Nightforce Optics is excited to announce the inaugural Nightforce Precision Tactical 2 Rifle Match. This competition will be a blend of the rifle component of 3-Gun and target engagements known to competitors of the Precision Rifle Series (PRS). The match is to be held August 27-28, 2016 across the expansive natural terrain of the NRA Whittington Center in Raton, NM. Running the match are Denise and JJ Johnson, who have much experience from running the world famous Rocky Mountain 3 Gun match.
The match format will consist of 10 stages, with shooters running both a carbine and precision rifle on each stage. Close to 300 yard targets will be engaged with the carbine, while precision rifles will engage steel to 1000 yards. Estimated minimum round counts will be 200rds from the carbine and 100rds from the precision rifle.
“We are thrilled to partner with Denise and JJ for this event, as we feel this is a unique match concept that will appeal to shooters from both multigun and precision rifle,” says Sean Murphy, Marketing Project Manager and shooter for Nightforce Optics. “I think competitors will enjoy using their favorite carbine on targets from up close to 300 yards, and then transitioning to a precision rifle out to 1000 yards on every stage. The Whittington Center is a perfect choice for this event, with the unlimited potential for exciting stages shot across their corner of the Rocky Mountains.”

The last time we posted this in July, 2014 there were some interesting comments.
The Team USA RWB (Red, White, and Blue) Plate Carrier was made by Fayetteville-based Gellman Gear Tactical as a small run for a specific group. Recently, they posted an auction on eBay for a custom version made to order for the winner. It was listed as being made from 1000D nylon with MilSpec elastic/webbing, buckles, and thread, removable shoulder pads, and a three (3) cell pouch “sized for 12-24 oz canned beverages”, built around the SAPI plate size requested. Although that auction has ended, don’t fret – there may be more of these carriers available at an undisclosed time if Gellman is able to source the proper hardware.

Yesterday, we published a story about Gibbz Arms’ new GAMA attachmemt system and their contact with licensees of Magpul’s M-Lok attachment, soliciting them to license their product. This is Magpul’s response.
It has come to our attention that Gibbz Arms claims to have a utility patent application pending for an accessory attachment system for firearms, which they refer to as the “GAMA” system, and that they have recently issued a press release implying that companies that use the M-LOK system will need to pay for a license. However, we also note that this patent application wasn’t filed until September of 2015, which was long after Magpul filed for and obtained its own utility patents for the M-LOK system, and long after Magpul released its own M-LOK products to the market. Gibbz Arms appears be trying to impermissibly backdate its untimely utility patent application based on a prior design patent application that Gibbz filed in early 2013 for an ornamental design directed to a left-handed T-Nut. This 2013 design patent application was not publicly available until earlier this year.
Magpul expects that this attempted back-dating will be unsuccessful over the long run, and that Gibbz Arms will not be able to establish that its utility patent application was timely filed. The Gibbz utility patent filing includes broad proposed claims directed towards functions that are outside the scope of what is disclosed in its prior application for an ornamental design. Regardless, the pending claims in this utility application should not be assumed to be granted—the merits of the patent still need to be determined by the U.S. Patent &Trademark Office. Magpul fully expects that Gibbz Arms will not be successful in obtaining and maintaining a valid utility patent that will pose a concern for users of the M-LOK system. Magpul is also committed to taking whatever action is necessary, including challenges before the Patent & Trademark Office and in Federal District Court, to ensure that users of the M-LOK system continue to have complete freedom to operate without interference from, or the need to obtain a license demanded by, Gibbz Arms.
Lightweight Design for High-Speed First Responder Assaults
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Protech Tactical announced today the expansion of its Entry shield series with the addition of the Entry 1 First Responder (FR). NIJ 0108.01 type IIIA tested, the Entry 1 FR is designed for high-speed, first responder assaults at only 15lbs (7kg) and provides protection against a wide spectrum of handgun threats. The Entry 1 can be utilized for one-man coverage or for team mission maneuvers.
“The Entry 1 FR is a shield that every agency should have in their arsenal,” said Dan McNeil, Director of Tactical Armor. “Designed specifically with the first responder in mind, its shape, weight and ballistic protection make it a department essential.”
The Entry 1 FR is comprised of advanced composite, high performance polyethylene fiber. With a 18-degree curved design, it is ideal for high-speed entry coverage with its added wraparound protection from angled shots and maximized peripheral vision through the 4”x10” viewport. The cut-out silhouette at the top of the shield allows for long weapon deployment and support. Other features include an ambidextrous, three-position handle with an additional forearm strap for stability and support. A quick release breakaway shoulder strap can be used for added maneuverability, allowing for quick donning and doffing in emergency situations.
The Entry 1 FR is available for sale to the military and law enforcement community. The shield measures 24”x36” and is available in black. Visit www.safariland.com/protech-tactical.com for more information.
