Soldier Worn Integrated Power Equipment System

Thursday, September 23rd, 2010

Electric Fuel Battery has developed the Soldier Worn Integrated Power Equipment System (SWIPES) which has caught the interest of the US Army’s Research Development Engineering Command. SWIPES provides Soldier worn Communications and Electronic devices a “trickle charge” from a Zinc-Air battery (provided with each SWIPES), which keeps the equipment’s charge consistently above 80%.

The SWIPES system uses a Hub and wiring system which is routed through the Soldier’s gear to its source (radio, DAGR or other application). The Hub is the brains of the system and automatically allows the correct amperage and voltage access to each application, thus taking the burden off of the Soldier. The Soldier simply drops his radio into the Multicam charging station and the Hub takes over the recharging responsibilities.

Each SWIPES Hub charges up to four devices and comes with:
– Two recharging stations. Currently the MBITR/JEM radio, the Motorola XTS Series radios and the FALCON 152 radio is supported.
– One DAGR recharging cord.
– One Zinc-Air BA-8140S battery with a Multicam carrying pouch.
– One Conformal 8140 battery to be worn in your rear body armor pouch.
– One extra wire is open and available on the SWIPES wiring harness for a future application.

Blackheart International is the sole distributor of the SWIPES system. And don’t forget, Blackheart will be available to support end of year purchases until 2400 on September 29th and 30th. In addition to the website, you can also call them at (304) 457-1280, or (877) 244-8166.

The upcoming movie “RED” starring Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman and John Malkovich features Blackheart International’s PKM accessories including the PKM soft ammo bags, PKM tri-rail fore-end, canted vertical fore-grip, and PKM folding-stock.

The attached image is from one of the recently released movie trailers. The weapon in the background (the one with that has the large muzzle flash) is the PKM with their accessories on it. It looks like they cut the front sight tower off of the barrel.

RPG-7 Gunner Team Accessory Kit

Monday, May 24th, 2010

We know some of our readers are rolling with RPGs and when we saw the new RPG-7 Gunner Team Accessory Kit from Blackheart International we knew we had to put the word out even though chances are good those who needed to know already did. Blackheart specializes in foreign weapons and they have gone all out to develop several products for the RPG-7 crew.

The kit combines BHI’s RPG Gunner Backpack, RPG Assistant Gunner Backpack, and RPG Rocket Quiver which we have covered before with the RPG-7 Dust Cover, Adjustable Sling, Launcher/Optics Padded Cary Case, their ingenious Boresight Device, and Four-Piece Cleaning Kit. They have also added their excellent RPG-7 Practical Usage Guide to the mix. BHI’s weapons manuals are the best we have seen and hold a special place in our reference library. All in all, it’s pretty much everything you need except the launcher and rockets.

To order the complete kit or any of the other RPG accessories visit www.bhigear.com.

BHI Mini Handheld SATCOM Antenna

Sunday, May 9th, 2010

If you are a radio operator you will take one look at this baby and say to yourself, “ah-ha, I can see what they did there.” Blackheart International’s new SATCOM antenna offers three four deployment options in one antenna. It comes with a sturdy, compact tripod base making it the steadiest mini SATCOM tripod available, a magnetic-mount base which is ideal for mounting atop stationary vehicles or on surfaces too small to permit the use of a tripod, and an AR-15 pistol grip for quick satellite acquisition. Additionally, a ground spike is stowed inside the magnetic mount base, giving it one more method of deployment. Finally, the antenna comes with a specially designed holster so the antenna can be worn by the operator and swiftly deployed.

Weighing only 1.1 pounds, the dual quad radials collapse and fold alongside the collapsible boom to fit into a water-resistant MOLLE compatible carrying pouch. The antenna is treated to a dull black anodized finish to reduce glare and protect the metal against weatherization. The antenna is also available in Tan by special order.

Blackheart International will be exhibiting the new antenna along with numerous other products at SpecOps Warfighter Expo West held this week at Fort Lewis, Washington.

New RPG Backpacks from BHI

Saturday, February 27th, 2010

Go anywhere in the developing world and you are going to run across the RPG-7 or one of its clones. Up until now, if you needed to schlep its rockets around you were stuck with a rather spartan and often poorly made backpack. Notice I said, “Up until now” because Blackheart International has just released three new backpacks designed specifically for RPG ammo. These days, when I think about Soviet bloc weapons I think about Blackheart. They have really gone all out to develop effective training materials as well as identify accessories for small arms. Now that they have turned their attention to the RPG-7 you can carry it with ease. The packs all take their basic design from the issue items but let’s face it. The launchers themselves aren’t the paragon of manufacturing excellence and the backpacks were almost an afterthought. On the other hand, the new BHI packs will stay secured and not soak up water like a sponge as the older “issue” packs are known to do. You can see the three models in the photo below.

RPG Rocket Quiver This pack will hold two fully assembled rockets complete with attached boosters and the flap secured!

RPG Gunner Backpack This pack has four compartments that will hold two rocket main bodies and two separate boosters.

RPG Assistant Gunner Backpack This version holds three rocket main bodies and three boosters.

BHI RPG Packs

Internal configurations vary but regardless of pack model rockets and boosters are secure via a tri-fold flap system and the outer closure relies on the dependable, yet simple staple fastener closure used by the Spanish Army for for over twenty years. A modernized version of the non-mechanical closure used on the US M1956 ammo pouch, you simply pull the tab and it comes open. Additionally, an oil bottle/spare parts pouch is found inside the top flap. In addition to padded shoulder straps the packs all feature sternum and waist belts to help stabilize the load while moving rapidly under fire. They are available in Black, OD Green, Coyote and UCP.
