January 13th, 2013

SureFire announced yesterday on their Facebook page that the iconic Paul Kim is leaving the firm after 19 years of service. Many do not know that PK as he is known was the design force behind the now defunct Icon lights. It was a great spin-off brand but unfortunately never caught an audience.

After 19 years of service with SureFire and countless contributions, Paul Kim has decided to leave SureFire to pursue other opportunities. Paul Kim has been the Vice President of Engineering since the earliest days of the company. He holds over 40 patents dating back to the 1980s, and many of his innovations are integrated into just about every modern flashlight. He was a pioneer in the industry, and has created some of the best-engineered and most revered illumination products ever made. Everyone at SureFire thanks Paul for his many years of service, and we wish him only the best in his latest pursuits.

StraightJacket Barrel System from Teludyne Tech Ind

January 13th, 2013

The StraightJacket Barrel System from Teludyne Tech Ind is a thermal management technology that conducts heat away from the barrel and increases barrel rigidity resulting in increased accuracy and service life.

Comparative analysis of the Teludyne URG1 placed side by side to a match grade M4 resulted in cold bore accuracy improving by 75% right out of the box, and after firing 120 rounds in 2 minutes, accuracy improved by 671%. Subsequently, at 600 meters, the URG1 grouped at 7.07 inches versus the match grade M4s 54 inches tested 15 minutes after 220 rounds of rapid fire. A thorough validation of TTI’s accuracy claims has been conducted, documented and published by both TTI and by H.P. White Laboratory, Inc.

In addition to incorporating this technology into a wide variety of weapons applications including for the US Olympic Biathlon team, Teludyne has released the Sine Pari Upper Receiver Group in both carbine and SBR lengths. Additionally, it integrates their Muzzle Recoil Compensator.

SOTech Debuts Road Warrior Bag at SHOT Show

January 12th, 2013

SOTech’s Jim Cragg showed me the Road Warrior at last month’s SOMA conference in Tampa. He developed the bag because he’s always on the road and was looking for a bag that he could keep packed with the all of the essentials between trips. He described it as being “For the traveler who is living from trip to trip.”

Road-Warrior

It has pockets for passport/tickets and a travel wallet, power strip and electronics chargers, first aid and road survival items and hygiene items. External Velcro for patches, clear slot for business cards and ID, and MOLLE/PALS for shock cording on a travel towel or attaching pouches for cameras or other chosen travel items. This bag can sit in a sock drawer waiting for the next trip. Just grab the bag with some clean clothes, throw them into a day pack and you are on the road (or you are sitting in the truck waiting for your less organized buddies searching for their travel toothbrush and passport). Its also great when you have to check out of hotels and all of your gear has a designated pocket for easy ID of missing items. Check out this SOTECH innovation out at booth 20113 at SHOT.

Stupid Can Hurt, All of Us

January 12th, 2013

Ok, I’ve tried to not pass judgement on James Yeager gun ban tirade but his actions have brought some serious heat unto himself, and by extension law abiding pro-gun advocates. I understand the frustration behind his sentiment, it’s his actions that are most questionable. After posting a widely circulated video on the internet saying that he would “start killing people” if the President enacted executive orders that would restrict gun rights, the state of Tennessee has revoked his CCW license. This is already some pretty serious business on the surface. But after reading this statement, I’d say that he is on double secret probation and being used as unwitting fodder for the opposition.

“The number one priority for our department is to ensure the public’s safety. Mr. Yeager’s comments were irresponsible, dangerous, and deserved our immediate attention. Due to our concern, as well as that of law enforcement, his handgun permit was suspended immediately. We have notified Mr. Yeager about the suspension today via e-mail. He will receive an official notification of his suspension through the mail,” Department of Safety and Homeland Security Commissioner Bill Gibbons said in a statement to Newschannel5.com.

I hope Yeager, and others reflect on how his actions have contributed to a negative perception of the pro-2A community and consider any future actions in light of how they might be negatively perceived before acting. I’m not saying to remain silent or to not take positive actions toward maintaining our rights. I’m saying, consider any possible repercussions of your actions. Always ask yourself, “Is the juice worth the squeeze?” There are positive actions and negative actions. Let’s stay positive people.
