LEAF Bravo Jacket

April 5th, 2012

The Bravo Jacket from Arc’teryx is the first of their LEAF products I ever owned. It was a Black prototype with these big, pleated shoulder pockets but the style has remained one of my favorite jackets. In addition to being very functional, it not only features a great fit, but it’s stylish as well. If you’re searching for a softshell that doesn’t look “tactical” then the Bravo Jacket is the one for you. Just when I thought it was perfect, Arc’teryx improved it. Not only did they introduce a new color (Wolf), but they’ve also updated the articulation for improved motion under arms and in elbows.

Manufactured from Fortius 3.0™ the Bravo Jacket features an internal chest pocket as well as two large, zippered (with zipper garages) hand pockets on the chest. My experience is that the DWR finish is great at shedding water in all but torrential downpours. The Bravo Jacket is available in sizes Small – XXLarge. And, now there are three color options available; Black, Crocodile and Wolf that help you melt into the background of any situation.

Tactical Floatation Support System

April 5th, 2012

PECI Flotation LLC has introduced new armor compatible form factors of their highly popular Tactical Floatation Support System. Available with Overt (yellow) or Covert (black) bladders, TFSS provides 45 pounds of positive floatation in seawater at 33 feet, 57 pounds at 15 feet and 80 pounds on the surface. Additionally, TFSS has a safety confirmation for both staticline and MFF parachute operations from the US Army Developmental Test Command.

TFSS has been integrated into several armor designs including those by FirstSpear. In fact, FirstSpear is an early adopter. They immediately saw the lifesaving potential and went right to work on adapting their systems to accommodate TFSS. TFSS is not only a great way to provide emergency buoyancy it’s also low weight and volume compared to alternatives. FirstSpear’s integration is seamless and you won’t even know it’s there.

As you can see, Renegade Armor is offering TFSS as a stand alone system or integrated into any one of a variety of armor carriers.

DSM Dyneema Appoint Atkins & Pearce Premium Distribution Partner

April 5th, 2012

DSM Dyneema has appointed Atkins & Pearce, Inc, a US-based supplier to the technical textile industry, as a Premium Distribution Partner for North and Central America and Mexico, effective immediately. Atkins & Pearce will market and distribute ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) fiber manufactured by DSM Dyneema and provide customers in the United States, Canada, Mexico and Central America with application engineering expertise and technical services, including fiber enhancement capabilities. The company will play an active role in developing new markets for UHMWPE fiber and servicing existing markets, including a select number of customers currently supplied by DSM Dyneema. A similar distribution agreement in Europe was announced by DSM Dyneema in 2011.

“This strategic partnership with Atkins & Pearce marks the next step in DSM Dyneema’s efforts to supply and service the North American and Central American textile industries with sustainable and high-performance fiber solutions,” said Jeff Brule, regional manager, Americas, DSM Dyneema. “Customers will benefit from shorter lead times, value-added application development and technical services, and a higher level of collaboration that can help drive business growth.”

“We look forward to working closely with DSM Dyneema to meet the strong and growing demand for its high-performance UHMWPE fiber among customers in this region,” says Jeb Head, owner of Atkins & Pearce. “Our long history of expertise in textile braiding and other fiber technology, our customization capabilities and our proactive approach to service will help current and new customers leverage DSM Dyneema’s products to achieve a clear competitive advantage.”

This announcement is interesting news as the demand for PE products continues to rise. DSM has invested a great deal in increasing their domestic capacity to produce Dyneema. This looks to be a move to diversify their risk as military demand for Dyneema decreases. Although, Dyneema is the critical component in the Army and Marine Corps’ new Enhanced Combat Helmet.

Army Corrects ATK Ammo Award Amount

April 4th, 2012

We received this notice regarding our story earlier this week on the ATK 5.56mm ammo award – CORRECTION: April 3, 2012 — Due to a processing error in the Army’s automated reporting system, the award amount for contract W52P1J-09-D-0027, awarded to Alliant Techsystems Operations, L.L.C., is corrected from $2,541,000,000 to $122,601,783.

That’s a BIG difference. We were wondering how much ammo $2.5 Billion would buy.

Silynx Hosts Congressman Roscoe Bartlett

April 4th, 2012

Last week was a big week for those in the Soldier Systems industry. Not only was there a panel of Congressmen who spoke on the subject organized by the WPRC, but there were also meetings between industry and members of Congress to discuss the importance of individual protection initiatives in light of the current federal budget.

Silynx Communications, Inc also had the privilege of welcoming Congressman Roscoe Bartlett, Chairman of the House Armed Services Subcommittee on Tactical Air and Land Forces, for a tour of its research and development facilities. The meeting included a discussion on ways to ensure the men and women in uniform are equipped with the best tactical communications systems available.

“Congressman Bartlett has a long history as an advocate for the men and women in uniform, and the small businesses that support them,” said Gil Limonchik, CEO, Silynx Communications. “We were honored to host the Congressman for a tour of our R&D facilities, and a discussion on what industry and policymakers can do to best equip and protect American Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines. It is Silynx’s mission to do so to the best of our ability, and we are grateful for the Congressman’s support in our efforts.”

Congressman Bartlett said, “Silynx has developed a critical combat capability to provide our Special Operations Forces with a state of the art modification of their radios so that they will maintain audio operational awareness as well as protection for their hearing from potential damage. I am hopeful that this protection can be rapidly extended to all of our military during deployment as well as training. This would be important even if hearing loss was not among the most common injury our troops have been experiencing. Standard issue ear protection is not sufficient.”

Silynx’s combat-proven C4OPS and Micro C4OPS have been widely used in the past 3 years and adopted by US Special Operations Forces (US SOF), NATO Special Forces, FBI SWAT, and the US Army Rapid Fielding Initiative.
