Badass of the Week

Thursday, December 10th, 2009

Badass of the Week Author Ben Thompson recently released the aptly named “Badass: A Relentless Onslaught of the Toughest Warlords, Vikings, Samurai, Pirates, Gunfighters, and Military Commanders to Ever Live“. The website that the book is based on is updated every Friday and Thompson uses it to profile the toughest guys in history. One of his most recent posts was about Lewis Millett, Retired Army Colonel, three war veteran, Medal of Honor recipient, and general badass. His Medal of Honor was for leading a bayonet charge during the Korean war. Unfortunately, Col Millett passed away November 14th.

eVent by Any Other Name

Wednesday, December 9th, 2009

Apparently GE has decided to revise their branding strategy for eVent fabrics. No longer will they market the eVent brand but rather continue development of the technology and license the fabric to customers allowing them to build their own brands. This means that a lot more manufacturers will be using the eVent technology just under a variety of private label brands.

03 Modular Split Front Chest Harness

Tuesday, December 8th, 2009

The 03 Modular Split Front Chest Harness was developed by serving Law Enforcement Officer Jeff Carpenter in order to satisfy his needs for a tailored load carrying solution. He prefers a two piece design but felt that most two piece chest rigs were either too large and/or too cumbersome for his needs. Additionally, many available designs are geared toward military users while he participates in a great deal of tactical training in addition to his LE duties.

03 Modular Split Front Chest Harness

Specifically, he wanted a two piece chest rig design that was:
-Modular
-Versatile
-Light Weight
-Low Profile
-Well balanced
-Quick and easy to put on
-A design that would not interfere with the gear that he would be wearing no matter if he was wearing a suit, Patrol uniform, plain clothes, or SWAT uniform

The design went through an evolutionary period and finally ended up at Bravo Company with manufacture by our good friends at Blue Force Gear. This Chest Rig is exclusive to Bravo Company and cannot be purchased through BFG.

While it’s a fairly simple affair, the Chest Rig offer a lot of capability and holds four 30 round AR-style magazines internally. Additionally, the hydration carrier is removable and there are 12 channels of PALS webbing on the front of the rig for modularity. The padded shoulder straps attach to the rig via the innovative Adjustable Load Bearing Strap System developed by Stephen Hilliard at BFG.

You can read about the entire development process here. The author goes into great detail and explains why he made the decisions he did. It is a great case study in the evolution of a load carrying solution.

The 03 Modular Split Front Chest Harness is available in MultiCam, Coyote Brown, and Black and is Made in the USA with top quality materials including 500D Cordura. To order visit www.BravoCompanyUSA.com.

So You Always Wanted a 416 But Couldn’t Afford One?

Tuesday, December 8th, 2009

It seems that the Halcyon Company, responsible for the production of “Terminator Salvation” are going through some financial woes. They are selling EVERYTHING associated with the movie and canceled TV series, including an “H&K 416”. I put this in quotes because it is a prop and not a functioning firearm. What kills me is the pricetag; $3500. For that kind of scratch you could buy the real thing.

Terminator 416 Prop

It comes complete with fake rubber C-more site, TangoDown Battle Grip and 416 upper. If one of you has $3500 burning a whole in your pocket, feel free to purchase it here. Of course, there’s always the “Name Your Price” button. For the rest of you, there might be a good deal to be had on Moon Bloodgood’s sports bra.

Camo Form Tape from McNett Corp

Monday, December 7th, 2009

This article was published over a year ago but serves as an excellent option of those that want to camouflage their weapon without painting. Camo Form® tape has been included in the Ghillie Suit Accessory Kit for many years and offers a variety of patterns to match any terrain.

Technically it’s Camo Form® Self -Cling Camouflage, but most everyone just refers to it as Camo Form Tape. Whatever you call it, it works. As you can see in the depiction below, the Camo Form® is very effective at visually camouflaging your equipment. What you can’t show in a picture is that it also improves noise discipline by cushioning equipment. It also protects the finish and function of gear.

One roll will take care of most of an individual’s requirements (2″ wide x 144″ (4 yds) long). Camo Form is self-clinging and not affected by moisture. What’s more, it gives smooth items a little grip so that they don’t slide.

McNett Camo Form®

Available in Mossy Oak® New Break Up®, Mossy Oak® New Shadowgrass®, Mossy Oak® Obsession®, Mossy Oak® Brush®, Universal Camouflage, Digital Woodland, Digital Desert, 3-Color Desert, Woodland, Snow & more.

To order visit McNett.
