.P.E.A.R. (Spontaneous Protection Enabled Accelerated Response) Systemâ„¢, which is the only self-defense method that fully integrates the body’s reflexive responses and instinctive survival mechanisms.

PDR training provides realistic self-defense skills that are street applicable and integrates well with all martial arts and self defense programs. Students are exposed to aggressive, as well as defensive role-playing to simulate encounters and prepare them to react ethically and decisively to real-life aggression. The program also centers on BTS research on fear management, leading to greater self-knowledge and personal evolution. Consistent training also helps with achieving overall physical fitness, improved strength, cardiovascular conditioning, weight management and coordination.

Blauer & Pincus To Present Combined Course

Tuesday, August 4th, 2009

The founders of Blauer Tactical Systems and I.C.E. Training Company will team up November 2-3, 2009, in Virginia Beach, Virginia to offer a tactical workshop that blends essential & fundamental skills from both Combat Focus Shooting and the S.P.E.A.R. System’s Personal Defense Program. This dynamic two day course addresses armed and unarmed confrontations.

Rob Pincus conducting training

The S.P.E.A.R. SYSTEM (Spontaneous Protection Enabling Accelerated Response) is a scientifically researched and medically reviewed personal defense measure that exploits the body’s natural responses to violence and danger. This survival mechanism, dubbed the Startle-Flinch Response has been scientifically integrated into a series of neuro-muscular drills that teaches individuals how to convert their instinctive reactions into protective and combative tactics.

The Combat Focus Shooting (CFS) Program is an intuitive shooting program that is designed to work efficiently with the body’s natural reactions during a dynamic critical incident. This approach makes CFS Skills easy to learn and maintain for students of all backgrounds, military, law enforcement or self-defense.

Unlike many traditional programs, CFS does not take a purely mechanical approach to shooting training in isolation from the context in which the skill must be used. CFS is not simply “point shooting,” it is a training methodology that leads to more efficient defensive shooting skill.

This two-day course will take place at the Blauer Training Facility and on a live-fire range. The course is $450.00 and is open to military, security and law enforcement personnel, as well as those interested in personal defense. (Background checks will be conducted.) Students should bring a firearm, holster, three magazines and 600 rounds of ammunition.

New Anti-Fog Visor for Blauer High Gear Equipment

Wednesday, July 15th, 2009

Blauer Tactical

HIGH GEAR, the world’s most dynamic training equipment for combatives and force-on-force training has begun production and distribution of a new ‘anti-fog’ visor. What makes HIGH GEAR so superior to other products is that you can move in the suit and while it protects you from injury, you still feel the hits which allows you to learn more from drills.

HIGH GEAR from Blauer Tactical Systems

This new Anti-Fog Visor further increases realism associated with use of HIGH GEAR. The wearer will retain the benefits of full face protection but will not suffer such hindrances as decreased vision and hearing.

While HIGH GEAR is used extensively for training by all of our armed services, it’s best known and used to support the U.S Army’s Modern Army Combatives Program (MAC-P). HIGH GEAR serves many purposes, but its most important function is to provide an important layer of safety during realistic scenario training. It can be used for combatives and force-on-force drills like ECP procedures, vehicle extractions, as well as all aspects of detainee handling. HIGH GEAR can also be used for FTX’s where marking cartridge projectiles like Simunitions, UTM, and AirSoft are used.

With the huge popularity of MMA within the military, HIGH GEAR can also be used to increase safety during sparring and pure MMA-type training.

Armatura

Wednesday, July 8th, 2009

Armatura

Tactical Assault Gear’s CEO, Chris Osman and an unnamed business partner have announced the founding of Armatura, a new, joint training venture to provide instruction in combat pistol, combat rifle tactics, urban Sniper, vehicular tactics, as well as shooting with NVG’s using IR and Thermal aiming devices. Courses have also been developed for combat clearance tactics.

Armatura has acquired a range and training facility in New England that is located only 20 minutes from hotels, restaurants, and downtown recreation. Located on a former National Guard range, the facility features concrete butts allowing students to safely mark targets and is 200 yards long and 70 yards wide. The backstop of the range is 150 feet high and 80 yards wide and a steel pistol section is set up on the side of the range. The staff of Armatura have customized the targets to resemble a human more than the standard square piece of steel found on most ranges. The steel targets are specially designed with a custom feature for heat signature training at night with thermal optics. Finally, there are vehicles on the range to use for shooting from vehicles as well as for use of cover and firing drills.

Range access is controlled by Armatura and is not visible or accessible to the public. Additionally, no cameras are allowed on the facility. Classes will not be taught to civilians and will only be available to active duty Law Enforcement, Military, and DOD personnel with vetted credentials. Approved students will be happy to hear that they will not have to police brass or arrange targets during the courses which will be accomplished by the Armatura staff. Additionally, complimentary food and refreshments for the last day of each course will be provided for an after action meet and great with fellow students and instructors.

The Armatura was the weapons drill taught to both Roman soldiers and gladiators by skilled instructors and was fundamental to both the training and fighting skills of the Roman soldier. Even if he never actually fought an enemy, a Soldier would practice the Armatura every day.

Armatura held a walk through of the facility and capabilities demonstration three weeks ago. Since then they have signed a contract with a Government Agency, fully booking them until February of 2010. For information please call Chris Osman’s Personal Assistant Amanda Lehrer at 619-210-5956.
