ATF Associate Deputy Director Suggests Lifting Many Firearms Regulations

February 6th, 2017

Earlier today the Washington Post referenced an 11-page white paper, written by a high-ranking official at the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Ronald B Turk who is Associate Deputy Director (Chief Operating Officer) at the ATF.

What is so interesting about this document, Titled “Options to Reduce or Modify Firearms Regulations” and dated 20 January, 2017, is its content. Turk suggests wide sweeping reforms for gun laws and most would be welcomed by gun owners and the industry which services them. However, this document was clearly marked “Not for public distribution” and was intended to stir internal government dialogue. Considering the source of the public disclosure (WaPo) we have to contemplate that its leak was intended to shock rather than inspire the public.

It’s topics would have never been considered privately, let alone publicly during the Obama Administration. Here is a list compiled by JF, a member of a Facebook group considered with NFA law.

1. New Federal Firearms Licensees (FFL) Dealing Exclusively at Gun Shows (or internet)

2. Creating a better process to approve pending requests for AP Ammo from manufacturers

3. Importing Surplus Firearms from Foreign Countries

4. Variances for SOTs to transfer Post-1986 machine guns without Demo Letters

5. Stabilizing Brace, creating a more consistent ruling

6. Commission a study on “Sporting Purposes” to comply with modern needs

7. Create a database of previous ATF rulings

8. “Legalizing” Silencers, citing expense of regulation. Change definition on “Silencer Parts”

9. Interstate Sale of Firearms at Gun shows

10. Destructive Devices, distinguishing between launcher and munitions

11 & 12. Demand letters to FFLs involving guns used in crimes

13. Changing requirement of FFL recording keeping from 20 years to indefinite

14. Allowing greater use of NICS by FFLs

15. Requiring ATF director to be confirmed by Senate

16. Reviewing a long list of Regs for Removal/Amendment

The only one which will probably create outcry from gun owners is #13 which recommends extending ATF record keeping to indefinite from 20 years. Everything else has some up at some time or another as things gun owners and industry want. Obviously, this document isn’t an official ATF policy position, but it’s a great place to start a conversation when someone wants to discuss “common sense” gun laws.

We have also shared a copy of this document in the event it is taken down by WaPo.

Armageddon Gear and Reasor Precision Solutions Announce Manufacturing Of Game Changer Support Bag

February 6th, 2017

Armageddon Gear and Reasor Precision Solutions have announced a manufacturing agreement which will meet market demand for the Game Changer support bag. If you’re a precision-rifle shooter, you proably either own a Game Changer, or you want one. The problem is that they haven’t bern available. All of that is changing now that Armageddon Gear is manufacturing, selling, and distributing these.

This thing is cool! You can strap it directly to your rifle and its design allows you to get a stable shooting platform on some really odd shaped perches. It will straddle roof peaks, window sills and wall tops as well as rock formations. Here, you can even see it atop an uneven tree stump.

Still not convinced? Check out this video review from a satisfied, yet unaffiliated, user.

Available in Coyote Brown, MultiCam and two-tone Coyote Brown/Ranger Green.

EZ Accuracy – New AR-15 Gas Block Dimple Tool

February 6th, 2017

IMG_1871

EZ Accuracy introduces innovative and simple tool to dimple AR-15 barrels when installing gas blocks that have set screws.

WARMINSTER, Pennsylvania- 2Feb2017- EZ Accuracy, a full service gunsmith shop, announced today the release of a simple-to-use tool that helps AR-15 builders properly dimple their barrels to accept set screws that keep the gas block from moving. This is a step that many builders skip due to the fact that locating the proper location to drill the dimples can be a difficult and nerve-racking task. Putting the dimple in the wrong place can mean having to go with a different style gas block or in a worst case scenario, ruining your barrel. We feel that ensuring a gas block cannot move is essential in the continued reliability of your AR platform.

While there are tools on the market that accomplish this task, they are all proprietary to a certain gas block. Unless you are a shop that always use the same gas block, it’s not very economical to spend money on the tool. As a shop that installs a large variety of gas blocks, EZ Accuracy came up with a simple and fast way to install any block that uses a 10-32 sized screw. “Gas blocks are very easy to slide onto the barrel but can become tricky when machining so that the block will not shift. Many AR builders will skip this step out of fear of placing the dimple in the wrong place. I have used this method for years and I’m now offering the tools at a price that’s a fraction of the price of gas block tools available on the market”, says Eric Feldman, owner and gunsmith at EZ Accuracy.

Using this system is simple. Install your gas block using the manufactures instructions. When you are sure the block is in the proper location, remove one set screw and install the EZ Accuracy screw. From here you can slide the supplied marking pin through the center of the screw and tap to center punch the dimple location. Now you can remove the marking pin and lightly drill through the screw using a 1/8” drill bit. When you have your dimple, replace the set screw and repeat with the remaining set screws until complete.

At $14 with free shipping, the tool is well worth checking out. It is available directly from EZ Accuracy’s website at www.ezaccuracy.com.
