SHOT Show – Vertx Working with Industrial Alchemy to Produce Packs and Bags

January 16th, 2013

SHOT Show 2013 marks Vertx’s move into packs and bags. They’ve teamed with design house Industrial Alchemy. Industrial Alchemy has been around for about 10 years and does a lot of work in the core outdoor industry. In fact, they worked on the old SDS commercial line. That means you are going to see some cross over of outdoor into tactical designs.

Colors are both earth tones as well as Kryptek patterns. While final color decisions remain, you can be assured that their will be great options for blending in.

These are design concepts that will give you an idea of what they will be offering. They are concentrating on a smooth, no obtrusive exterior with a ton of features built in. Sure, there’s PALS webbing behind the flaps of this sling bag. But what you won’t see here is the secret sauce behind the PALS behind the flaps. We’ll leave that for a later time.

These prototype sling bags are very well executed. You’d think they were production models.

These use installed mag wells are compatible with factory GLOCK +2 baseplates and copies, Arredondo +2 and +5 extensions, Magpul Speedplates, as well as Dawson Precision’s excellent extended tool-less magazine extensions and Ez-Off baseplates.

They’re almost there and hopefully we’ll see these late Spring.

What’s New with HSP?

January 16th, 2013

Yesterday, I had a chance to sit down with Travis Haley and his team to talk about HSP for 2013. There’s a whole lot going on and unfortunately, I am only able to share a little bit of what we will see.

20130116-003132.jpg

One of the things that I appreciate about Haley Strategic Partners is that they work with others in industry to introduce new products and technologies. Case in point is the new INCOG IWB Holster System developed in conjunction with G-code.

These are rolling off the assembly line and although not shown here, models for the M&P will soon join the GLOCK holsters already out there.

20130116-003247.jpg

Additionally, HSP is working with Inforce to introduce a new version of their handheld light. I got to play with it a little bit and the ribbed section in the middle really increases the utility of the light.

Additionally, I’d look out for a new mobility training course as well as some very specialized pieces of kit in addition to a few items that virtually everyone will want to try. Hopefully, they’ll share their plans sooner rather than later.

SHOT Show – PHATS Suit

January 16th, 2013

Parachutists High Altitude Thermal Suit developed jointly with Airborne Systems and Wild Things. Initially, it was developed for a French requirement but refinements were made at the request of Natick and USSOCOM. Offered in XXSmall through XXLarge but its oversized to fit over the jumper’s clothing and basic equipment.

20130115-173920.jpg

PHATS has been highly tuned for use by free fall parachutists. For example, there are multiple zippered vents so that the jumper doesn’t overheat on the ground or on the flight. Additionally, the front of the PHATS has less insulation than the rear since the parachutist will have equipment on his front. They made this change after jumpers from multiple units found that the insulation could be removed. Where insulated, it features gridded fleece. Additionally, it’s a softshell for wind and weather resistance.

As you can see, it covers the entire body except for the head to accommodate a helmet an oxygen mask. The coverall design even covers the feet for insulation as well as to mitigate wind resistance issues. There is a waist adjustment that is covered by the front opening and the main opening features a flap with magnetic closures. Gauntlet-style handcovers are also integrated into the design. Additionally, the rear of the legs feature clear pouches for chemlights. This allows jumpers to recognize one another in the air. Finally, there is an external forearm pocket on the left sleeve and large zippered cargo pockets.

SHOT Show – Crye Precision Fundraiser Shirt 2013

January 16th, 2013

Each year Crye Precision sells a shirt during SHOT Show to raise money for military charities. This is 2013’s design. I’d say it speaks for itself.
