GLOCK ID Open to All
Wednesday, March 13th, 2013Already boasting are more than 10,000 active members, GLOCK’s online community is now open to the public. GLOCK ID promotes participation through interaction with other GLOCK enthusiasts. This leads to earning points, which ultimately lead to GLOCK rewards. The rank and reward structure encourages competition and engagement. By participating in various activities (watching a training video, answering fellow members’ questions, logging time at the range, etc.), members of GLOCK ID can earn patches. Those patches translate into points, which then designate a member’s rank within the community. Finally, those rank levels determine tangible rewards from GLOCK.
GLOCK ID offers members several key components:
– a virtual gun safe to keep track of range time, cleaning dates and more;
– training lessons;
– a community Q&A for peer discussion;

There’s Still Time to Pre-Register for GLOCK ID
Wednesday, February 6th, 2013Just as SHOT Show opened, GLOCK launched pre-registration for their Online Community, GLOCK ID. Their initial goal was 10,000 members and having already exceeded that number, they’ve extended this pre-registration offer to 20,000.
“GLOCK ID pre-registration popularity has shown our fans are eager for more dialogue with each other and with GLOCK,” explained Josh Dorsey, GLOCK Vice President. “Expanding the pool of pre-registrants to 20,000 is an exciting step in the path to the launch date in just a few short weeks. Those who have pre-registered will have exclusive early access to the community, before it’s opened to the general public at a later date.”

My Impression of the New GLOCK 30S
Tuesday, January 15th, 2013I had an opportunity to shoot the new GLOCK 30S today. The subcompact .45 was designed as a backup gun for LEOs carrying G21 and G21SF sidearms. The idea is that it chambers the same round and can use the longer spare magazines if needed. The G30S uses a 10 round dual stack magazine so you can also run one in the chamber for a total of 11 rounds. Once again, the plus side is that it will accept the G21’s 13 round magazines. It incorporates the SF body of the G30 along with a slim slide of the G36. As you know, the G36 uses a special single stack magazine so it isn’t compatible with its bigger brothers.
However, the G30S remains a stubby, fat dual stack pistol. Even the SF variants of GLOCK pistols aren’t exactly thin. It’s great for what use as a backup but I don’t look at it as a primary weapon due to its size. For example, in spite of its subcompact size, GLOCK has adopted a familiar work around. In order to accommodate all three fingers on the pistol grip G30S magazines feature an extension. Then, you’ve got the shorter barrel and associated sight radius. It’s a niche weapon for a niche application and I’m glad they made it for those needing a primary sidearm compatible backup piece. It’s really designed to be paired with a G21(SF). It’s just not something I would expect everyone to go out and purchase for EDC.
