Relentless Speed: Leupold Announces New VX-Freedom Red Dot Sight (RDS)

January 16th, 2019

BEAVERTON, Ore. — Leupold & Stevens, Inc., has announced the arrival of the new VX-Freedom RDS (Red Dot Sight), a game-changing new red dot that’s built tough, performs in extreme conditions, and won’t break the bank. The RDS is everything you need in a red dot and delivers class-leading reliability – and it’s built in the United States at Leupold’s Beaverton, Ore., factory.

A tubular red dot sight built for recreational shooters and hunters alike, the RDS will be available in two distinct models: One features capped precision ¼-MOA click adjustments, the other a precision exposed BDC elevation turret that ships with measurements out to 500 yards for standard 55-grain .223 Rem. ammunition. The RDS is designed to install easily with an included mount that sits at the optimal sight height for use on AR-style rifles. That said, it can also be removed and mounted using any 34mm rings.

“Consumers have been asking for an American-made, value-priced red dot for as long as we’ve been in the marketplace,” said Tim Lesser, Vice President of Product Development for Leupold & Stevens, Inc. “The Freedom RDS delivers on that task and more, bringing with it innovative features like the custom BDC elevation turret, allowing end-users to easily dial up for longer shots.”

Both models of the Freedom RDS feature a 1 MOA dot reticle that’s supported by Leupold’s battery-saving Motion Sensor Technology (MST), which puts the sight into a battery-saving standby mode after five minutes of inactivity. When the MST detects motion, it instantly activates the sight, so it’s ready when you are. A manual mode allows the sight to be shut off when not in use.

The scratch-resistant lenses feature Leupold’s Twilight Red Dot System, which delivers standard color consistency and premium lens clarity. The RDS is 100 percent fogproof and waterproof and features 80-MOA of adjustment in both elevation and windage. A 34mm maintube design measures at under 5.5 inches and weighs less than 7 ounces. Its lightweight design helps increase its rugged reliability.

“The RDS features lightweight construction that disperses recoil energy and creates unrivaled durability,” said John Snodgrass, Product Line Manager for Leupold & Stevens, Inc. “It’s been tested and verified on our Punisher, and it absolutely lives up to Leupold’s legendary standards for ruggedness. It won’t fail you, at the range or in the field.”

Both RDS models are designed, machined, and assembled in the United States and backed by Leupold’s legendary Full Lifetime Guarantee.

Hush Puppy Project Brings Back Hush Puppy Pistols, Silencers and Ammunition

January 16th, 2019

The Hush Puppy Project®, in conjunction with Super Vel ammunition, will be releasing a Smith & Wesson M&P 2.0 9mm based pistol featuring a patent pending Slide Locking Device (SLD) at SHOT show 2019.  To take full advantage of the locked breech capabilities of the pistol, a new silencer design (the Model 1) featuring modular components and hybrid technology will be released at the same time.  The pistol and silencer have been specifically tuned to provide maximum signature reduction with Super Vel’s Hush Puppy 147 grain FMJ subsonic ammunition.

Hush Puppy’s® M&P 2.0 pistol can be fired in semi-automatic or locked breech mode.  With the SLD engaged, the slide is restricted from cycling, thus eliminating all mechanical sounds of the gun and directing all gasses through the silencer. The original use of a slide lock device was on the Mk 22 Mod 0 pistol fielded by the U.S. Navy SEALs in Vietnam; it was also based on a S&W pistol (Model 39) and was commonly known as the “Hush Puppy.”  In addition to a Hush Puppy® slide lock device, the M&P pistol comes with a factory threaded barrel and factory suppressor height sights.

Available separately, but designed for, the Hush Puppy® pistol is a modular silencer of novel design incorporating both mono core- and wipe-style sound reduction systems. This hybrid design is comprised of three modules and is called the Hush Puppy® Model 1 silencer. The modular design allows for the silencer to be shot in multiple configurations including a hearing safe K configuration and multiple dry and wet wipe configurations for maximum sound reduction.  This unparalleled modularity has been dubbed “Tunable Technology” and allows the shooter to tailor the silencer to varying levels of size, weight and sound reduction based on their needs.

Lastly, the Hush Puppy Project’s sister company, Super Vel Ammunition®, manufactured the original subsonic Mark 144 9mm Luger ammunition for the Mk 22 Mod 0 pistol from 1967 to 1973.  Building on this experience, the modernized Hush Puppy® pistol and Model 1 silencer are designed to function best with Super Vel’s Hush Puppy 147 gr. FMJ subsonic ammunition.  Also available is a special purpose 115 grain subsonic EXPANDING Solid Copper Hollow Point loading for the Model 1 K can configuration (not for use with the Model 1 wipe modules).

Hush Puppy Project products will be exclusively distributed by Lipsey’s.  Come see the new products at Super Vel’s SHOT show booth 1720 or at Lipsey’s booth 11329. Hush Puppy® is a registered trademark. The Hush Puppy Project® and Lipsey’s are based in Baton Rouge, La. www.hushpuppyproject.com   info@hushpuppyproject.com

Mauser 18 Now Available in 6.5 PRC

January 16th, 2019

San Antonio, Texas (January 15, 2019) – Mauser’s award-winning Mauser 18 bolt-action rifle is now available in a 6.5 PRC chambering with prices starting at $699.

Recognized for its accuracy and ruggedness at an exceptional price point, this popular hunting rifle is among the first chambered for Hornady’s hot new 6.5 PRC cartridge.  The 6.5 PRC is a magnum version of the 6.5 Creedmoor and has a flatter trajectory and higher impact velocity than the 6.5 Creedmoor.  Utilizing moderate powder charges that result in repeatable accuracy, low recoil and high velocities with performance well beyond 1,000 yards, the 6.5 PRC is an excellent caliber for F-Class benchrest shooting and hunting medium to large game.

“The Mauser 18 is a big seller here in the United States because of its ultimate reliability, durability and accuracy at an unbeatable price point,” said Christian Socher, CEO of Blaser USA.  “We wanted to add the 6.5 PRC chambering as an additional caliber option for those who hunt and shoot at longer ranges.”

Thanks to its rugged synthetic stock, the Mauser 18 will withstand daily use in even the harshest hunting environments.  A three-position safety allows you to safely carry a round in the chamber without fear of the bolt being nudged out of battery. The steel receiver provides core strength and reliability to protect the action, and a cold-hammer-forged barrel gives further peace of mind that the rifle will perform consistently, round after round.

For optimum grip, the stock features two areas of soft-inlay.  The five-round magazine enables fast, fuss-free follow-up shots, and an adjustable trigger allows you to set your own preferred pull weight. Clean lines and high-quality materials result in a premium appearance, so that overall, the Mauser 18 has the look and feel of a rifle twice its price.

In addition to the 6.5 PRC chambering, the Mauser 18 is also available in .243 Win, .308 Win, .270 Win, .30-06, 7mm Rem Mag, .300 Win Mag and 6.5 Creedmoor.
