PACE Lid Kickstarter Reboot

Last month, we told you about the crowdfunding project, PACE Lid by designer Chris Way. Before the project was completed, Chris found an investor to help defray the costs of the mold so he relaunched on Kickstarter.

I still like the project and have once again backed it. PACE stands for Primary, Alternate, Contingency and Emergency. That’s exactly what this patent pending lid, for wide mouth Nalgene, MSR, and Klean Canteen bottles, is designed for. It’s a storage option for a wide variety of items including first-aid, survival and spare keys.

The 6-Color And Night Desert Uniform Trials

This photo, from the ‘Desert Lab’ article in the May 1976 issue of ‘SOLDIERS’ magazine depicts Mr William Wright wearing the 6-Color Desert Camouflage uniform. He was the head of the Clothing Equipment and Materials Engineering Laboratory at Natick and can be seen talking to a member of the 3rd ACR at Fort Bliss, Texas during the camouflage evaluation. The Soldier is wearing the Parka in the Night Desert Pattern which was optimized to confuse night vision systems. It was paired with an over trouser. The idea was that the items could be worn when the temperatures dropped during the night.

The 6-Color Pattern was optimized for use in the American Southwest and was replaced during Operation Desert Storm by the 3-Color Desert Pattern. During the test, members of the ‘Brave Rifles’ also tried out prototype Meals, Ready-to-Eat.

Jon Hoerauf Announced As General Manager At Arc’teryx

Jon Hoerauf, who joined Arc’teryx in 2012, will become General Manager of Arc’teryx, reporting directly to Heikki Takala, CEO of AMER Sports and replacing Vncent Wauters, who has resigned after four years as President and General Manager.

The 41-year-old Hoerauf came to Ar’teryx after 13 years at The North Face. Since moving the Arc’teryx, they’ve launched footwear and avalanche safety products as well as down garments and a major update to the venerable Alpha SV. To make these things happen, Horeauf oversaw improvements at the headquarters and manufacturing facility in North Vancouver, BC as well as brand retail shops.

“The Pentagon Wars”

“The Pentagon Wars” has long been a comedic look at how a military acquistion program can go sideways. Ultimately, the Bradley Fighting Vehicle turned put to be critical to our Army’s success but it was initially intended as an upgraded M-113.

It’s MultiTarnDruck for the Bundeswehr

The German Army has announced two new camouflage patterns for limited use. First, is the MultiTarnDruck which translates to Multi Camouflage Pattern. It’s a transitional pattern and will most likely supplant the German military’s limited use of MultiCam. Interestingly, the German Government has taken steps to protect the patterns in much the same manner as the USMC protects MARPAT.

Next up is SchneeTarmDruck or Snow Camo Pattern. In this photo, the new pattern can be seen atop the current pattern. These should start rolling into service once the German government provides industry with the specifications to print the patterns.
