Combat Humidor On Location With Panteao Productions

December 20th, 2012

Here, Panteao Productions front man Fernando Coelho gives you an inside look at the Combat Humidor.

The Combat Humidor is a durable travel humidor that is made from a US GI Ammo Can lined with 100% Spanish cedar, to create a twin double sealing and waterproof environment in which to store cigars. The Combat Humidor will float, survive small shrapnel, and general abuse. It will hold between 18 to 25 cigars depending on length and gauge.

HUMIDIFIER: DRYMISTAT TUBE
Precharged and ready to go, this compact (about the size of the average cigar) and reusable humidifier tube works well anywhere—a wooden cigar box, a plastic container, a cookie jar, even inside a three-finger travel cigar case… and, of course, a humidor. Containing absorbent crystals, the DryMistat can be filled with distilled (or even plain tap) water and humidifies as many as 50 cigars for up to three months before refill.

In the early morning hours of 20 December, 1989 US forces began Operation Just Cause which resulted in the liberation of the nation of Panama from the Noriega regime.

Hats off to the mean and women who participated in that combat action and a moment of silence for the Americans and innocent Panamanians who lost their lives.

Use Your Boots to Start a Fire

December 20th, 2012

Yeah, I know. It sounds crazy doesn’t it? Well, it’s not crazy of you have a pair of new Rocky S2V Substratum Direct Attach Hikers.

To make a fire, just remove your boot and pull out the foot-bed. In a recess beneath the footbed rests a firesparker and wetcubes from Ultimate Survival Technologies. .

The Sparkie is a one-handed emergency fire starter that weighs less than one ounce. It also comes packaged with two WetFire tinder cubes.

But these aren’t just a vessel for a cool firestarter. Unveiled at Summer OR, Rocky offers an upper made from nubuck leather and ripstop nylon with a polyurethane rand wrapped around the toe and heel. They’ve also included 550 cord laces for additional survival applications.

The Substratum Direct Attach Hiker also features a moisture-wicking lining and Hydro IQ (waterproof/air circulation). Additionally, it is insulated with Aerotherm® Aerogel insulation and PrimaLoft® insulation in targeted sections of the boot. Here’s another cool survival component. The antimicrobial insole has been made in a bright, fuchsia color; not only will it suppress odors and cushion your feet, but can also be used to signal for help.

And Cut…

December 20th, 2012

It seems the news cycle for the Newtown tragedy has played out. As if on cue, the President appoints a special commission to make recommendations for additional gun control targeting so-called assault weapons and the 24 hour news coverage surrounding the tragic murder of 27 in Newtown, Connecticut last Friday abruptly ends. There’s definitely an agenda at play. For some it’s a desire to ban guns, but for others it’s all about ratings. Shock and awe isn’t just about invading a country. It’s about captivating and manipulating an audience.

Now that the propaganda and demonizing has died down, we can begin to learn the truth of what happened and consider some real solutions. For example, we are unsure of the shooter’s state of mind. Despite wild aspersions by the news media, we have no idea if violent video games played a role in the tragedy and we continue to see conflicting reports on what weapons the killer actually used. The last one is most perplexing considering the horrific event was almost a week ago.

I look at this issue as bigger than gun violence and I encourage all of you to do so as well. Over the next month we will begin to see facts emerge. Hopefully, no matter what they turn out to be, they will help guide a substantive dialogue regarding these tragedies as the Nation works toward a set of solutions.

I’ll Just Leave This Right Here

US Army Seeks to Replace Improved CVC with Enhanced Model

December 20th, 2012

The US Army is looking for qualified vendors with improvements to the improved Combat Vehicle Crewman (iCVC) coverall that may be utilized to develop design and specification enhancements for the new enhanced Combat Vehicle Crewman (eCVC).

In this US Army photo you can see the current iCVC which saw evolutionary improvements over the previous legacy design which goes back to at least the 1970s. It is an FR one-piece garment that is also issued in OCP (MultiCam).

The Sources Sought Notice released yesterday by the Natick SSC Contracting Office on behalf of US Army Product Manager, Soldier Clothing and Individual Equipment (PM-SCIE) eCVC will consolidate the capability requirements of the one-piece improved Combat Vehicle Crewman (iCVC) Coverall into a single uniform and other enhancements over the current iCVC.

The eCVC shall be a two piece uniform ensemble which can be joined together creating a one piece coverall which does not compromise FR protection.

The eCVC two piece configurations shall allow the Mounted Soldier the ability to have more functional movement in a dismounted position with a full combat load and utilize the Army Combat Shirt (ACS) when in a dismounted operation, as well as reduce heat burden.

The big issue here is that they want to make the CVC a two-piece garment that can be converted into a one-piece. This is to enhance cooling and comfort. Additionally, we understand that there is interest in combining the Army Aircrew Combat Uniform (A2CU) with the CVC to reduce the burden on the supply chain.

Interested parties should respond by 1200 EST on 1 February 2013.
